  1. Well, my first time playing Exile my party died of starvation ... not pretty. Early on in the first two Exile games I had a nasty habit of stumbling into Giant Lizards and Fire Lizards, who made short work of young parties.
  2. I haven't played Frostbite ... Emulations Quintessence Redemption Tomorrow Tatterdemalion Masks Echoes: Renegade Bahssikava Is what I think right now ... my CSR ranking is/was: Quintessence Emulations Tatterdemalion Redemption Tomorrow Masks Echoes: Renegade Bahssikava
  3. And that spiny aura spell works wonders when you're ambushed or fighting shades.

In the end, I think I might have gone for more golden crystals or other resistances, since those were my main sources of taking damage anyway. Also, drips acid is by far the best weapon enhancement.
  5. I'd also suggest loading up on Discipline Wands, because they'll do around 200 damage to some enemies that are resistant to almost everything. Most useful spells: Essence Blade (before battles) Acid Spray (damages all enemies, probably don't want to use w/ daze) Lightning Aura (persistent damage) Kill (can do 400 damage) Burning Spray Ice Spray (especially in endgame) You can be doing 200+ persistent damage to bosses and let them die from lightning, acid, and poison while you attack their friends. Mix in Daze, Strong Daze, and Mass Madness, depending on skill level. Be able to cure yourself of acid/poison effectively - it will take more of your HP than physical attacks and is on par with breathing. Also, never underestimate the power of luring enemies away from their friends and groups. Taking them on one/two at a time is easy and you will never be overwhelmed.

This was not a build that I created intentionally - it was developed as the game went on, so there are some wasted skill points.
  7. It was probably because I always used the slimes as my beginning area and was way overpowered for Upper Exile. There is that cool Bon-Ihrno experience pool though. But why would you go to visit some undeveloped caves when you can see the SURFACE for the first time?
  8. I always thought that Upper Exile sucked ... and the troglo/giant plague was my second most fun, next to the roaches. Doing the troglo "peace" mission, and going to the barrier cave were lots of fun.
  9. But Shockwave did unblockable damage, so the fact that it wasn't a lot of damage doesn't matter as much. Wound was definitely my go-to spell for 3/4 of the game and against tough opponents.
  10. I love this thread! Quote: "The spells in the Avernum games suck. Nobody likes them." Never was a truer statement written. Goo - fun but not particularly useful Conflagration - found it much more useful in later replays, especially since stupid monsters run through it Spray Fields - another fun fields spell! Stumble - nice try Holy Scourge - way to not live up to your billing ... wish we could cast Unholy Ravaging like Evil High Priests Mass Sanctuary - I actually used this a lot with my priest casting it at the end of turns so only mages could hit the party
  11. Anaximander unzips his robe and steps from it. His body is much better developed than you would have thought. The reward for your long, hard adventures is at hand You rapidly convert to Catholicism. The demons flee in horror.
  12. Personally, I love Exile's interface and skill/spell/combat system. And you can actually see what each character is supposed to look like!

  15. Basilisk will work! Try it out. I'm running Exile III on 64 bit.
  16. Re: Exile III 20 Strength, 20 Assassination, 20 Pole Weapons. Can't be beat! I'm not sure, but does assassination even come into play on the second swing?
  17. In BoE maybe, but in Exile III it wasn't nearly as simple as you make it sound. Black (or Enchanted) Halberd does much more damage than dual-wielding.
  18. We could always have that food requirement again ... worse than Skribbane withdrawal! I remember dying of starvation the first time I played Exile I ...
  19. Unbound are also not resistant to magic, so I like to stand out of range of their area of effect spells and pump them with acid, essence lance, and kill.
  20. I ran the Agent fine without ever Shaping a single creation.
  21. Do you have Strong Daze? Also, armor is super helpful. Most melee enemies were doing less than 15 damage to me at the end of the game, including rothidzons. Pump your strength and get an enchanted shaper breastplate or something. You can also pick off groups of enemies one at a time by only getting seen by one of them, then running away. Usually only one, maybe two will follow you. Then you can deal with them separately.
  22. It looks like your stats are pretty decent - but if you're having trouble with main quests (Taygen's area is HARD), level up to around 45 first by doing a lot of sidequests. Get the powerful items that help you. Read the posts about item crafting. You might want to improve strength and endurance to make you more durable. Also, use burning spray and acid rain a lot. Ice spray does a lot of damage to magic resistant creations usually. Lightning aura is really useful. And Kill is great - with Essence Blade, it can do 400 damage. And don't forget about spells like Daze, Dominate, and Mass Madness. They provide a lot of respite from crowds. Are you dying against single enemies or in group battles where you get swarmed?
  23. Thuryl, I *just* tested it. You hit them, you get the "xxx was covered in acid" message, and they get lingering acid damage (60+ points).
