Insane Scythe Guy
In my party I had a nephil archer and human pole fighter. I know that pole weapons are supposed to be the strongest (or next to) weapons in the game, but the damage that the nephil used to inflict was ridiculous. It could compare to the punishment he used to deal with swords that he had on, and in the end he had near 19 Bows/9 Shapshooter/11 Dexterity, and his Melee was 2. And he always got the top tech bows possible. Where did I go wrong? Or didn't I?
Radix Malorum Est Cupiditas
The difference was that you were using a nephil (who gets a bonus to bows) for your archer, but did not use a slith (who gets a bonus to pole use) for your halberdier. Also, the best bow has a x7 multiplier, while the best halberd has x4.
Lilith
Another problem is that a lot of enemies have Parry, and even when Parry doesn't completely negate a melee attack, it seriously reduces the damage. Since Parry doesn't reduce the damage from missile attacks, missiles will seem to do more damage by comparison.
Insane Scythe Guy
So if the nephil dished out approx the same damage ranged as in melee (talking about bows like of Decay or of Submission here), it is due to his racial preference? With such discrepancies like Melee 2 and the other mentioned already? Anyway, what I really want to find out is if your archers do the same ridiculously small damage to enemies later on (like Vahnatai just after emerging from the tunnel east of Bargha, where I inflicted between 8 and 20)? It turned me down, compared with my pole-wielding fighter who could make it 20+20, the non-slith one.
Radix Malorum Est Cupiditas
Why the bow of decay? Why the bow of submission? The multipliers on those are 7-14 + 1-2/level. You should have a blessed longbow (13-39 + 1-3/level) by now. Your main archer should be using that. Also, your melee damage may be inflated by skills such as strength, bladesmaster, anatomy and lethal blow.
The Lurker
Wait till you get the Heartstriker Bow (the Ebony Bow an Eliavri's Bow are good too). I used a slith halberdier and a nephil archer, and when I got the Heartstriker, my nephil archer did more damage than my slith halberdier. The Heartstriker Bow seems to be the most powerful weapon in the game.
Emmisary of Immanence
It's hard to do as much damage with a bow as with a halberd, but you should definitely be getting some solid hits with bows. Just make sure to use the damaging bows. The bows you've chosen are very useful but not very damaging. I gave them to my casters and stuck with the purely powerful bows for archers. —Alorael, who usually did a bit more damage to vahnatai with bows. They parry and riposte so much that attacking with a melee weapon is often counterproductive, and bows can do plenty of damage.
Darkdread
I have the blessed bow. When I had to escort the Vanhatai under Almaria I was doing like 20-29 damage with my best bowman, then the Vanhatai started using his razordisks and did like 55 damage to the guards! wow! *i
Outside of the final dungeon, before the entrance, just north of the field of pylons head to the far west. You need very high nature lore to get it.

With the Heartstriker bow, I was able to do more than 100 damage to some enemies such as mutant lizards, and I could do 30-50 damage to some very tough enemies.
