Help (potential spoilers)

I'm now at the point of fighting "Carl" in the Hunt the Lord quest. I've beaten everyone else in the castle but him and seem to be unable to. Am I trying this too early in the game, or is there some strategy that I'm not using? (I've got it on normal, btw.)

He deals out lots of damage so having a blademaster with parry helps or lots of health and armor to survive. I found it's area attack with something like a wand of corruption, an area missile attack or area spell and then pile on the damage.

Try using a speed scroll before triggering the fight with him. That way you should be able to almost kill him before anything nasty happens. This worked for me with a blademaster, shaman, and sorceress.
