Curious Artila Jethro Mithrandier
Zephyr Tempest Order Mage TGM Terror's Martyr Alec X The Club of All Desperance No offense but Spidwed looks like it has finally turned into yet another haven for nerds to roleplay. Easygoing Eyebeast Dintiradan
I remember Zephyr Tempest. He roleplayed, as I recall. I remember Terror's Martyr. He roleplayed, as I recall. I remember Alec. He roleplayed, as I recall. I remember Desperance (oh hey, the boards are down). There were roleplays there, as I recall. Curious Artila Jethro Mithrandier
My point was not that these members were anti-roleplayers, but that these members kept the forums from the state they are currently in.
Easygoing Eyebeast Enraged Slith
I remember them, and I also remember that they participated in a few RPs of their own. Which one of them are you?
Curious Artila Jethro Mithrandier
My Point ( . ) ------------ You how about you stop trying to justify your roleplaying by citing the habits of others and instead let me know how you feel. Well-Actually War Trall Sarachim
I remember some of those. The rest, I still know.
Easygoing Eyebeast Dantius
Roleplaying, eh? I know, I can't stand them either. I suppose it's a good thing that Spiderweb Software is a famed producer of multiple award-winning and critically acclaimed First person shooters and real time strategy games, instead of smalltime indie roleplaying games. That would just be a travesty, wouldn't it?
Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
no but seriously who are you

I'm wracking my brain to remember if anyone with this style had been on the boards in the past year and a half. It seems familiar, but I can't quite place it. Maybe it was on another site? Easygoing Eyebeast Sullust
Best not to dwell on what was, and instead focus on what is... Edit: That's not to say that their presence isn't missed. Hatchling Cockatrice Slawbug
I have just one question. Is the typo in your PDN on purpose? Anyway, yes, I remember that stuff, no, the board's certainly not any nerdier or RPGish than it was then, and no, I am not particularly interested in watching you regurgitate topics so you can have more attention. For a number of reasons, actually, including that technically he shouldn't even be on that list, but mainly because he sucked then, and he sucks now. Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
That isn't exactly a list of Spiderweb's best and brightest. You could makes cases for spam, vitriol, maturation, mysterious disappearance, or high-profile bans, but I'm not seeing those names as signs of Spiderweb being cut down in its prime. —Alorael, who remembers them all. He'd also like to know what TCoA is doing on that list of Polaris is missing.
Well-Actually War Trall Actaeon
I remember all of those save the Club of All. And Polaris. And Shadow Vale. And I'm quite sure that the RPGers cannot be blamed for the decline of this board or any other associated boards. I see no mutual exclusivity there. If there was a demand for discussions like those of yore, there is no reason they could not take place in addition to any other activity. Unless you're Alec, TM, or the like (as a ban rather excuses you from posting), the blame is yours, and mine, and the rest of this community's. If, indeed, you consider there to be a problem at all. It is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, after all. I'm going back outside.

Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
the moderation has definitely clamped down on things that used to be okay to discuss though (eg. political threads)
Well-Actually War Trall Actaeon
He has been in the past, though. For an excuse, I don't think a perma-ban is necessary. I hadn't heard about the crack-down. Guess it makes sense, though. Things used to get pretty heated. What's the word on science and philosophy? That was always provided a nice backbone of only moderately outraged discussion.
Magnificent Ornk Student of Trinity
Some of these guys were cool and smart. Some of them will very possibly go on to great things. I'll give better odds, though, to the ones of them that are currently out there going on to them, and not waxing all sentimental about the onetime message board antics of a handful of bright teenagers with time on their hands. That's not actually an endangered species.

It was more a Jeff-initated crackdown than a mod-initated crackdown, and it's not political topics that are banned, but any extremely heated or potentially offensive topics like abortion (the topic that initated the crack down). Some political threads are still okay and certain science and philosophy threads are off-limits (ie, studies regarding porn). Dikiyoba. Hatchling Cockatrice Slawbug
The only political threads that I can recall getting locked due to political subject matter, rather than due to people resorting to ban-worthy ad hominem attacks (hi, Alec and Infernal! and Ghaldring!), were two about abortion (one locked by Jeff) and one remarkably respectful thread on gay marriage that Jeff locked. But the gay marriage one was from just over 4 years ago, IIRC. I am not including the porn study discussion -- I locked that thread, and I didn't lock it because of the political content. If I'm forgetting something I'm actually interested to hear about it, but I really don't think there has been any clampdown whatsoever. Well-Actually War Trall The Ratt
Maybe we don't get as many crazy teenagers as we used to because there is a much larger and more publicized RPG-type game that is all sucking them in, that also has an atmosphere more condusive to destructive/immature interaction. I'm a crazy teenager, and I assume you're referring to MMOs. The thing is that the teenagers who enjoy destructive/immature interactions probably wouldn't be the kind of crazy teenagers that would hang out here, but be more or less normal teenagers who enjoy destructive/immature interactions. Hatchling Cockatrice Alorael at Large
The SEP doesn't "debate" so much as "dominate" with "lead pipes" and violence. —Alorael, who can recall a number of threads getting locked, but most of them are for turning into rants, going wildly off-topic into the realm of spam, or becoming too stupid to live. Only a handful of topics been banned because of subject rather than content, and all of those have been Jeff's doing or the mods acting on Jeff's directives. There are, however, some gray areas left. How do the boards feel about melonsex topics these days?
