Tenderfoot Thahd General Nuance
I have a registered copy of Blades of Avernum on one computer, a newly installed and unregistered version on another computer, and a USB stick. I've tried copying everything imaginable, and nothing seems to work. No file will magically make my game registered. Not BladesofAvernumData.dat, not any of the irunin files. I tried copying over the whole exe file too, then the entire folder with everything in it. Does anyone have any advice how to get my game registered? I already e-mailed Jeff Vogel, but I want to have a way to register my copies myself so I don't have to bother sending an e-mail. It's, uh... too much work. Magnificent Ornk nikki.
"BladesofAvernummData.dat" is the file you want - be sure you're placing it in the "Data" folder, and not just the game folder. Otherwise, I'm stumped...
Easygoing Eyebeast keira
MOve your entire installed BoA onto your flash drive. The registration will come with it. All the pirates shouldn've figured this out already, so I think I'm safe saying it here.

Tenderfoot Thahd General Nuance
Copying the suggested files is disappoint, to say the least. I have a registered copy of the game, and I still considered pirating it. *Sigh*
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
Go to your Library folder for User and look for the Preference folder. Inside is the "Blades of Avernum Prefs" file that contains the registration.
Well-Actually War Trall Niemand
I think he's on Windows, Randomizer. The problem is odd, however, since in that case I think Nikki's answer, which Nuance also referred to in his first post, should have been all that was needed. Easygoing Eyebeast Enraged Slith
What's the OS? I know that BoA behaves weirdly on Vista.
Tenderfoot Thahd General Nuance
I'm on Windows. I noticed when I was installing the game that there is naturally no BladesofAvernumPrefs.dat file in my Data folder. I copied the one from my registered game over to the unregistered game and that didn't help. I tried reinstalling, and saw the same thing: there was no BladesofAvernumPrefs.dat file, even after I adjusted my preferences. But Vogel sent me a new registration code, so I'm capable of running it now. And yeah, Vista doesn't play well with BoA. I tried to unzip the editor, and my unzipping program told me it was encountering an error when creating the folder that the BoAE unzips into. I naturally assumed that it was all Vista's fault, and indeed it was. For anyone who may find this useful, you'd need to turn off "User Account Control" in the Control Panel to get rid of this problem.
Magnificent Ornk Swimmin' Salmon
Actually, most folks have the best luck if they do not allow BoA to be placed in the "Program Files" directory. Just make it a top level directory and your troubles should disappear.
Tenderfoot Thahd General Nuance
Thanks Salmon. I was trying but unable to create a new scenario, checked this thread for ideas, and your suggestion worked perfectly.
Tenderfoot Thahd General Nuance
Oh goddamnit. In the scenario, the PCs move from the room they start in and into another room. In this room, BoA decides to give unhandled exceptions. Non-reproducible. >. I'm using a custom graphic in there, but the graphic displays fine. Magnificent Ornk nikki.
Mind posting the chunk of code from the scenario data script which sets up the custom floor/terrain/whatever?
Unflappable Drayk Lazarus.
It's almost certainly a data script problem, as Nikki pointed out, and also almost certainly a graphics issue. And by "non reproducible" do you mean that it happened once and then went away? Or that it happens seemingly at random?
Tenderfoot Thahd General Nuance
Oh fail. I imported the Captain and Soldier creatures, but used a small-template graphic. I didn't change that line. Mah bad.
