Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
Is it really worth hanging on to all these things? Right now I'm walking around with a small fortune in fine steel, rubies, etc. and so far nobody has offered to make me anything that's better than what I've found lying around (potions excluded). Well, I haven't found anything better than blessed boots, but it's only a matter of time. I'm only at Exodus, if that makes a difference. Opinions? Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
I hung on to my stash, but I don't think I had used it all up at the end of the game. I also had items crafted that I would turn around and sell, they brought in some good change. I know there's a crafter at the end of the game that makes some nice stuff. If you don't mind some spoilers, check out the Avernum 5 Gazatteer. It lists the crafters found in each town and the items they make. http://www.anthonygoreham.net/text/a5-text.html
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
most what you can get by crafting you can find while wandering around so .......... only worth crafting is making knowledge potions/brews and wisdom crystals at Muck. Ineffable Wingbolt Øther
Though its still nice to get one of those powerfull weapons at the dragon's isle.
Rotghroth Rhapsody madrigan
Personally, I hold onto as many of the crafting ingredients as I can. I use most of them for Energy Potions and Knowledge Brews, but some of the crafters can make VERY useful stuff. It's true that in some cases you can find the same things laying about, but sometimes you want more than one or you want to sell one thing or another. And a few things cannot be found. Some of the crafters are way better than the others, though. I deal mostly with the weapon/magic item guys in Tranquility, Highground, Muck, and Melanchion's Isle. They're the best ones. Unflappable Drayk Toby-Linn
I always like the Blasted Vambraces. Here's a list of stuff you can get crafted in Melanchion's Keep: Crafted by Helft: Putrified Gauntlets = 5 × fine leather + 1 × demon’s bile + 4 × focusing crystal + 1 × eyestalk + 500 coins; Blasted Vambraces = 4 × fine steel + 1 × demon’s bile + 4 × focusing crystal + 500 coins; Wand of the Inferno= 1 × eyestalk + 1 × demon’s bile + 2 × focusing crystal + 500 coins. Taken from the Avernum 5 Gazatteer.
Rotghroth Rhapsody madrigan
You can also get the Heartstriker Bow from Helft, which can be important if you have a dedicated archer. I don't recall the ingredients but it's a lot of stuff. I think the list includes a gold bar.
Well-Actually War Trall Rowen
I like the Putrified Gauntlets and would suggest making a save before getting it and then testing it out to see if you like it too. If you don't just go back to your save and you will have back all your ingredients.
Rotghroth Rhapsody madrigan
It's funny that you have to make these purchasing decisions without knowing exactly what you're getting. "A sword." "A pair of bracers." It's like buying "a car" or "a watch" without knowing the details or how it compares to what you already have. Hence the saving and reloading. Easygoing Eyebeast Jerakeen
So the consensus seems to be, yes it's more or less worth it to hang onto this stuff, and the crafters get better as you go. I didn't know that you could get knowledge brews and wisdom crystals made--those seem more worthwhile than anything else.
Ineffable Wingbolt Øther
From a question above: I was talking about the heartstriker bow. Some may not consider it good, but I liked it, and it was just about the only thing worthwhile to use those eyebeast stalks for anyways. Didn't Warmaster Helms also require eyestalks? 25% fatigue reduction is pretty great.
Ineffable Wingbolt Øther
Maybe, but it was so long ago, and I don't remember to much. Besides, I don't actually craft to much (basically I just save , craft to see the stats, and then reload), and I think you could get more than one of the eyestalks. Well-Actually War Trall Rowen
About eyestalks and where to find them. Click to reveal.. If I remember you can only get two eyestalks. One from under the town of Muck and the other from one of the islands in the dragons land.
Hatchling Cockatrice Randomizer
There are up to 3 eyestalks possible but there is a random element in whether they will drop. Click to reveal.. Vahanatai Trial area before Highground, under Muck, and northeast of Melanchion's Keep

Mandrake Tincture and Demon's Bile and few other ingredients. I didn't use Warmaster Helm since I liked more about protection not extras at fighters although spellcasters had Runed Helms not fighters (obvious reason naturally). Hatchling Cockatrice Lilith
Battle disciplines are useful for everyone, even spellcasters -- and disciplines like Bladeshield can help characters protect themselves. I think I had a Warmaster Helm on everybody by the end of the game.
Ineffable Wingbolt Øther
But the beserk is obviously the best, even though it takes quite a while for the fatigue to go away.
Understated Ur-Drakon Earth
I had Helm of Klin at fighters (if there's 2 at A5, if not then 1 of fighter had Warmaster Helm prolly) and Runed Helms at spellcasters due Magery bonus, scs used mostly shield breaker and leg sweep disciplines, sometimes well-aimed blows too.
