The folder you're referring to just contains the shortcuts of the game and not any actual game data (try disabling start menu shortcuts in the installer, if there's such an option).

If these suggestions weren't enough, tell us which drive & folder you were trying to install to.

already tried that...it doesn't go past trying to create shortcuts in the start menu

there is no such option and i think the explanation in the original post describes your second suggestion...

I ended up having to create special permissions on the Start Menu folder by creating a group called Everyone and giving it full access...it finally installed...after being frustrated as all get out and sleeping on it i figured it out....thank you tech support

if anyone else comes across this problem send me a message and i'll walk you through it

You're not supposed to install to the ProgramData folder, but to Program Files or (for 32-bit programs) "Program Files (x86)." However, Win7 is a bit finicky when you install games to those two directories, so it's better to do what was suggested and create a folder specifically for games in the root directory.

Odd... I've been doing that for years, and it works just fine for me; I installed Avadon in "C:\Game Files\Avadon," and the installer and game ran perfectly.

I also have Win7 64-bit.

well the main problem is that the installer doesn't have those options...you can change the install directory, but it still tries to install shortcuts into the start menu, which is the default option for any installer in windows.

So yeah, most of the time with most any regular installer, you have the option to add start menu and desktop shortcuts, this one does not give you the choice, it just goes right ahead and attempts it...and since it doesn't have the proper permissions to install it comes up with that error and then stops installing and my only option was to reverse the installation and try again and again...

and no matter what solution you think works...the only one that did work was creating special group permissions in the Start Menu folder for Everyone, i do not know why i had to go all back asswards to do this...but it worked and the game is awesome
