Articulate Vlish Failedassassin
I'm down in this mine, near patrick's tower, and I come upon a hive of rats. I killed the rat queen, but 3 unstable rats managed to hatch. How do I subdue these creatures without a total party kill? I was looking at the damage they were causing in their death-splosion, and it wasn't that high, but they all went off in a chain reaction... Any tips? Seasoned Roamer vstef96
Keep your fighters away and use your mage to blow the rats up from a safe distance.
Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
Alternately you can just run away without killing them, after killing the queen. Come back later to loot the place and they'll be gone. There might be a couple of hive tenders left if you didn't kill them, but they don't explode. Articulate Vlish Failedassassin
Thanks! I did in fact end up running away, so I'm glad to know it's safe to return.

Articulate Vlish Failedassassin
Err what does that mean? The rats are time bombs?
Rotghroth Rhapsody waterplant
When one of them dies it explodes dealing fire damage in a small radius. This can set off a chain reaction that can wipe out your whole party. There are bats in the Western Reaches that do the same thing.
Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
I think Failedassassin was asking about this, being already aware of explosions and chain reactions (see first post): Originally Posted By: Carranzero be quick or be dead!! Kyshakk Koan The Dirty Nephil
Just wait until you come across the Curse Carrying Rats, I think is what they were called, east of Fort Duvno. Accidentally killed 'em all at once and suddenly I'm surrounded by Unstable Rats and unable to move away anywhere... that was ugly. I've had some of the ugliest deaths on this game.. even more so than any of the past ones.
Garrulous Glaahk Serene Tempest
At least the unstable firebats were possible to knock out in 1-2 turns if you played your cards right, allowing you to take out the pack before they closed on you. The unstable rats near Patrick's tower are another story. Summons wouldn't last long enough against them either. I had to resort to letting one of my party members take the hits and then dragging him back to the nearest city gates.
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
i used my 1st fighter to kill those exploding rats which that demon summoned and 2nd fighter used bow on those and spellcasters kept 1st fighter alive and buffed, 1 wrong move and party got surrounded. nasty beasts
