Falconhurst
Is there any way to change the race pictures? i.e., have a nephil or slith character with a human picture? This used to be possible on some old Avernums IIRC but not on Avernum 5. Is there an easy mod or fix to this? I like playing sliths and nephils but would rather look at the human pictures - perhaps silly, but it is nice to have characters that one can identify with better when playing for a long time. Thanks.
Abhishek
Once i tried it myself in a5 but i failed because i dont find any such option which can allow you to change graphics in this way.
Tarson
Script editing can do it, and programs like resedit can do it aswell. Not sure why you would want to other then something like turning a clawbug picture into a ornk.
Øther
What is the difference between a human and a slith/nephil that looks human? A few extra skill points and an experience penalty! If you are willing to try change the way the character looks, then just use the editor or something else to give yourself those few points, and say that they used to be a slith/nephil. Edit: I also forgot, another thing about being slith/nephil is that there are a few different, but minor, dialogue changes in a few places. Thanks. you're thinking of exile. i remember in the demo for e2 i'd use that chainmail bikini chick picture for a slith and naming her "half-slith". that's about it for me and exile, though. Adronson
Can't you just rename the bmp files? I did a couple of the large images and it worked. Don't know if it would work with the small animated images. It would take some work to figure out which human/cat/lizard matched up.

This works, but only if you're using the Windows version of the game. Mac users store the graphics differently.
Adronson
Thanks for clarifying that. Didn't know about the Mac. This works enough, but not perfectly. Perhaps some of the images vary slightly in size. Trying to put the blue human image on the mean looking dark cat, you can get the main image on the party and training panels to work. Also the unarmed animations seem to work (I may not have tested all), but the sword and bow don't. Didn't have a pole arm to test that. Each character seems to have 21 images - the main full color image and five animations each for unarmed, sword, bow and pole. I think they are for standing, attacking, defending, casting and dying. To put the blue robed male human on the dark colored mean cat copy these bmp files: G226, G2800, G2802, G2803, G2804, G2805 and rename them to G238, G3400, G3402, G3403, G3404, G3405. This makes a robed human that turns into a cat if he picks up a weapon, which, for me, is quite acceptable in roleplay terms. [edit]The animation changes may only work for a few images. Looking at images sizes, there appears to be quite a range. It was just luck for me that the robed human matched part of the cat image set. The large portraits do seem to be interchangable, though.
