bug with mindtaker quest( possible spoilers)

So I have a strange bug, I'm at the part where you fight the ghost that you can't hurt, and I think I've figured out what to do to properly kill him, except he does it himself. Every time I enter the fight he does a leap that goes nowhere, then proceeds to stand immobile. If at any point I hit him he takes roughly 500 damage and instadies, no loot, no exp, no Natalie cutscene talking about the next part. I can't prevent him from doing the leap, and it breaks him every time. This is on a android tablet if that is important.

Any help?

Ive been experiencing very similar problems but with a different quest.

It usually involves an NPC who gets stuck after a leap and then either stands still doing nothing' for several turns and then get on hit killed or just randomly despawns.

I emailed the developers and they think it is due to a corrupted game file and suggested reinstalling the game.

I was able to back up my saves and reinstall but currently still experiencing the problem.

This sounds like one of the Shadowwalker abilities, specifically Cunning Decoy. The real Shadowwalker leaps away, leaving a fake in his place. I found this to be a bit buggy in the Mac version too, but not game-breaking. Could this account for what you're seeing, Mitcian? I don't think it explains Jt's problem, since (s)he doesn't mention the shade reappearing.

I highly doubt it. I have started eexperiencing similar problems with other NPCs in the ggame usually when they are somehow involved in a quest and combat. They perform an ability then no longer move before despawning after a few turns or suddenly getting one hit killed from full health. After that I'm usually stuck on the quest.

I registered just to reply to this topic, but I have encountered bugs twice now with NPCs using Cunning Decoy and glitching out.

The first instance was chasing Zhossa Mindtaker. I get to the bottom of the stairs, and the shade appears, along with the shielding spirits. I've tried attacking the shielding spirits with 2 characters, using one to keep the shade occupied, but eventually the shade uses Cunning Decoy, and can be killed in one hit (before I can take out the shielding spirits). I kill the spirits and the guardians, combat ends, and nothing happens. If I leave the building, and re-enter the zone (select it again on the world map, I can go all the way to the bottom and the encounter will start all over again, which leads me to believe that it was never completed successfully.

Eventually I gave up and started another quest, which is where I encountered the second bug with NPCs and Cunning Decoy.

In the Bandit Woods, after speaking to Monitor Shigaz and starting the hunter, during the encounter with the woodsmen, Shigaz uses Cunning Decoy. I finish combat and he doesn't reappear. If I leave the zone and return, Monitor Shigaz is waiting at the campsite where you met the first time. This time, we go hunting again. I get to where the woodsmen are and he remarks there is nothing there and moves on. I get to the point where I have to go on alone, with Monitor Shigaz (trying to keep spoilers to a minimum here), but during the first combat encounter, Shigaz uses Cunning Decoy again, and disappears. I finish combat by myself, and he doesn't reappear. But now I'm trapped and can't leave, with closed gates, and a runed stairway with a phantom padlock.

This is the Android version 1.06 on a Xoom Wi-Fi with ICS 4.0.4 (un-rooted) . I would reinstall, but I cannot find my save games to backup, and would really hate to lose my progress.

I do have save games from before the initial encounter with the shade, as well as before the Bandit Woods, but I find it very suspect that two quests now are unfinish-able because of two different NPCs using the exact same ability.

Any idea how long they think it will take? I'm now stuck on another quest with the same issue, and it's a big one I can't really skip this time.

I'm very willing to try out test versions if that would help. :-). (Or send saved games if I can root my device, etc.)

Just an update on my part.

I have reinstalled the game several times, even done a complete factory reset of my transformer and started a new game.

The issue is still present for me on both my original saves and the new game.

Would really appreciate a fix for this as i can't get any further now.

This is the email that I got back from them today:

Quote:

Thank you for purchasing Avadon: The Black Fortress. We are aware of the Cunning Decoy bug and are currently working to fix it. We're testing a version of Avadon now that contains the fixes we've been working on. We hope to release this version by the end of the week. We'll also update the forums when it's live.

I just got this from Spider support:

Quote:
Thank you for purchasing the Humble Bundle. This is a known issue with Avadon: The Black Fortress where the Cunning Decoy skill used by Shunacha's Shade and other boss NPCs causes the game to enter an unstable state. We have released a fix for the Google Play version and will soon also release it for the Humble Bundle. Please make sure you have the Humble Bundle Android app installed so that you are notified when the update is released. It should be released in the next few weeks.

Note that the fix will not work retroactively - you'll need to load a game which was saved before encountering the bug once you have the update.

Thank you for your patience!

I have to say I am a little disappointed that it wont be retroactive. I'll be losing out on the quest!

It is a bug. This happened to one of the SpidWeb forum member not recently, maybe a few weeks ago. Is it on android? If yes, then it is a bug and Jeff might be remaking it soon...

Hello everyone,

Thanks very much for your patience in waiting for this bug to be fixed. The update is out now for the Humble Bundle version, so please re-download the Avadon: The Black Fortress APK from your Humble Bundle download page or use the Humble Bundle Android app. We appreciate everyone who emailed in to give us more information about this bug.

The fix is not retroactive, so once you update you'll need to load a save file from before you encountered any of the bugged NPCs in order to apply the fix. Thanks again and keep enjoying the game!
