Unplayable Playable Character
Actually, I believe either canisters were a precursor to the Geneforge or vice-versa, so there wouldn't be any of those in your situation either.
Dikiyoba
The canisters came before the geneforge, so they would still exist while the geneforge did not if, say, the research on Sucia Island had been stopped a few months sooner or the geneforge was more complicated to make. Unplayable Playable Character
Yeah, but all the Geneforge is is a big, intricate canister. I'm sure some maniac with enough power, resources, and time on his hands could work up from there. Basically, the geneforge and the canisters are made out of the same gene-warping technology, so IMO one would follow the other. On a completely unrelated note, I remember when I used my first canister back in GF1 and the text was something like: "The agents in the jar begin to alter you" I actually thought there were tiny agents sitting in that jar surrounded by swirly blue stuff. But that's what I get for being ten.
Artemis~
Quote: Basically, the geneforge and the canisters are made out of the same gene-warping technology That's what I think. But the canisters don't do as much as the geneforge (which gives a bunch of different skills and makes you uber-powerful cool) so it's just a lighter version of the geneforge. After all, even though a canister changes ONE skill, it probably could still be classified as a geneforge. Just a mini-geneforge. ~Artemis and mini things. Anything smaller than it's supposed to be is cute. Like those sprite cans that are the size of my fist. And tiny little modle cars. And premature babies. But not canisters. The only difference between the geneforge and canisters is that the original geneforge kills you, while the canisters don't, though they make your personality alter. Firecage
Mmmm....thought the original geneforge turned you into a demi-god.

Hypnotic
The Geneforge is carefully balanced. When you take some of the gunk out, the rest goes nuts and blows up. A maniac may not be so careful to create such a delecate device.

Emmisary of Immanence
Itinerant, sociopathic, and grimy. See also: Avernum. —Alorael, who actually thinks demigodhood may hit its peak in Nethergate. Running around shooting people with excessive crystal wands is fun! But maybe demigodhood should be feyness.
Unplayable Playable Character
Actually those could apply to GF also. I wouldn't think one would worry much about hygiene when they have world domination to worry about. Especially if they glow.
Firecage
Ohhhh....glowy demi-god of mad and crazy destructive shaping power!
Akharri Blaze
And remember, glowy means tasty. [this is not supposed to make sense.]
Tcheedchee
Well, yes, certainly tasty… from the point of view of an unbound one. Harr, Harr!!! M - u - n - c - h !
Firecage
Hey. Give that back. That was my glowy enchanted slippers. Bad unbound. No shaper for you.

Serene Tempest
Realistically, I would expect a crawbug or alpha/beta would be much more efficient in terms of martial prowess for the essence investment and skill requirements. Which would render serviles not worth the essence to craft them, at least as combat creations. It might be interesting if they served more as utility creations, ie. the servile technicians that can temporairly join you in G4 to enhance your mechanics skill. But that would probably complicate game balancing and punish the weak-shaping classes by driving up the difficulty of all the mines, doors and traps in the game. Edit: ...and I overlooked the last two pages of this discussion. Pardon the topic change.
Akharri Blaze
You mean clawbug, don't you. I know this is out of the blue, but where the heck do you get the ability to shape a ornk, and in what game? I have been for so long trying to find odd tricks, glitches, and secrets. If anyone can help, please post or send a private message.
Dikiyoba
There is an ornk canister in every game. G1: Behind an insanely-locked door in the Servile Warren. G2: Behind a locked door in Mountain Base. G3: I assume there's an ornk canister somewhere, but I haven't played the game and so don't know where it is. G4: Kill the oozebeasts in West Poryphra Gate and a secret area with the canister will open up. G5: There are a series of hidden levers in Lost Dera Vault that lead to the canister. Dikiyoba. Triumph
In G3, the Ornk canister is hidden in Khor's Deep; a hidden lever or switch (I don't recall which) opens a hidden room containing the canister. I actually missed it my first couple playthroughs.
Spddin Ignis
Is there? I was unaware of the one in G3.
