SapientCrow
I played Avernum now I am playing Avadon and one thing has me totally perplexed. Why is there no resting to recover health /vitality and why can I not equip scarabs and do other stuff beyond the walls of Avadon. Is this a engine path/limitation or a conscious design decision? I am sure you old timers here have a good answer so please inform me... thanks
Lilith
In order to make vitality management a meaningful part of the game, you can't just rest wherever you like. You can, however, restore the party's vitality by touching the portal back to Avadon without going through. Also, health will regenerate on its own outside of combat. Likewise, scarabs can't be swapped in and out at will in order to make you think about which ones you want to use on which characters for a particular quest, rather than just trading the best ones around between characters as you want to use them. SapientCrow
The thing that does not make sense is so far the game seems incredibly easy even on hard which is why it confused me. Do you know if the game gets progressively more challenging. SO far the storyline and story telling of this world draws me in just like Avernum did but the overall mechanics can be frustrating at times. Avadon isn't a particularly difficult game by Spiderweb standards, especially if you build your characters in a way that optimises for survival, but it does get harder toward the end. There are a couple of optional boss fights in particular that can be quite difficult.
Randomizer
Jeff makes the beginning easier so as not to discourage customers before they get addicted. Now when you do the next major quest area and start getting poisoned ....
Earth
and when they face Zhossa 1st time or enemies before Zhossa they are either too addicted and continue to play or will quit.
