Okay I created a game called Merteuil/Spidweb. The password is webspid. Phase length is 2 days, and you guys have 2 days to enter the game. I have little idea what I'm doing so if someone could direct me a bit in how to organize this game, I'd appreciate it. http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=125276 What's the difference between vDiplomacy and webDiplomacy anyhow?

I'm interested in trying this, any games going on any time soon for that?
  6. I just wanted to make a small comment about the world of Avadon in comparison to the other games. In my limited exposure to the three worlds, Avadon is the least interesting, it presents nothing new or fundamentally creative at any point, it's also been an amazing pleasure to explore in comparison to the others. Geneforge you move from zone to zone, clearing them out, occasionally back-tracking for super-hard dungeons or to turn in a quest. It's extremely linear to say the least. Avernum isn't linear in the slightest of course, but you still don't really back-track or look upon areas again in a way more substantial than Geneforge's precedent. These things aren't the case in Avadon, I've spent an absurd amount of time exploring, and re-exploring, and re-searching the Kva Lands alone that I laugh at how short I thought this game would be with 20 or so zones. In order to full explore a land I have to spend seeing if things have changed and seek work, multiple times over. While far from efficient it was extremely immersive and once I set out from Avadon to do some work in the outside lands, I knew I wouldn't get to come back for days. To busy trying to find that one more odd job, or explore that one more nook with a bit of loot. It really was an extreme pleasure, and still is as I continue through the game. On a un-related note I want to also commend the morality of the game. In Geneforge the vast majority of it was a ethical quandry, but ones that boil down to your sense of "right" and "wrong". In Avadon right and wrong isn't even part of the equation, it's all politics in which you know not what you do. You can't gauge the consequences of your actions because the world is too complicated. Everything that might cause bloodshed might not, you can't tell. It's guesswork almost, and I find that really thrilling. If I had all the facts and knowledge of outcomes it wouldn't be a hard decision anymore. Of course I also am allowed to simply be a jerk, which to some characters I've enjoyed. I don't suspect Jeff would read this, but if he does I wanted to show how much I enjoyed some of these differences from his other games.
  7. I don't like sharp, painful things touching my skin too much. Soooo, geneforge I think? That's the one were civilians have the highest survival rate? Maybe Avadon, seems like there are a number of regions where people aren't dying left and right. Or the surface word in Avernum at any point that wasn't Avernum 3. That should give me a pretty high survival rate. I really don't know, I suppose if I'm in any position where I'm not being stabbed or exploded I'd die of disease. Disease doesn't seem to be a problem in Terrestia, maybe. Point is, painful things hurt. I'm not an adventurer. In real, non-turned based combat with HP, a stray arrow is the end of the line. Very relevant towards your decision when everything can kill you instantly
  8. Unfortunately he can only use 5 Korean citizens as party members at any given time. He also has to single-handedly micro-manage all their stats and gear. Someone should teach him that one dictator and 5 armed peasants isn't a good party though. Need at least one thief (for traps and lock-picking), and one healer. Some people are partial to Rangerss as their healers but I've always enjoyed Cleric's. Slap some heavy armor on that cleric and you're healer is one of the tankier member of your party. I'm going to go play Icewind Dale now.
  9. A servile, because I'm pretty humanoid like. And dikiyoba would be a fyora. I'm not very creative, sowwy D:
  10. Welp, I'll eventually get around to finding out for myself. Maybe what I've read will make a bit more sense in context, or maybe I'll be even more confused.
  11. From what I've gathered from reading other people's posts and whatnot all canister-heavy endings are some variant of killing almost everyone you meet whom finally checks up on Drypeak. While you die in the end at least you take out half of the Shaper army first
  12. Thank you all for the advice but like I said I've become deeply infatuated with the Agent. Being able to kill everything I see in one hit is great, and the gentle and passionate love-making is a plus.
  13. Oh yeh, all questions I ever have will be in order to beat the game (all challenge areas included, and killing anyone I don't really like), on normal. I've already called it quits on a Shaper though. It doesn't appeal and I miss making things exploded with my mind (How i interpret Firebolt.)
  14. So I've finished the demo with a awakened agent and I'm thinking I want to start a obeyer shaper before I buy the game but reading the various posts it sounds like you can only afford to invest in one school of shaping to succeed? Is this true of all the games, as that would be really lame and render making a character just to see the creations kinda pointless. Might as well stick with my creation-less Agent.
  15. Okay, don't go east, noted I'm going ahead and trying Agent and I made it to Vakkiri before I went to bed last night, I"ll probably start exploring that and seeing what happens for a little bit before I go to work in an hour.
  16. Okay thanks, that's exactly what I needed A clear-cut guide on how to survive as an Agent in my first Geneforge guide.
  17. Okay cool thank you. I've no problem with the antiquated engine and graphics whatsoever and I'll be glad to start with the first. Makes sense to me seeing as they are sequels and the such. As for difficulty I'll probably start on normal and make saves every 10% of the game or something silly in order to have fall-backs in case I realize I've built my character all wrong. I've been able to figure out this is a good idea if not much else immediately from the strategy central. I am kinda looking at Agent though, seems if you want to be a pure-mage kinda person, Agent is the way to go. How much trouble am I in for doing this?
  18. As promised in other threads I am now going to try the first gene forge demo before committing to buying it or Nethergate. As such is their any immediate tips I can get from you guys? I'm going to look around in the strategy central area but I suspect a lot of that will go straight over my head.
  19. What kind of level cap should I be looking forward to? I'm 9ish now i believe and in my explorations at the roman fort upon being attacked I made a pretty darn good stand before they took me down. Same for explorations around Annwyn. If I had to guess most of my weakness resides in lack of proper spells and maybe some choice inventory pieces. If you're curious I've just been captured by the crones. Thank you for answering my question, too late to go back now but it's good knowing that the minor change I made didn't alter the game in any other ways, messing up the difficulty.
  20. My research yielded no connections between the two so I concede. The similarities are striking though. Namely in the skills, abilities and equipment/inventory.
  21. Well I'm writing this before fully thinking it through so we'll see how that goes. I can't think of anything that immediately comes to mind but I do know KoToR, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect are all to a large degree spiritual successors of Baldur's Gate. The great irony being Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is nothing like it's namesake. Any who in those games I can't think of a way to exactly level in the way you mention, it may be possible to only go out and adventure with one character (or a diminished amount) and I never noticed, this I imagine would achieve exactly what you want. Kingdoms of Amalur is Bioware's great big failure and doesn't meet any of the condition you mentioned, but it's freaking fantastic. Play it. Now Legend of Grimrock just came to mind, you may or may not find something you're looking for there, I never experimented with those sorts of things. The XCOM games are pretty perfect for this and will be very similar to Fallout in game play. The Might and Magic series might also be a decent candidate I'm a fan of the sixth and seventh game. The first five being too antiquated and the 8th and on just being plain bad. The more I think about it the more I think Might and Magic is the way to go. If I remember correctly you can use less characters than he suggested 4, or at least kill the bejeezuz out of anyone you didn't want to use, and I vaguely recall some sort of perks that increased leveling speed for some sort of strength loss. Maybe it was one of the really high-end black potions which all had a negative and positive effect.
  22. Cool thanks, I'm in Galag-tav (or something like that) at the moment. I accidentally saved instead of hit load after summoning a very unpleasant troupe and now I'm contemplating how to work my way out of that. I can use the editor to bring the two dead folks back to life and not affect my save any other way right? That would put me in the same position I'd be in if I hadn't accidentally hit save.

    Hello

Well I'm playing through the Nethergate demo now. I'm enjoying it immensely, not minding the graphics and such, so I assume I shall enjoy the first Avernum trilogy and they look abouts the same engine so presumably they'll work without a emulator. I'll probably try the first Geneforge demo before I commit to buying either though, seeing as since my last post brought all the Geneforge fans out of the woodwork
  24. *le gasp* Are you suggesting I subject my poor party to more harm than the excruciating amounts I already do? Thank you for all the information though, very helpful Anywho, on to my next question. How big exactly is the demo? When will I know I'm approaching the end?
  25. I'm a celt, and having more or less finished the goblin mines to an excruciating percentage of completion, I'm very frustrated by these glowing cubes that look to represent force fields.
