Well-Actually War Trall Ishad Nha Posted January 25, 2010 Share Posted January 25, 2010 I don't know if one exists, but it is easy to create one for yourself. This method will work for any script in any game that has scripts, like any Geneforge, Nethergate: Resurrection, Avernum 4 onwards… Copy the item data from Gforscen.txt into a Word document. Turn on the Show/Hide character button, it is just to the left of your zoom display. Tab stops will now display as arrows. Use Replace All to remove all tabs, type "^t" in the Find what box (omit the quotes), have nothing in the Replace with box. (Here ^t means tab stop. Replace All is a button on the Edit > Replace dialog box.) Now we need to separate what we want (begindefineitem #; and it_name = " " from the other entries. I will put a tab in front of all occurrences of these words, then paste the whole lot into an Excel spreadsheet. In the spreadsheet the stuff we want will be in a column by itself. Use Replace All once again, replace "begindefineitem" with "^tbegindefineitem" and then replace "it_name" with "^tit_name", (omit all quotes). I now copy all of the item data and paste it in the Excel spreadsheet. I selected cell B5 in the spreadsheet then pasted. Now everything is in the range B5 through C2354. I will insert numbers in the column A5 thru A2354, put a 5 in cell A5 then make cell A6 = A5 + 1… To make the sorting work smoothly I will copy all the numbers and paste them as absolute values: choose Edit > Paste Special to bring up the dialog box then choose Values. Paste in column D or whatever, then copy them and paste them back into column A, thus column A is full of numbers not formulas. Go to Data > Sort, Sort by column C then by column A. Then delete the junk, which should start at line 609. Next, sort by column A to get everything back into its proper order. Copy and then Paste back into a Word document. Now, we need to get rid of the paragraph marks that put the "it_name = " entries on separate lines, replace "^pit_name" with "^tit_name", (omit all quotes once again). (Here "^p" means paragraph mark.) Then use Replace All box on the Replace function to get rid of all the junk: begindefineitem, it_name = , colons, quotation marks… To just delete something, have nothing in the Replace with box. Copy and paste back into a spreadsheet, we now have the desired list! Certain names will be blank, looking at Gforscen.txt will show what these names should be. I have actually whipped up the list, it did not take long. But I will need to upload it somewhere. Edit: If there are comments attached to item numbers or names, they will need to be removed. Ishad Nha, for the blank names, keep in mind that script definitions for these games automatically import all data from the previous definition unless it is manually blanked or an import statement appears. I want something simple that anyone can do. Edit: As for writing a program to print out lists of item or creature numbers, this is easy to do. The BoA Editor reads the custom scenario data script for a scenario, if the script exists. This script is about the same level of complexity as a Geneforge script.
