Easygoing Eyebeast Triumph
If I want to order one of these games, is it worthwhile for me to order the CD or the hintbook? Have you (whoever you are who's reading this) ever had trouble where you found it valuable to have the CD, or that made you wish you had gotten the CD? What about the hintbook? If got you it, how valuable was it to you, and if you didn't get it, did you ever have trouble such that you needed? What kind of information is in it - is it just a walkthrough, or does it explain game mechanics, etc? Thank you.
Magnificent Ornk Dikiyoba
They're definitely not necessary. I've never bought a hintbook, so I can't help you there. I do have the Avernum Trilogy CD since it was cheaper to get all three games that way. It did make it more convenient to move all my games from my old computer to the new one, but not by much. Dikiyoba.
Easygoing Eyebeast Enraged Slith
CDs are only slightly more convenient, but that's not why I buy them. I just like having the CDs.
Burgeoning Battle Gamma Desmarestia
I bought the GF5 hintbook as a souvenir. It has quite a lot of useful information including walkthroughs and maps. While it doesn't explain game mechanics (that information is in the manual) and much of the content is already on these forums (albeit in a less convenient form), the hintbook is still a neat thing to have. Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
I always buy the CD and the hintbooks for Spiderweb Software games, because you never know when you'll be without the internet. Who knows, the hintbook could be your only source of information one day!
Chittering Clawbug FrostBit Shaper
Every time I buy a SWS game i get the CD for a collector's item. I don't use them unless I reinstall the game.
Easygoing Eyebeast The Mystic
I always buy the CD and hint book. The CD I use as a backup; the hint book I use if I can't quite remember how to do something, or I really, really, really get stuck.
Seasoned Roamer Shrapy
Same reasons as Toby-Lnn, but also, you get to support the company. Remeber, Jeff gets to eat based on how greedy you are
Garrulous Glaahk Namine
I'd get both, its nice, convenient, and it supports the company =D.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
I used to get the CD which has both Windows and Mac versions on it. Makes it much easier to move games to another computer. Plus you get the unregistered versions of the other games so you can try them out. The hint books vary in usefulness. The maps are great and when you need a hint for a puzzle they are useful.
Rotghroth Rhapsody Feo Takahari
I've gotten the CD ever since an attempt to uninstall a competitor's game led to the permanent deletion of 10 other games. I generally rely on the walkthroughs rather than the hint books, though.
Garrulous Glaahk macdude22
I'm obsessive compulsive collectivity so I get the CD's and the Books, but the CD's are nice because they are registered. It's not a huge deal to request a new key when needed but I float around computers in my home and it's nice to have the disk to install the registered games.
