  1. 1. The scimatar says she has been marked for death but they are WAITING on it for the right time. So if you go and murder her on your own earlier you are jumping the gun as it could disrupt their plans.

    2. You should aid kyass regardless. After you finish his quest lines you can take a hit on him from someone in the castle. And this way you are paid by both kyass AND thantria for doing the same thing (before taking him out of course... personally I let him live). Kyass does try to bully the scimatar's town though, probably why thantria wanted to help them. But so far they ignore him

    3. IIRC she just dropped 1 meh shawl valued at 4000 gold (so, sold for much less of course).

    4. Her outright harmful to scimatar quests are the last 3 quests. To give her (and remove from avernum) 2 magical tomes (2 separate quests), and then to betray the scimatar's route to the surface. You can give the tomes to either the people of avenrum (rita in patricks tower) or kyass freehold

  2. Not killing friendlies is obvious... But there are some times where they go hostile due to you going somewhere or have a quest to kill them.

I am nearly done with the game and so far the only cases which I found are:

Kyass: Gives out quest chain, but there is also a quest to "drive him out" and you can tress-pass in his quarters which makes his guards hostile (although I haven't verified it makes him hostile too).

Dragons: All except pyrog should not be killed until you finish other quests, as they are needed for various quests, including main ones (and honestly I am not killing the other 4).

Thantria: Do as much of her quests as you are willing before (and if) killing her.

Pyrogs spellbook / Drath's knowledge: Multiple people give you a quest for those, so choose wisely and be aware it will fail for those you don't give it to.

Oh, and obviously, if you are caught stealing and a town goes hostile you lose all quests there, but then... don't get caught!

  3. Athron's babies are drakes because Jeff didn't bother to make a separate baby dragon monster type.

He could have just made a copy of the drake template only with the name "baby dragons" or some such...

Also, if she did had babies then all the people, including the other dragons, are incorrect in saying there are only 5 dragons in the caves. IIRC some of the other dragons know she had children but still say there are only 5 dragons...

  4. It increases the number of levels of damage you get from the spell, so the exact percentage depends on how many levels you are already getting (where the number of levels is something like Intelligence + Mage Spells + Your Level/2). By the end of the game (assuming you've allocated a good number of points to intelligence and at least 17 points to mage spells), the increase will likely be less than the increase from spellcraft. Of course, spellcraft is capped at 10 (or 12 if you buy two points after training 10), whereas mage spells is not capped (or if it is the cap is higher than I've gotten to), so you can keep increasing it after you've maxed out spellcraft. But, you may be better served by increasing other skills, e.g., hardiness and resistance for better defense.

Thank you. My spellcraft is well below 10 for all characters, even thouth I have some with mage/priest spells at over 20. I will max out spellcraft before putting in any more points.

  5. There are 5 dragons.

    There are hundreds of drakes.

Sulferas' greeter calls her a drake. (either an insult, or indicating they are the same thing)

Athron had baby drakes. (indicating drakes are baby dragons)

The chasm drake is said to be "as big as a dragon" (indicating drakes are not dragon)

there are probably more inconsistencies there, I am really confused as to whether drakes are baby dragons or something else.

  6. How far can I get into each of the 3 ending's quests before I block the others?

I am rather a completionist but I would hate to get locked out of the endings I actually want because I went too far down the wrong path.

I also have not managed to find anything about the endings except that there are 3 of them, each has a quest.

I am guessing one is to kill hawthorne for the scimatar, one is to serve thantria loyally and receive a pardon from the emperor, and the third is to just escape to the surface...

  7. I cleared out "giant's castle" (which is on a river) and it did not contain a boat. (well almost cleared, there is one barrier that resists remove barrier 2)

Actually, after you go through the Waterfall Warren you don't need the boat to get to Khoth or Erica. You can fly over the water.

Nice, I will try this now

EDIT: Ok I see now, you find a key in the giant's castle which is then used on world map to unlock a gate just east of it which leads to boats.

  8. I keep on coming across barriers I can't dispell with dispell barrier 2 as well as places that look like you need to be able to fly to get the secrets therein.

There are too many of them for me to remember too and no easy way to record them in game.

I looked it up and you get dispell barrier 3 from khoth, thats all fine and well and there are tons of maps of his lair and discussions of the issues within but I have yet to find a single shred of info as to where his lair is actually located in the world map, and how to reach it (boats, locked gates, etc on the path there).

Also, where is the flight sphere and how to get it...

I would really really like to do a surgical strike to grab those 2 things ASAP so I have as few dungeons as possible to double back unto to search for missed stuff... as well as to have the ability to properly lawnmow future dungeons.

EDIT: I was sure lawnmowing was a well known term but for some reason I cannot find any reference to it on google or TV tropes. It refers to fully clearing out earlier stages of every single thing so you never have to double back to them.

  9. I am referring more to the non random encounters.

The female human mage directing ... goblins I think to dig a tunnel south of silvar (across river).

The giant fisherman village, the giant village near that. The aranea queen.

The random encounters I get, they are just random. Its the non random ones I am curious about. I keep worrying that if I kill them I miss out on a quest related to them later on
