Thank you so much, I was convinced i'd broken the game. As an aside - i found the escape route, got the announcement about having done one ofnthebthree great quests, but the quest is still in my log. I reloaded and tried with both choices, same thing. Any ideas?

Positive, first place I checked after a similar thing with the onyx scepter. To clarify i was looking for it in the big chamber where adze haakai died, in the little room with a bookshelf and a couple of squares of lava.

I can't find it! I scoured the magi tower, gave up, found a FAQ that told me where it ought to be, went back there, and still nothing. If it's glitched I have no problem starting again, I'm just so into this game at the moment I don't want to break my stride. Can anyone confirm the athames location?
