Fledgling Fyora doomyoshi
I notice the difference in price here is humongous (45 dollars for the trilogy from SW store compared to 9 dollars from steam). Is something different about the versions? Does steam require a membership or something. I played Exile back in the day and am glad to here that games are still being made in the series. Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
There are a few factors involved, but the primary reason for the different pricing scheme on Steam is simply that Steam is a different market whose customers have different expectations than the people who have traditionally visited Spiderweb's website. Fledgling Fyora MechaTofuPirate
That's some pretty lousy reasoning. Why not allow loyal fans to buy the game for the lower price like everyone else can on Steam? I'd like to buy it from here to support the developer but it costs so much more. Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Those are also older games. You are paying less to get it later. Plus you don't get fast service when there are technical problems. I guess someday Jeff will revise his prices here to reflect lower prices elsewhere. Tenderfoot Thahd whitknight26
Avadon is only 10 bucks on steam...and not an older game. You're a helluva a contributor to multiple communities - Why would you even attempt to say something like this? Not, trying to call you out..but let's be reasonable here, you have no idea why steam or Jeff for that matter - have the prices the way they are on the platform versus the site. Save for the fact on the site here it specifically still says CD.

Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
A6 is late 2009 or early 2010. The really basic explanation for the different prices is that Jeff can get away with it and get more money by selling for more here. Buying from Spiderweb gets you earlier access, and gives more money directly to the developer as a kind of donation, if you want to think of it that way. Ultimately, Jeff isn't at all coy about having his games be cheaper on Steam. Anyone who wants to buy cheaper knows where to do it, so it's not as though we're being bilked. —Alorael, who suspects Jeff would change his pricing scheme eventually if it didn't work. Granted, it took years and a lot of stubbornness for him to reduce his prices and try out Steam, but he did it. Maybe prices will eventually drop more here as well. A good way of checking is to look at the Announcements Forum of this website; as Alorael said, Avernum 6 was released for Mac in November 2009 and February 2010.
