Garrulous Glaahk Xander77
I killed his wife and smith, descended into the undeground, turned the one winch behind the archer ambush... and I can't seem to find the next area to proceed to. No gates into the central area of the castle (the garden into which the Lord fled) have opened. I can explore Wizard's area, the barracks and the grove, but seem to be stuck for a way to proceed. Unflappable Drayk Ceiling Durkheim
Turning the wheel in the archer ambush area opens the closed portcullis in the dungeon/torture area (the underground area just prior to the archer ambush). Garrulous Glaahk Xander77
Thanks. Don't know how I missed it. Tip on the Belloch fight, while we're here (I'd hate to start a new topic for every thing that stops me in my first playthrough). Everyone's level 30, shadowmaster/shaman/sorceress. Garrulous Glaahk Xander77
Nevermind, figured out how to distribute my potion stash the team and powered through. Is there some secret to hurting the wizards ghost, or are you supposed to just ignore it while you pound on the demon?
Unflappable Drayk Ceiling Durkheim
Just ignore Moritz'Kri. He's invulnerable, and he doesn't actually add that much offensive power compared to Beloch and his other minions. On the other hand, the titan abominations are well worth killing, as they aren't invincible, and have some really nasty attacks.
Garrulous Glaahk Xander77
2 more things. How many rune-covered doors are there? There's the one in Morty's tower (which you're specifically directed to when you get a way to open rune doors), the one below Spiridon's cell in the Avadon dungeons... what else? Dealing with Zephyrine. I can damage the dragon just fine but her sentinels appear to be immune to most of my magical attacks, and keep healing themselves and the dragon. In the end, they just wear me out with knocbacks, stunlocks and brutal meelee attacks, while I can't really damage them.
Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
Yeah, you need to go after the sentinels with physical attacks. It takes a while. There's a runed door in Redbeard's tower, and one in the drake's lair in the Beraza Pits. There might have been one below Ogrhym'Tor, too. Concentrate damage on one sentinel at a time until they are all gone and there won't be anymore healing for them. Physical and fire damages them. Unflappable Drayk Ceiling Durkheim
There is one below Oghrym'Tor. It's in the area you chase Moritz'Kri through after Carsta'Arl betrays him to you.
Garrulous Glaahk Xander77
Can you kill the Wayfarer when you meet him near the hidden path Gavin shows you? If not, what's the point of the fight? Can you avoid fighting Melisande? I've done all her quests (they culminate with the Drake egg, right?) and tried all the conversation options )
Articulate Vlish Demseinwetter
I believe that whatever you say doesn't matter much, I've tried a few dialogue options and I think that they all ended in her trying to bash your head in.
Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
And yes, you can kill the Wayfarer.
Garrulous Glaahk Xander77
Huh. I've tried 3 times now, and he just teleports away, even when it's not his turn to act.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
The Wayfarer depends upon the difficulty and how much damage per attack you can do. The possibility is scripted into the game.
Garrulous Glaahk Xander77
What are the optional battles? Dragon, Incarnus, Belloch... anything else? (besides Redbeard)
Garrulous Glaahk Xander77
"If you try to kill the king". Why Miranda, I wouldn't peg you as a fan. Edit - I guess I can't kill her either? In this case my PC is all alone, and she teleports away the moment she takes "a solid blow".
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Other optional battles are Initiate Helma in Moritz'Kri's Tower, Angevine, killing most of your companions enemies, Duke Gryfyn, the Bandit that the Taowans want killed. Garrulous Glaahk Xander77
I meant more like optional super-combat guys.
Ineffable Wingbolt Superba
You can spare or fight a bandit in Sevilin's quest, and another one in Jenell quest (the one who wish to flee and leave Shaman Theresa). I wish in Avadon II one could burn down the trading post just outside Vebeaux and its greedy new owner.
Unflappable Drayk Ceiling Durkheim
As far as optional super-combat goes, it's pretty much just Beloch, Zephyrine, and Redbeard. Incarnus is a bit of a pushover compared to those three, even at substantially lower level. To be fair, a lot of the aforementioned optional fights are noticeably harder than the others of their level. Helma especially I find harder than Moritz'Kri, though the latter isn't that hard compared to some of the other boss enemies. @Superba: it's not like Charon was any better, really. They're both kind of jerks.
Ineffable Wingbolt Superba
@FnordCola: but have you seen the prices? Charon was much cheaper. That woman could play a main role in Jaws (not the eaten girl).
Garrulous Glaahk Xander77
Two last things: Can I ever get into the other areas of the top floor of Redbeard's tower? Any way I can drink the Keeper water and survive? I assumed that's what would happen after I've killed Redbeard... but, nope.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Some areas are available for the ending. No luck with the Keeper's water basin. Maybe in Avadon 2?
