  1. I'm just curious, but I'm wondering if dialogue changes in any games (except Geneforge, obviously) if you play it with just one character? If so, which ones? I'm finishing up Avernum 6 for the second time and I noticed that there was a rather amusing easter egg if you kill all the 'elite' lizard troopers that were blockading that one city up north, instead of bypassing them. I got let straight in the front gate by a bewildered guard. I kind of regret not staying in the slith city and seeing if I could kill all of them or if the reinforcements were infinite. I was wondering what other neat little dialogue things like that there were. For example, I know someone mentioned that there's a change if you beat avadon's boss with one character (and an additional change, supposedly, if you do that on nightmare? I cant remember).
  2. So if the vahanati go into hibernation to avoid the death of their civilization via the caves resources crapping out, and the humans leave in 6 due to their magical mushroom solution failing.... how on earth are the lizard people not only surviving, but strong enough for a minor barbarian faction to repeatedly assault exile in army-sized engagements?
  3. I really hope you're not referring to the Dervish that tried to kill me after I left the land of the anti-magic loonies.
  4. I've been playing Avernum 5 for about two weeks (woe to those of us who only have an hour or two a day of spare time on week days), and have finally gotten past the vahanati lands to the dragon's keep. Supposedly Dorikas is just past his land, but I've heard that a lot. Also, at what point will I have to choose sides? I managed to convince Ruth to talk to Dorikas about me(thanks Solberg! though it was hilarious how you can taunt him about stealing his scrolls - 'Solberg is suitably enraged'), but I want to see both endings without having to play an additional ten hours and hope I haven't already locked myself down a set path. Oh, and Melanchion is hilariously naive. I love how he was written.
  5. Aha, you were right. Don't know how I missed that. Usually I step on every rune I find just to see what it does. Thanks.
  6. Hm, is it at the ruined fort? Can't find the secret entrance. Cleared the lich out of Erika's tower and ran all around it, same with the ruined fort.
  7. I just beat Avernum 4, but apparently never found the lair of the darkside loyalists or their leader. I swear I looked everywhere, and aside from one gate in the southern abyss that I couldn't figure out how to pass I have no idea where they'd be. I'm wanting to go back and do that quest, if only because description for Avernum 5 mentions Dorikas, and that's the guy I was trying to find. Where are they?
  8. First time playing Avernum 4 and I'm finding navigating the world to be a bit... strange. Are the world map and the town maps one in the same? I can't say I much care for it. Do Avernum 5 and 6 do this as well? I'm used to Exile and Avernum: Escape from the Pit (and Nethergate). It seems more difficult to navigate to the edge of the map and then move it than it was in Escape from the pit.
  9. I side 99% with Mitt Romney on practically everything. http://www.isidewith.com/results/28115534 A lot of the options aren't right wing enough for me though. I consider myself a centrist since I'm pretty far left when it comes to the economy but I go equally as far to the right when social issues brought up. Neither party really appeals to me at all. I want good ol' centrist fascists please failing that some honest politicians would be nice(haha funny joke right?). Glad to see that 69% of my state agrees with me on some of the important things though. I would have answered more questions but my internet work is slow.
  10. I'm convinced that my problem was now my level. I just finished the Final Gauntlet, Emperor Hawthorne and Grah Hoth all with relative ease. My characters are all over level 30.
  11. Question - I got the 3rd level from Koth's lair without doing any sort of quest. He mentioned losing a scroll but got angry when I offered to get it back for him. Implied that I'd steal it myself what with me being a filthy human and all. Is that normal?
  12. Yeah, I found the pools after I killed him. Wouldn't have mattered though, I had plenty of invulnerability and speed burst items, it was just that he soaked up so much damage and kept two-shotting my glass cannon warrior.
  13. So I've been slogging my way through Avernum: Escape from the Pit trying to do every single side quest I can get my grubby little mitts on, and a while back I ran into a particularly mean little critter named Drath. Nastiest lich creature I've dealt with so far, and made the revenge obsessed spirits in the haunted cave near the tower of magi (or was that the town of lei-something?) look like a pushover. It took me every single energy potion both of my spellcasters had stockpiled up until this point and half of my return life scrolls (my priest was also casting it rather frequently) and I still barely managed to kill the thing. Later on I had finally reached Brahsk and cleared out the nearby giants with relative ease, and found myself face to face with an overgrown lizard with an distasteful dispotion towards adventurers named Pyrog. She wanted to kill me and the feeling was mutual. It was over fast and without having to use a return to life spell/scroll or even a single energy potion. I'm wondering if I've just leveled to the point where most enemies will no longer be even remotely challenging (my characters are roughly level ~26 last time I checked) or if Drath was just obscenely difficult compared to Pyrog.
  14. Oh I know they're supposed to be like that, I find their condescending attitudes hilarious (it also makes it much more gratifying to kill one of them) and I even understand it. After a few hundred years of tiny, quick lived things trying to kill you for your body parts or treasure you'd probably not have a very high opinion of them either. Especially when you kill thousands and thousands of them and they still keep on coming. It'd be comparable to a human dealing with a roach infestation. I just wonder if there are any nicer ones that I haven't run across. I swear I remember freeing one in Exile 3 that wasn't completely rude.
  15. I've played all of Exile 1-3, Blades of Exile & Avernum, and the first bits of Avadon and Geneforge 1 on a friends computer. One thing I've noticed in every single one of these games is that dragons tend to be gigantic jerks. Whether it's trying to eat you right when you meet, or eat you later, or imply that they'd eat you if they could or even just regarding you as something inferior that they wouldn't lower themselves in order to eat they're simply not very nice. The single exception to this is/was Motrax(Mortrax?). I'm just wondering if there are any others I missed who weren't condescending and arrogant giant lizards.
