Compilation of status changes for Avernum...?

Is there a database or FAQ of some sort that lists the various status changes (both ailments and benefits)? I can't find any sort of list in the game's documentation other than a list of what's out there and pictures (for example, I know that the little skull means "enfeebled" and I know that's obviously something I don't want, but I don't know what exactly it does to that character).

The Blades of Avernum documentation definitely has such a list somewhere (possibly in the editor docs). It should be mostly applicable to the first three Avernum games as well.

The status is list is in the Appendices of the BoA documentation, yes, but it doesn't really explain what any of the statuses do.

I coulda sworn it had specific information on stuff like how much damage acid and poison do.

19 – Enlightened. This unusual status is only used for special encounters. You can have one special encounter that makes the party enlightened, and another encounter that checks to see if they still have this status to, say, open a door or use some other effect.
20 - Terrified
21 - Enfeebled
22 - Regenerating
23 - Nimble Fingers
24 - Featherfall
25 - Flying
26 - Safe Travel
27 - Hovering Feet
28 - Drunk.
29 - Force Cage. Each turn, goes down by the character’s strength, plus 1.
30 - Fleeing. Each turn, goes down by the character’s intelligence, plus 1.

So, you're right about acid/poison, but not some of the more exotic statuses.

This weekend I might try and investigate what the other statuses specifically do to the party.

dumbfounded affects casting abilities (can't cast higher level spells and soon no spells at all).

 

charmed is obvious.

 

enfeebled could be strength reducing.
