Curious Artila SgtOtaku
for anyone wanting a character editor for G5, i am working on one. I am also modding the items to, in my opinion, improve upon the game and to add functionality. If you want the editor and the modded items, just leave me a post. once it's up and running and fully tested, i will post it on my site, and provide a link to it. EDIT: Please note that the modded item list provided below is NOT fully functional, and that i will be providing a new one in my final Editor release. Curious Artila SgtOtaku
Also, if you have any tips for making the editor, or have experience scripting the game, please give me some tips.
Burgeoning Battle Gamma Trakovite Mitchell
Yeah don't over do your editor. Make it faced on one thing, or make the editing parts choosable (Like if I wanted JUST magic modified).
Curious Artila SgtOtaku
thanks! i was thinking of having the different types of editing (skill, magic, shaping, etc) be in different areas. i hope this is a good idea...
Rotghroth Rhapsody RCCCL
If you're confident in you're scripting abilities, you could make it all accessible from one point.
Well-Actually War Trall A less presumptuous name.
I would recommend going to the geneforge series forum. They have a link to Criokles (sp) editor, which has been modded to work for pretty much every game. It's always been my favorite layout. The biggest thing to remember is the line limits per script, so you may have to break it up into a few different zones. [Edit] Also, that makes it easier for people to pick and choose what parts of the editor they want.
Curious Artila SgtOtaku
@RCCCL: this is actually my first time doing any scripting, so I am actually not very confidant in my abilities. i actually test each new change to make sure it works. @master1: that's the editor i am using as a reference for my G5 editor. I am working on splitting it up because of the line limit.
Curious Artila SgtOtaku
so does anyone know if an editor will work on vista? i recently switched from XP to vista and i tried to mod my file, but vista refused to let me. does anyone know how to fix this issue? Tenderfoot Thahd tylerSa
Well done, i have an editor just like that but it makes you all powerfull like a god or something, although I need to remodify the script to fix some of the irritating bugs in it. I will have more information very soon and possibly the editor. This post is meant for the one who created this editor.

Curious Artila SgtOtaku
well, i finally figured out that it was the UAC that prevented modifications to the program files (either that or one of my anti-viruses) I am now working on a new editor, allowing for the creation of a god-like shaper, or to pick and choose which stats to increase. It is taking me time, and i have some interesting scripting i have to do. But i have to thank Loyalist Shaper Ganduv for his editor, without which i would not have figured out how to easily modifiy certain stats. One key feature of my new editor is what i call a "dependancy-style" editor, where a user can augment ALL required stats for say, ur-drakon creation, i.e. intelligence (those things are essence hogs!), drakon creation ability, fire shaping, etc... this makes having the ability to shape only the creations you want very easy. There will also be class-based stat editors, i.e. guardian stat boosters, and at various levels. the only real downside to my editor is the fact that, due to the massive amount of stuff able to be done, it will have to be spread around in multiple areas. As an interesting sidenote, i will also be including easter eggs in this editor, where an obilisk, sign, or NPC will grant you access to special grants, such as an artifact grant or others. these easter eggs will NOT be listed in any sort of access point guide, and users will have to find them. as a final note, the editor will be offered in a zip file for easy download, as many of the files will have slight scripting tweaks. Some of the files will be dummy files, included to throw you off the easter eggs. these dummy files are simply the original, un-edited versions of the respective dialogue files. DISCLAIMER: ALL credit towards the new method of scripting goes to Ganduv. His G5 Editor is what i am basing these new scripts on, and is the basis for my editor. Burgeoning Battle Gamma Ganduv
No prob Sgt, I'm almost done with mine, since I'm trying to make it pretty basic, but I'l certainly troubleshoot yours, it might even become like Criokles editor if your lucky. EDIT: It would be nice to make an Ur-Drakon that didn't cost any essence

Burgeoning Battle Gamma Ganduv
Yeah I've been screwing around with the scripts looking for that I found that you can make spells use 0 essence from the gf5objsmisc but I'l keep messing with it oh and if you want to make it to where canisters never get destroyed go to the been_used = 1 and change it to 0 and just delete the line kill_object(ME,0); and that should do it.
Ineffable Wingbolt Øther
Mostly what I do to counter the essence cost is make my character start with around 30000 essence, so it is never a problem.

Curious Artila SgtOtaku
well, it'll get figured out by someone. the only thing i think people may not like is my "easter egg" idea. I think it would be interesting, but that's just me. and once i figure out where to put the parts, and what signs/obilisks/NPCs/controls to put them in, i will start working on the actual construction and then upload it. and BTW, does anyone happen to know the max. lines per script? or is it just 290 talk nodes?
Burgeoning Battle Gamma Ganduv
Not sure about the max lines per script, what I did was use all the lines between 178-290 and it's worked out good so far, I'm thinking of adding something to where it will open a shop if you click on a certain thing (for example the Guardian Kulish shaping training etc.) but I'm not sure yet, at any rate it's coming along pretty well. And the easter egg sounds like a good idea, only make it to where the gear they get has super stats or something like that would be cool. EDIT: Custom charms would be great, definetly. Also wasn't there a thread or something leading to a download that decreased the lines in gf5itemschars?
Curious Artila SgtOtaku
the g5itemschars.txt isn't the main issue. and the easter eggs will be for super stat boosts and custom items. once i get back from the library, i will get straight to work on the editor. also, i will need a few people that have a save game from the end game area to test the full version in the dera reach and endgame areas, as i dont have a save game at that point. if you are interested, PM me.
Burgeoning Battle Gamma Ganduv
Yeah, but if your gonna make custom items you might wanna get something to reduce the lines in it, because you can only add like 3 or 4 custom items in its original form, also you should make a super baton/wand that never runs out of ammo, recently I've been trying to make one but I don't want to make all the other batons have infinite ammo, same with wands.
Ineffable Wingbolt Øther
Making a single baton or wand with unlimited ammo is easy. Just put in an it_charges = 0; line and you have it. To make it super powerful, you can give it any ability you want, and go into the gf5objsmisc.txt file and make the ability more powerful. Burgeoning Battle Gamma Ganduv
Ah, I didn't know that Doom I thought if you did that it would make it have 0 shots, thanks for the info.
Curious Artila SgtOtaku
another thing im trying to do is add stackability to items like the runed onyx and the ivory skull. i have yet to figure that out. Also, Please be aware, the editor is done for Zone 0! ^^ it took me forever to design it and then test it, and one part i had in there was invalidating the script, so..... yea. i am working on the minallah dialogue, but it's slow going, because i plan out what goes where, so i can keep track of where to find it for testing purposes. i have 5 signs to work with, but it was going to all be low-level item grants... im making my editor kinda go with the game, so the easter eggs are where you can make your character an uber-shaper, while the main part of the editor trys to not be a true cheat. Item grants will be scattered throughout the entire landscape, while stat mods will be a little more rare. it is still possible to use the standard stat mods to boost the stats to the max, but not every stat will be modded early in the game. i was tired of finding that editors are in the very first area, and boosted you all the way. it makes the game boring and kinda tedious. that's why i am making the editor flow with the game. it simply makes the game more enjoyable, without the full boost.
Burgeoning Battle Gamma Ganduv
Umm I think Microphage made something explaining item stackability, just compare items that don't stack to items that do and it should become apparent (note that I am not quite sure how to do it myself) but that's what I did when I didn't understand something. EDIT: I also get why you want to make yours like it is, when I made my editor or tried another I didn't use it in the beggining because it seemed to spoil the accomplishment (when say you get access to new shaping spells from Alwan's storyline) and such so sounds good, just wish they'd make a Blades of Geneforge

Curious Artila SgtOtaku
the editor is well on it's way. it's taking longer than i thought simply due to the way my editor works. my editor is designed to be a fine-tune meathod of modification, with some easter eggs for the super stat boosts. it is also designed for flow with the game, so as to allow people to breeze through the early segments, without being completely over powerful. The final thing that is making this editor take a while is the fact that i beta my mods before general release, that way, i know they work. Curious Artila SgtOtaku
I have decided that this editor will be offered in 2 versions: Rebel Version, for those that want a total cheat.
