Most of this group's armor was damaged beyond use in the fight, but the captain's fine steel helmet is still intact, as is one shield. Each member of the defeated group only had about one days' worth of food, but your group is smaller so the total will extend your food supply by two days (giving a total of four, IIRC) Finally, in a pocket under the captain's armor, you find a commission identifying him as Captain Petre in the Fourth Cavern Corps, and orders which read as follows: A gazer and its band of humanoid slaves have attacked a group of registered inhabitants south-southwest of Bargha, approx. 10 miles west of mile marker 60 on the Bargha-Spire road. You and the unit under your command are requested and required to hunt down this creature before it does any further damage. Survivors of the creature's attack reported seeing it move south; after destroying the creature, you will investigate the possibility that it was moving to join with Scimitar elements known to be active in that area. General Karnold Commanding, 4th Cavern Corps Bargha, 17th Frost Log of session 2 coming soon.
  2. The next session is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, January 14th, unless Sylae shows up and it doesn't work for her.
  3. Nalyd, fill out the calendar so I can schedule the next session. Originally Posted By: Nioca Also, any word on the looting or the next session? Calendar: http://whenisgood.net/39iyqjf We'll handle looting in this thread soon. Sylae, if you're out there, drop me a line and let me know if you're still in this.
  6. Nikki, I still need a level from Arabella. Just over 24 hours, everyone. Remember, one player (Rowen) can't make it, so if anyone's interested in subbing as Pepper the worrying wizard, they should come to SWAbyss at 8:00PM EST tomorrow.
  7. Hey guys, it's the log for Session 1! Originally Posted By: quotes! Albert: "Oh look, the Empire politely invites you to surrender so that they don't have to work as hard to kill us." Our food supplies are adequate and we have no need to devour you at this time." Arabella: "You probably want to stamp that out while you still have one good leg." Pepper: "I am, umm, sorry that I am, ermm, a fugitive." I say to the broken leg man. Urgdnebbot: "There is no safe place in the caves." Remember, session 2 is this Wednesday, the 28th, at 8PM EST! Also, Nikki, you still need to level up Arabella.

  9. Sadly, Triumph has bowed out of the campaign. Sylae is taking his place with the character above.
  10. The next session is Wednesday, December 28th! Sorry Rowen, but we don't have a date on which everyone is available until January 11th. Log and quotes coming soon.
  11. Dear sir or madam, I've done my best, but I fear I cannot, in fact, deal with your honesty. At the first word I turned red and started to sweat. I fanned myself and clutched at my pearls to keep my cool, but soon I started to get dizzy. Finally, at the conclusion of your post, I fainted, and had to be revived with smelling salts. My doctors have advised me not to attempt anything so rash again, and to expose myself to honesty in smaller, gentler doses until I have built up enough of a tolerance to handle pure, unadulterated honesty of the kind you typically display. As this is, as you noted above, entirely my problem, I will not be so presumptuous as to ask you to modify your posting style in any way. Instead, I will politely ignore you until such time as it is safe for me to read your posts. If I never respond to you again, please do not be offended, as I will be holding back purely for the sake of my health.
  12. Rowen and Nikki, you still owe me backstories! Try to have them before we start tomorrow. Spectators, come to SWAbyss at 8:00PM EST tomorrow night!

It's good that Alorael told Erasmus not to do that again, but shouldn't we be explaining why what he said was hurtful and unacceptable? Maybe "battle" is the wrong word, but just letting these things go is wasting a potential teachable moment.

  17. Click to reveal.. Lephista 22/22 HP, 10/10 stamina Magic (Conjuration): 13 Composure: 7 First Aid: 6 (+1 racial) Athletics: 4 Melee (Aikido): 4 Magic (Abjuration): 3 Alchemy: 3 Arcana: 2 Acrobatics: 2 Perception: 1 Stealth: 1 2 points banked Conjuration Spells: * Brafdyk's Mystic Succor: Heals a single target. * Firin's Limitless Resources: Summons a basic, no-frills version of most any object. May cost stamina, depending on the object. * Lephista's Enhanced Avian: Summons a bird, of a species of Lephista's choice, intelligent and capable of speech. * Tirge's Bound Foe: Causes a net of rope-like vines to appear around the target, immobilizing it. * Choking Cloud: Covers the battlefield in opaque black smoke. Enemies will lose stamina over time if they remain in the cloud, but party members and their friends will not. All attacks aimed into or out of the cloud suffer a penalty to hit. Anyone inside gets a bonus to stealth and a penalty to perception. * Seline's Dread Cloud: Conjures a cloud of thin, yellowish, poisonous fog. The fog is thin enough to be seen through normally, but will do damage over time to anything that breathes inside it. *Lemele's Miraculous Rejuvenation (epic): Restores the entire party to full health, and cures any negative status effects. Stamina cost is equal to the number of healing spells it would have taken to heal everyone, up to a maximum of 9. *Ruxin's Winged Flight (epic): All targets gain sprout a pair of feathered wings, and gain the ability to fly for a number of minutes equal to the caster's Conjuration skill. Costs 1 stamina per target *Wall of Missiles (epic): The caster launches a volley of leaden slingstones at the enemies confronting her. Costs 1 stamina per target beyond the first. Abjuration Spells: *Mystic Trumpet: Raises an alarm if a creature enters the warded area. *Repulsive Aura: Creates a field around the target that's very discomforting to everything nearby. Creatures will avoid the target, even in combat. Techniques: * Forearm hold: Lephista grabs the elbow and wrist of an opponent and forces their arm down, making it difficult for them to attack or move until they break the grip. An exceptional success may also cause them to drop anything they were holding with that arm. Costs 1 stamina, and may require more to maintain the hold against a determined attempt to break free * Hip throw: Lephista grabs an opponent and throws them backwards over her shoulder. They take more damage than a normal attack, and land on their back on the square behind her. Costs 1 stamina.

  19. The party is complete! Session 1 will be Tuesday, December 13 at 8:00PM EST! Players and spectators, mark your calendars!
  20. Reminder, the pre-campaign mini-session for creating/tweaking characters in in 90 minutes! Non-players are welcome to come if they want.

My issue with that justification is that as soon as Hands showed up, Cahil and his people pulled out. He was only sticking with the job when it wasn't directly against Avadon. A bit of a grey area, for sure, and there are lots of opportunities in this game to lean to your preferred side of those greys. I think Diki has it right, actually. The story seems to suggest that first the encounter in Jhereth Deeps happened, then Cahil went and got his pardon, so it would cover whatever he was doing in the Deeps. On the other hand, his men attacked you when you entered their White Plains hideout, which seems like it ought to void the pardon. Cahil's in command of them, so he's responsible for what they do.
  22. This discussion of the new magic system has been both useful and interesting to me, but I think it's better suited to the metathread. Let's keep this one for the campaign. Speaking of which, don't forget the pre-campaign session is tomorrow (Tuesday) night!

I think summoning, teleporting around the battlefield, and altering terrain are all excellent tricks for a battlemage. A pure wizard would take a little more creativity, but I still think anyone could make it work. It's possible that, in my efforts to bring the two strongest schools (Conjuration and Transmutation) into line, I've gone too far in the other direction. If so, I'd hardly be the first balancer to make that mistake. We'll see how it plays out in the campaign.

I just hate seeing my past character concepts neutered into uselessness in the name of balance. Well, dropping people on rocks was hard, anyway. I'd hate to ruin a past character, too, but I doubt that's the case. If Phulax ever comes back in a campaign I'm running, I'm sure he can be tweaked so he's still fun to play.
