Michel austin
Hi All Just wanted to Stop in to say hi and also to introduce myself here! The Boards look extremely interesting and I can’t wait to become a member of the community! Besides, I would like to suggest the moderators and the administrators of this site that there should be a place for every new member for their introduction. Majority of the people prefer to give their introduction before they could start up. So if my suggestion is logical and if it does make any sense then an introduction thread should be started here. Thanks, Michel
Actaeon
Howdy, Michel. Welcome to Spiderweb and leave your sanity at the door. I'm not a mod, so I can't speak to your suggestion. Most people just introduce themselves alongside whatever post encouraged them to sign up in the first place, but I suppose there's nothing in the CoC that prevents the other. The Mystic
And again, welcome to Spiderweb Software. Leave your sanity at the door. Things like this will make a lot more sense that way.
nikki.
psst, guys, michael austin was a spambot before the banhammer fell. see?
Erebus the Black
I find this to be quite funny in an absurd way. I mean the bot introduced itself, criticized the forum for not having an introduction thread and at the same minute started publicizing dental work. This is ingenious

MMXPERT-seraph of thermodynamics
Maybe he is not a bot. Perhaps he just wanted to mess with us and made some crap about dental work for a laugh...

We're 90% certain it's a bot, but we're continuing to monitor its behaviour for more evidence before we act. So you can rest easy: believe it or not, we are not in fact tyrants who ban at the drop of a hat.
MMXPERT-seraph of thermodynamics
OK, you might wonder why I'm acting like this... Well about two years ago, I was horrible, I spammed, I trolled, I used incorrect grammar, posted nonsensical things... and I got banned from a good site forever. And look at me now, I'm none of those things anymore. And that is why I'm against banning people without giving them a chance to redeem themselves for the wrong/s they did on a site. Lilith
With respect, it's not our job to give members a chance to redeem themselves. It's our job to maintain appropriate community standards for a video game company's forum. No more, no less. If someone's behaviour is harming the community and scaring customers away, then we have to do something about it.
BMA
I don't think he's a bot. He didn't put in links (major giveaway!!!) or even drop names in that dental treatise of his. We're probably hurting the poor chap's feelings. First post and all, with a suggestion included, and all we do is question his originality by hurling accusations at his face. So he likes to write dental treatises-great-we tell him politely that we are RPG maniacs and are not exactly as interested in them as he seems to think, and then suggest (diplomatically) that he is *perhaps* in the wrong forum and then, to be even more helpful, we find an online dental community and put him into it. Lilith
If he's a real person, he can speak up for himself. Until then, that's the end of this line of discussion.
The Mystic
All I'll say is that if it is a spambot, it's one of the best I've seen. And now, having said that, I will leave this topic and allow it to die.
Emmisary of Immanence
I'll point out that it's largely irrelevant to us whether the spammer is a bot or a human. Spammers are unwanted. Someone who shows up and spams off the bad is immediately and forcefully unwanted. —Alorael, who can see a bot making that first thread. It's general. It'll fit in on most boards, because even ones that do have a place for introductions will probably just get a rash of people linking to that board or subforum. Randomizer
We used to have one that Arancaytar (Polaran) created to post the monthly member posting numbers. There are also rumors that Alorael and Arancaytar are both bots.
Emmisary of Immanence
Those rumors are obvious lies and slander. —Alorael, who does, however, have some great bargains on a number of products for any interested members. Bargains that he has discovered while using the internet as a normal human being. He was absolutely not built expressly for the promulgation of said really amazingly good deals. Emmisary of Immanence
No death sticks, but I've got a fantastic bridge for sale. Barely used! —Alorael, who seriously will be among the first to welcome the AI overlords when they show up. More seriously, if bots get to the point of making interesting, informative posts, why get rid of them? They'd be outperforming some human members! Just being on-topic isn't good enough, of course; some bots manage that by either being so vague that they're on every topic or by plagiarizing earlier posts.
