  1. I agree. The scouring of the Shire would have been very anti-climatic for the movies. I enjoyed that part of the book very much, but it would not translate well into the films. I look at the movies and the books as seperate entities, more or less. Peter Jackson didn't always follow the book exactly, but that's ok, the movies were still good. Douglas Adams pretty much made four remakes of the same story, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. First a radio show (tell me if I get the order wrong), then the books, then the television show, then the movie. They weren't all the same, but each was good by itself.
  2. Me too. If you do move it, though, post the link. It's a good read.
  3. Well I'm terribly misinformed. Sorry. Still, it is true that there is more violence in movies and games. Especially gory, graphic violence.
  4. I meant compared to perhaps 30 or 40 years ago.
  5. People have less inhibitions these days, it seems, and are saturated with violence on a daily basis. I suppose too, that some people just don't know how to control their anger or violent tendencies.
  6. Heh. Yeah. I suppose when I said a sound strategy, I meant a simple strategy. AoE is kind of like chess, certain moves and units are better than others, period. The risk in that game is not doing the right thing to beat your enemy. The risk in Wesnoth is that all your guys or the key units in your plan will miss over and over. You're right though, when making a plan in Wesnoth, you have to take into account the probability of units hitting their targets. It's just that sometimes even the best of plans can fail, which is irritating.
  7. I am undecided on this issue. I really enjoy games like Age of Empires, where, basically, if your strategy is sound you will win the battle. In Wesnoth, you will probably defeat your enemy with a better strategy, but sometimes you just can't hit the right units or something similar (For this reason, in Wesnoth, I try to make sure I always have extra units that can attack in case the front liners keep missing). It is fun to have that element of risk with an RNG, and it forces you to adapt in case your tactic fails. However, I also like having a sound game plan that I know will work, which is easy in a game like AoE.
  8. Got any different prompts? If not, I will try the third option. Just got to learn something about Kentucky...
  9. Humans are the only ones that have invaded the eighth continent. The internet. (A country in that continent, Facebook, rivals other lands with its huge population of over 800,000,000 members. The small country of Spiderweb Software Forums grows steadily larger, however, and currently holds only some 600 shy of 10,000 members!)
  10. Ants? Bees? Termites? Humans?
  11. That was it. Thanks, I wouldn't have guessed that was it. Now I'll have to get used to the game going a little slower.
  12. BoA has a problem on my computer. Terrain graphics that are supposed to switch between four frames (like the waterfall terrain) don't work. I can't find anything in the game settings that would cause this. Floor graphics work just fine, but not terrain. Can anyone explain this?

Having three weapon types would mean more sacrifices, and less artifacts one could actually use, assuming the number of weapon artifacts in the entire game stayed the same. Other games (I'm thinking Skyrim) have this problem too. Since it is a waste to specialize in all weapon types, it would be irritating to have too many to choose from.

  15. Ok. The problem is that parties from a average level range of about 10-18 can't enter either scenario. I made a little bit of script that levels all the monsters to about your party's level at the beginning. For some reason it has a problem with parties of the above level range. Jerakeen pointed this out to me in betatesting, but I couldn't fix the problem. Sorry, I forgot to warn about it.
  16. Awesome. This should be required reading for all new members to the forum.
  17. I am now releasing two small scenarios: Battle for Gale( Mac / Windows ): You have been hastily recruited by the Empire to defend Gale from a horde of golems. One single battle, where you can command your soldiers. Playground for the Pyromaniac( Mac/Windows ): You are rebels assigned to destroy a small Empire fort. Equipped with the most powerful magical explosives available, you are to reduce the town and its occupants to dust. Please rate my scenarios. Thank you. Thanks to the Beta-testers: Nightwatcher and Jerakeen. Also thanks to Tyranicus for hosting and converting these two scenarios. Email me at cptcharls01@gmail.com for comments, complaints, bugs, or if you have trouble downloading. Enjoy.
  18. Anyone ever play Riskopoly? It combines the good points of Risk and Monopoly. After that, I like Catan and Diplomacy, though I've only played the latter once.
  19. I play on an old Windows XP computer, so my game lags. I usually only play Creep Wars, Colusseum, or really small maps. Otherwise my turns take forever, which is irritating for me and everyone else. By the way, I'll be on today till about 9 or so.
  20. Aahh! I got Minion, and it told me to go to the nearest Evil Overlord! Does that mean I have to report to Dintiradan?
  21. How about another Randomized contest? I liked the idea of that when I saw it.
  22. Now where is Avadon going to fit into all of this?
  23. Does Nethergate: Resurrection have the new interface of Avernum 4 and up?
