Firecage
Well. Basicly this problem is now with Avernum 4 and the games that game before it(both geneforge and avernum). Basicly I got a new 18 or 19 inch LSD monitor with my new computer. It is actually rather wide. Also my graphics card can go to 1600x900 pixels. And I have to set it to that to make the stuff on the monitor look good, otherwise everything looks ugly. Basicly the earlier games gets streched out off proportion in such a way I can not stand to play the game, since it hurts my eyes a bit. THe newer games, (Geneforge 4 and up) does not have this problem since they are more compatible.
Dikiyoba
You've tried setting the games to not change resolution, right? Dikiyoba.
Firecage
I do not know how to do it with A1-A3. And When I did it with A4. It gave a warnign message which said that A4 can only run in 16t bit and 800x600 pixels.
Dikiyoba
For A1-A3, go to settings and check "Ask at startup whether to change resolution". Then reload the game. Dikiyoba.
Firecage
It works with A1-A3. THankd Yoba. Just bothered by the large black spaces around the play screen. Heh Still, any idea of how to get A4 working right?

Heh The large black spaces are normal, unfortunately. However, for A1-3 (and BoA, for that matter), you can also change the preferences so that the games don't take up the full screen; this will put them in a window next time you start them. For A4, A5, and G1-4, you're pretty much stuck with the black spaces. Originally Posted By: lordofdc Still, any idea of how to get A4 working right? For A4, tell the game not to change the screen resolution at startup; if that doesn't work, change the settings manually before playing. Firecage
Mystic. The problem is if I say that it shouldn't change the resolution, then A4 says that it can only run in 800x600 pixels and 16 bit. And if I let it run like that, then the game looks ugly and hurts my eyes.
Dikiyoba
You might be able to make A4 run without distortion by manually setting your computer to 16 bit without changing the resolution. Dikiyoba.

Also, on the "Game Options" screen, tell the game not to change the resolution. Come to think of it, you're right; after a quick check, that's how it is with Windows too. I only restarted because the games had changed the resolution automatically, and this, as lordofdc mentioned, made everything stretched out and funky. Firecage
Thanks for all the help guys.
The Mystic
No problem; I've encountered this issue before. Both my desktop and my laptop have widescreen monitors, and it's really annoying playing one of the Avernum or Geneforge games when all the characters look like they need to go on a diet. Firecage
Good thing the newer games Jeff made fits better on wide screens.
