  1. This is a little ridiculous; but I would like to know if it is possible. Playing through Avernum; I was wondering if it would be possible to name your summons? Not change their sprites, race or class, just their name. Such as "Mage Summons Bob the Crawler." "Bob the Crawler Attacks Emporer Hawthorne (25%)" "Emperor Hawthorne takes 2 points of physical damage(100 blocked.)" A few friends of mine were playing with the idea and wondering if it could be done.
  2. Hello there, and sorry for the upcoming annoyance. I have been re-playing a speed-playthrough of Avernum : Escape from the pit. I have played this games a few times in the past. This time i set difficulty on torment. I managed to kill Hawthorne. But with FOUR brooches because i 'am dumb and i did not remember the 5-brooches trick. I played six hours today with only autosaving, so my only last usable save is six tedious hours ago. I escaped from underworld during that and did a bunch of sidequests. I don't want to do that again. So, please, i would be ever so grateful for some help here. There must be a way of editing some file somewhere to either give me the platinum brooch just before leaping into the portal of Hawthorne's room OR to reset all flags concerning the teleporter augmenter (if i do a "backtothestart" to grab the brooch in hope to re-do the royal spire again, i am stuck afterwards for the Augmented Teleporter is inert. Or maybe is there even a way to make it so my saved game considers i have killed Hawthorne and voilà. Please help, you are my only hope *dramatic violins and choirs*
  3. After finishing my Let's Play of Nethergate: Resurrection and Geneforge, my quest to do all the Spiderweb Software games takes me to AVERNUM! Gonna be a while to get through all these, but this should hopefully be good, and I hope you guys enjoy it! Behold the first episode below! Let me know how you enjoy the vids, and if you guess who the party characters are named after, you win cookies!

    Short story

The Following thread is about short-stories I have or am writing, three of which use swear-words. Otherwise the stories are written for an all-round audience. The stories due to format are likely to change, syntax and writing errors corrected. All of the stories are intended to have political, philosophical or/scientifical backgrounds, all of which are for the moment fictitious. Have an interesting time reading. - I've been working on a two short stories project these last two days: one with a bunch of deamon creatures called the Shed'im which spring up in today's middle east and seem to attack Western military forces without any motive whatsoever as it seems and an other one set in a world like Avernum, set in caves with monsters and dragons. This plus work explains why I haven't been working on my geneforge project latley. So to make amends (I hope) for this long wait here's a extract (the ending *Spoilers*) of the short story entitled Shed'im (which has and I warn you, some political resonnance) :
  5. Hello SW community, I know that Jeff has been working on rework for Avernum 2 but I wonder if there is any screen shoots and other stuff since I haven't player original Avernum 2 I would be grateful for any information
  6. Usually I just post in the old thread. But this one is big: Spiderweb Collection on sale on Steam for $11.99 for total package. Or you can buy the games individually: Avadon The Black Fortress: $1.99 Avadon 2: The Corruption: $4.99 Avernum Escape from the Pit: $1.99 Avernum Pack (A4, A5, and A6): $2.39 Geneforge Saga Pack (G1-G5): $3.99 Nethergate Resurrection: $0.99 http://store.steampowered.com/sub/33525/ Or load up Steam and search for Spiderweb Software. I already have all the games, but good time to introduce some friends to Spiderweb Software.
  7. Is it posible, if so who can do it? Avernum is one of my favorite games and i cant play it, and i refuse to use windows/iCrap. Avernum HD runs like crap in wine, while Avadon runs great nativly.
  8. So somehow I found myself digging through some downright ancient posts and files and found what was the oldest and very first digital rendition I ever did of Demonslayer. Demonslayer Circa 10 years ago - http://i.imgur.com/lTB1D3x.gif ... Yeah! Thankfully Spiderweb Software isn't the only one who's benefited from a decade of growth and experience. As shown here I've gotten a touch better in time. But, to the meat of the subject, I've gone back and reworked some of the pieces from my earlier attempts. I standardized the dimensions to a 1920 x 1080 resolution, and also did some retouching, redesigning, and sometimes straight up recreating of some of the originals. 9. Hi, I am stuck in the game. I was sincerelly trying to play it from the ground to finish without looking at walkthroughs or any sort of help, but well, I give up! I got the password, I got the royal seal, then the barrier ritual from Khoth. Went through the part where we can find khoth's barriers and the magic fountain, passed by two relativelly big battles. Used the flying Orb to pass over a big hole and faced a small group of enemies (Erika's, by their sayings) and, in the end, I found a small island with a big fort door and a rune on the ground. The problem is, when I step on the rune, the game states I can't understand it and that my journey was in vain, as in the image below. I am really near to the Hidden Island Tower. I know it's probably something obvious, but I tried talking to Erika, Khoth, to the Hidden Tower mage, everything I could think of. I am already 30+ and want to finish the game, but really couldn't figure this one out. Took me quite a while to get in the hidden tower already, don't want to get stuck here as well! Is it about these brooches or something? Thank you guys!
  10. Hi, I first learnt about Avadon over a year ago and from the start I was intrigued, what looked like an old style rpg I could really get into. I was really excited to play this and have it as a travel game I could play while heading to work via train. In December last year I purchased my first tablet, a Google Nexus 10. I thought that this was the time, I could now grab Avadon and play it on my ride to work. I thought I would get the demo just to check it out and then purchase soon after. However once I tryed out the demo I found that the UI was extremely small and almost impossible to use. Avadon was relatively new to android so I sent off an email about my issue and quickly recieved a response, stating that they were aware of the issue and a fix was soon to come. I have waited patiently for this fix, it was mentioned in the email that the fix would be released in February and I would be contacted when it was released. February came and went and I had no response. So I sent off another email and I have yet to receive a response. I then hear of Avernum being released for Android, so I quickly check the forums and find that it also suffers from the same issue. Poor ui for Hi-res tablets. I want to know several things, has the UI issue been fixed for Hi-res tablets such as my Nexus 10 for Avadon just without any indication? Does Avernum escape from the pit have a suitably sized UI for the hi-res tablet? Is there still the possibility of a fix for either of these? Thankyou, Spawneh (James)

    Which to play

I have all the Spiderweb games. I believe I've actually bought them multiple times, because I enjoy the games -- however, I've only REALLY gotten into playing them on my tablet. (So hopefully there'll be a Humble Bundle android release for Avadon 2, along with the others). The games really come to life on the tablet, I've found. However, since I have the other games, and since beating Avadon and Escape The Pit has whetted my appetite for Spiderweb games, I'm thinking of trying them again. (Since I own them all, and many of them twice.) So. I'm not going to play the rest of the first Avernum trilogy, since it's in the midst of an update that should end with it on my tablet (I hope!)... which is my preferred way of playing, but that leaves me with the question of which game to play next. Avernum 4? Geneforge 2? Perhaps I should hop straight to Geneforge 5 or Avernum 6 since I've already been "spoiled" by the modern conveniences... Any suggestions?
  12. Just where are Avadon saves kept
  13. Hello! I own the 2nd Avernum series and Avernum Escape the Pit. Between Real Life and some games I've been waiting for the GOTY edition to come out (I don't buy new games after I realized I had spent $150 on Fallout 3, and GOTY comes out for 30 bucks) these games got shelved for a while. While my real life is still relatively hectic, I have made it through the other games I was playing, so I found myself wanting to come back and pick up where I left off in the Avernum series. The problem is I can't quite remember where I was and what was going on. I had beaten Avernum 4, and was part way into Avernum 5 and pretty decently into Avernum Escape the Pit. In Avernum 5, I had just left the area where the dragon was a captive to some town. Can't remember what I did with him, but pretty sure I neither killed nor freed him, and just left him there. In Avernum Escape the Pit, I had just made it to The Abyss. So now I'm just trying to figure out where I am and how exactly I got here:) Not that I need to necessarily to continue the games, but it would be nice. I'd also like to remember what happened in game 4. The only thing that I can really remember about that game is that Shades were attacking the cities. So, I was hoping maybe there were plot summaries of these games somewhere. I know they're not 100% linear, but they should be linear enough for me to stop before I spoil the future plot for myself. I tried wikipedia and a google search but wasn't able to find anything, so figured I'd finally sign up for the boards and ask here. Additionally, I'm pretty big into PNP and usually am GMing a game at all times. Has anyone tried running an Avernum game in D&D 3.0/3.5/PF? I'm in the middle of a D100 Fallout game right now, but am trying to find something to run after that, and an Avernum game may be interesting. Anyway, thanks for your help.
  14. I have purchased A:EftP for my android tablet the day it was launched and, other than the issue I am about to explain, it has worked relatively flawlessly. My problem is this, the game crashes every time combat ends with a special event dialogue, like with the bandit toll near the bat cave and the goblin encounter north of Fort Avernum. These dialogues work fine when in a town or dungeon, but in overworld combat it seems to freeze the game up and I am forced to close it and reload from an earlier save; waiting does nothing. This happens with every overworld instance that ends with a special encounter dialogue at the end of combat, and it is problematic. Is there anything that can be done on my end, or should I simply wait for some sort of a patch?
  15. I know this feature isn't officially supported. I also know how to run the game itself in a window via a program like DxWnd. I just can't do it with the Steam version, whatever windower software I use complains about Steam not running when I try to start the exe. Has anyone found a work around for this? Am I going to have to make an entire new virtual machine with Steam in there to run these games in a window?
  16. I'm primed for another jaunt through Avernum: Escape from the Pit on my new iPad Mini and was thinking it would be fun if there was something similar to Angband Geek Codes for Avernum. It obviously can't be transferred straight across because Angband is single-character and there are fewer character development options; so the code is quite a bit simpler. And Angband can be measured with more linearly because of the importance of Dungeon Level and Character Level. (This may work better for Avadon since that has single primary character but the Avernum series is hands down my favorite.) Having said that it may be possible to come up with something that can be shared via things like Twitter and in email sigs. Here's a first stab, which is for the Avernum series. This is for a starting party and uses the following: Avernum(I) iPad D:C C! So-1 Ro-1 Cl-1 Ma-1 R:0 Avernum followed by the parenthetical number in the series. Platform played on Difficulty (Casual | Normal | Hard Torment) Game type (Win | Current | Most Fun | Other) (! if no cheats are used, c if a cheat has been used) Four positions for the type of character (first two letters) and level Reputation What I left out: Artifacts - those are more clearly defined in Angband but there are not that many in Avernum Resistances - probably too many to list for each character? Race should be added for the Avernum games that have racial options for player characters Dungeon Level - this could be the current area you are in but in Angband DL is a big indicator Thoughts?
  17. Having trouble getting Avernum to start. I'm attempting to run the demo version on netbook: a Dell Insprion Mini 10, about two years old, 1.66GHz Intel Atom processor, 1 gig RAM, running Windows 7 Starter SP1, 32-bit version. 80-gig HD still has 35 gigs free. I have followed troubleshooting suggestions: rebooting, closing all programs (I've even killed all nonessential processes), running the DirectX executable, windowed, full screen, various graphics options, made sure all drivers are up-to-date, etc. Every time I start the program, it's the same: I get the "choose resolution" prompt, but after moving through it, the process simply stops. The only indicator that I have as to the nature of the problem is that when prompted to select a resolution, there are no resolutions listed. This netbook has only two resolution settings, 1024x576 and 640x480. With older Spiderweb programs, this is not an issue: when prompted to change resolution, I am presented with a proper 3x4 interface flanked on either side by blank screen. I am hoping to attain this with the latest product... but I'll settle for windowed and running. The Silent Assassin will settle for nothing less than total wold domination! So! Rolling three dice to attack Indonesia from East Australia! Again!
