SYNERGIZER LIST: Avadon Items List

You knew it was coming—the obligatory Synergy/Randomizer items list for Avadon. And, as usual, it contains a diversity of useful information beyond just items and locations. Here you will find special items, their stats and locations, as well as lockpicking and trap requirements, secret switch locations, quests and rewards and more. Forging information and some cheat codes are listed at the end.

The base value for most quests is 100xp

Reading books gives 50 xp

Opening locked doors & disarming traps gives ? xp

 

Lockpicking is denoted as follows: "door - 1@L4" means you will need 1 lockpick if you have 4 levels of lockpick skill invested in one of the PCs in your party. If the door is a known quantity of lockpicks exactly, the number ("door - 3") will simply be listed. The amount of skill needed to open a door is basically 1 level of skill = 1 lockpick. Randomizer's "Traps and Locks" list breaks it down exactly how it works.

 

KEEP: arcane scrolls (for a quest), drake skins (for a quest), runestones (for use on anvils)

KEEP your spare PCs all best equipped they can be, including spare scarabs, because you never know when you might be using their services in your party, and even if you never plan to choose them.

It may have only been a temporary cheat at one point during beta-testing to test the usefulness of this bow for magicians. It is a very good bow, indeed. Looks like you'll have to get it the normal way, however. I'm removing that cheat from the list.

If I read this list accurately, there are only 41 lockpicks available in the entire game! Is that true?

 

I guess investing in 4 levels of a lockpick skill is anything but optional!

 

Edit: WHOA, and there's at least 225 lockpicks needed to open all the doors and boxes that have # of picks needed listed here! That's crazy! You REALLY have to economize with lockpicks!

Can't be.

My sorceress has 41 in inventory right now and she's used at least two, maybe three or four. And she's only on the second Kva quest.

Synergy left off some lockpicks near the end of the game and ones that you can purchase. With the skill at 4 for most of the game, there are enough lockpicks to loot every place but one of Zhethron's boxes.

 

Now a singleton blademaster or shaman has to be very conservative with using them.

If my counting is accurate, that means Synergy left off upwards of 180 lockpicks... there is really such a discrepancy? Doesn't seem like him.

It was a decision to keep this topic from burying the board. The original version for the first third of the game was as long as this list.

 

I'll see about adding some back in, but it'll take a while to find the locations in this version.

So, when reading this list, just be aware it leaves out the MAJORITY of lockpicks? Is there anything else that matters that isn't listed (or only partially listed)?

I've left Shima and Sevilin in the clothes they started the game with. I hope that doesn't turn out to be a bad idea.

Depending on what quests you choose to take, there may come a time when you have no choice but to include someone in your party.

 

Edit: You may also find that a group that's been working well for you up to a point is suddenly less effective against certain enemies.

What mostly got left off the list are some potions scrolls, wands, generic weapons and armor, and some lockpicks. After the early part of the game most of these items are only useful to sell or aren't things that you absolutely have to know their locations.

I'll make up a separate list for lockpicks since there is a demand for them. Integrating them into this list would take longer.

I tried to list every single lockpick I encountered, whether it is a found item or one you can buy—and if the latter, I listed the quantity available. If I missed some, Random, please add them into the list. Jeff also alters items during beta testing, and since I haven't gone back and replayed an entire game late into the beta process or after, there are probably a few items I didn't find that are there now.

Or do you mean in one of the zones accessible only in the Dire Wolf Pack or Nightshade quests? I need to be quite specific to list an item - where it is in context of the whole zone.

 

Madrigan, the reason for the bolded text you mentioned is because:

in the end game, if you want to fight Redbeard, you will probably want all four PCs to join you. You want to keep the best gear and extra scarabs for them to use at the end, even if you haven't been using them during the rest of the game.

P.S. If you get one PC's lockpicking skill up to 4 as soon as possible (a small investment), and get the Tinker's Satchel at the appropriate time, even with opening everything of interest, except the extra dragon boxes, I had something like 6-8 lockpicks left over at the end of the game. There are plenty, really, if you keep up with the skill, and make sure to have that skilled PC with you anytime you wish to unlock something.

By which I meant the area accessible in the Dire Wolf quest. But I see that you have it on the lockpick list.

I'm avoiding looking at the items list--I only looked for that one in the context of the discussion that was going on at the time, and because it was fresh in my mind. So I didn't know whether lockpicks were often omitted or not.

Minor detail: Svarl's 2nd quest is not given until AFTER Ogre Raiders. Which is silly, but there it is.

 

Also, you may want to list Zhethron's hoard, because it is possible -- although very tricky -- to steal it. Yes, the hoard he sits on. I just stole it, and let me tell you, I haven't had that much fun stealing from a dragon since Pyrog!

Thanks for this great list! A couple of minor questions:

 

1. I can see where to get the quest for the Titan's War Club, but I'm having trouble finding the club itself and I don't see it anywhere on the list.

 

2. I'm also having trouble locating Orian's Camp from the description on the list... could I be missing something? What does the "cw" stand for?

Slarty, thanks, fixed. "C" does indeed mean center area: "cw," center west, would be the western part of the central area of the zone. If it's in the left third or so of the zone, I'll just call it west: w.

 

Random, can you either insert an exact location description for the War Club, or insert it in a reply, and I will add it?

In Goldcrag, the Soggy Cactus box:

 

"door - 2@L4 - box guarded by merchant"

 

Can actually be stolen from. Go into combat mode, and block the merchant's pathing so that the only way he can go is towards the door. Get him there, possibly shut half the door on him, and just keep on blocking his way (hold down space to wait until he moves) until he patrols outside the room.

 

The only thing of note there is a scroll of speed burst, but better than nuttin'!
