Well-Actually War Trall BainIhrno
Back in 2004, a contest was organized where a 'restriction' was put on scenario design, challenging the designer to work around those restrictions. I may amend one of the rules so that designers can pick from a list, so not every scenario turns into "minimalism" The contest would be open to both BoA and BoE. Since I'm not too familiar with BoA Programming, I'm not sure if "no scripts" would really work in BoA. Some examples would be: -No Towns -No Text -No Special Nodes (except for "End Scenario") -No Monsters -No Items etc. More info about how this was run here (No outdoors wouldn't count as that's been done so many times now). If there's enough interest to get this going, I may enter a BoE scenario myself.
Well-Actually War Trall Ishad Nha
No scripts roughly translates into No special nodes in Exile terms.
Easygoing Eyebeast Enraged Slith
Blades of Avernum has enough restrictions as is without adding more, in my opinion. I'd rather not make designing a scenario more frustrating than it already is.
Magnificent Ornk Kelandon
My first thought was that I never wanted to revisit the Shark contest. My second thought was that two of my favorite BoE scenarios of the later era, Hunted! and SPS, were good Shark scenarios that probably never would've been made without the contest. Eh. Easygoing Eyebeast Dintiradan
The Randomised Scenario Contest was somewhat inspired by the Don't Fix the Shark contest, in that restrictions were supposed to breed creativity. Did it work? That's debatable. Seven people completed, which, uh, actually isn't a bad turnout for BoA. As a side effect of the registration system, the contest showed that people are still interested in making scenarios; they just don't complete them. As for another Don't Fix the Shark contest... eh, the Warriors' Grove contest was probably the simplest possible entry point for new designers, and I don't remember it doing that well. Easygoing Eyebeast Enraged Slith
The difference between the two is that the Shark contest focused on restricting elements of design while the Randomized scenario contest focused on giving designers a jumping off point and the challenge to fit each random element into a scenario.
