Well-Actually War Trall Acky
I'm not sure what happened. I was loading a new scenario into the Scenario folder, then tried to open Blades of Avernum, next thing I know the screen, when it should be going black, goes ghost white and a little message comes up saying that Data Execution Prevention has closed it. Does anyone know whats going on? The Last Archon
Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
Have you tried rebooting and opening it again? Maybe it was a one-off.
Well-Actually War Trall Acky
Tried it about a dozen separate times. I restarted my computer, it still didn't work. I turned off my computer, turned it back on, and it still wasn't working properly. Than I waited about two hours before I tried it again, and it continues to be defiant. So this is not a one-time thing. The Last Archon
Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
Are you using Vista or XP? In the meantime, here is a FAQ regarding the Data Execution Prevention. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-CA/help/186de3d0-01af-4d4c-981d-674637d2f4bf1033.mspx
Well-Actually War Trall Acky
*Checks sticker on the corner of labtop, and thanks the gods that it escaped his sticker purge* Vista. Thanks for the FAQ, though I'm still a bit confused on how to get the damn thing off. The Last Archon

Well-Actually War Trall Acky
I must be doing something wrong. I've put Blades of Avernum (and the editor/and without the editor on it) on the list, clicked the second botton on the top, clicked Apply and Okay at the same and separete times. And I am still getting the white screen. I've even restarted my computer several times. *grumble* The Last Grumbling Archon
Magnificent Ornk Swimmin' Salmon
Does it work if you remove that new scenario from the Scenario folder?
Well-Actually War Trall Acky
Still nothing. The Last Archon
Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
If you've added BoA to the list that Data Execution Prevention doesn't monitor and it still doesn't work than I don't know what to tell you. I have Windows Vista as well and it works fine for me. I would try reinstalling BoA in case the DEP deleted a file or blocked a file somehow before it was told to not monitor it. Did your antivirus program pop up any warnings about BoA or try to block it somehow?
Magnificent Ornk Swimmin' Salmon
What is interesting to me is that BoA worked prior to this once scenario being added to the data folder. Something weird happened. It would be nice to see a complete set of steps taken, and try to duplicate this problem. Of course, I don't run Vista, so
Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
Yeah, that's true. Ackrovan, tell me what scenario you tried and I'll download it as well and let you know what happens with it. Since I have Windows Vista, maybe the same thing will happen, maybe not. Well-Actually War Trall Acky
I had to (re)download The Tripple Valley, Iffy's second scenario. Thats what I find the strangest. This scenario had already been in my Scenario folder. So how come this particular download didn't work? I got them from the same place (the download link that was posted here). Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
Well, try reinstalling BoA, in case a crucial file got deleted. If you have the game on CD then your copy will still be registered, if not then save your registration file (whatever that is). I'll check The Triple Valley scenario later on tonight and report back. Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
Well I tried the Triple Valley scenario last night and it worked fine on my computer. The only bug that occurs is when a dialog box pops up it minimizes right away, leaving me clicking on my screen and having no clue why the game isn't working. I have to push the START key to get the Windows Taskbar back, which shows me that BoA has two open windows at which point I can click on the dialog box and read what it says. But no hassles with the Data Execution Prevention, so I really don't know what the problem is with your computer Ackrovan. Like I said, just try reinstalling BoA and maybe that will fix the problem. Also, I am logged into my computer as an administrator, is that what you are doing? Or if you're not, could you?
Magnificent Ornk Ephesos
Yeah... I'm going to have to recommend reinstalling as well. If it doesn't work, email Jeff. Maybe he'll know what's going on.

Magnificent Ornk Dikiyoba
Nothing happens. The game will only list a maximum of thirty scenarios when you're selecting one to play. Or it'll make the entire computer explode. Dikiyoba is sure that has probably happened once or twice.
Well-Actually War Trall Acky
Tody-Linn - I think thats the only option left. Unfortunatly, I've lost the CD, so I'll have to wait to get the new code from Jeff. The Last Archon

Magnificent Ornk Swimmin' Salmon
After that just move the scenario folders you no long care to play into a newly created second folder in the BoA directory, and name it something that is currently unused. Well-Actually War Trall Acky
It works! Hooray! As it turns out, it was because I made a shortcut to the scenario folder that it wasn't working. Now that I removed it, Blades is working just fine. The Last Archon
