  1. Sorry, didn't know that there were rules. Certainly don't want to be frowned upon. I didn't even notice the dates and just thought it would be better to use an existing thread than start a new one. I have seen times when people were criticized for starting a new thread without doing a search first. Thank you for your quick condemnation. I will be very careful in the future.
  2. Always keep an eye out for the secret door buttons. I just went back to the bat caves near formello which I had previously finished. I noticed a button on the wall I didn't remember, it opened up another pretty large cave which, unfortunately for me contained higher level monsters than just bats, whole team got killed. Love surprises like that.
  3. It seems to me that no more than 1 or 2 squares when not in combat. and who searches in combat anyway? Avadon is much better this way, searches large area with the 'g' button. There is a lot of good stuff on the ground and one of my main gripes is looking--move a little hit the 'g' then hit the cancel button, move a lttle hit the 'g' then the cancel again, over and over!!! Even on the highest resolution I can see only a few of the things on the ground and sometimes when nothing shows on the screen you find a goodie. You need money and you can get it by selling the things you find on the ground but eventually the 'g' is going to fall off my keyboard.
  4. Thanks, understand now. some randomness just makes things more interesting.
  5. If all experience is divided up among the 4 characters equally after every battle, why is my priest always a little behind? They are all at level 6 and the priest has never been killed. When I get to level 7 the other 3 will level up but not the priest until the next battle. The priest is a pure spellcaster and never directly engages the enemy so I don't think that I could have forgotten about him getting killed once and besides I'm only at level 6. Any idea?
  6. Actually I was in the Beraza pit area. Overall I did like the game and thought of starting over but was daunted by the level cap, skill tree, and the immense distances, indoor and outdoor, to travel with very little to discover. Just clicking and moving, clicking and moving. Very few enemies, but I guess that's because of the level cap too. Otherwise you would reach the level cap too soon. The story and writing are very good too. Oh well, now to try Avernum the Pit.
  7. Lilith: just saw your post. Yes I jacked my strength way up. 45 I think.
  8. Dunno, tried it again and got the same result. I have kind of lost interest since finding out that I could not go above 8 on the ranged skill. I am partial to bows and usually like to play the ranger but in Avadon you are forced into building both skills. My first frustration was learning that I had to have the healing skill up to 8 to progress. I didn't want to spend any points on healing! Jeff, pay attention, I want choices. If I screw up my game because of my poor choices then I can try again. That's the fun of it.
  9. I just tried an experiment. At level 10 I can kill a rat in two turns with my melee character. So I saved and reloaded game to same spot then retrained up to level 30. Same rat took two turns to kill again. Tried this several times. You would think that with greatly increased strength I could kill the rat with one turn now. Am I simple or something? BTW- I don't like the level cap or the skill tree. What choices do you have on the tree except to build up from the bottom until you get to the top.? Very little!
  10. Thanks for the help. Lilith you were right, wordpad did the job. As for the switches, I can't imagine anyone wanting to scroll over every possible wall surface looking for the switches. I wouldn't call these cheats, just improvements to the game!!! I remember Avernam 1 where you had to bump into the walls everywhere to find the hidden doors. That was really boring and I soon stopped looking. Thanks again.
  11. The search function just takes me to avitemschars. Clicking on that gives me a screen completely full of print with no order at all, certainly not numbered. It doesn't look like the other file at all . You can scroll down and over but all you see is the entire screen filled with what looks to me of course like nonsense. looking for ' begindefineitem 14' is like looking for a needle in a haystack. avobjsmisc was just a column to scroll down until I found 202 and 203- easy.
  12. Windows-- Went to avitemschars.txt to find lockpicks/tools. what a mess. How did you find lockpicks/tools without reading every line which would take forever? I had no trouble with switches, but this........
  13. It's understandable why Jeff doesn't read these forums- he's too busy designing games. I am kind of surprised at how many games he has managed to turn out considering his almost one man operation. I certainly can't complain about that, I like his games.

Glad to hear that was all it meant. I thought it could have been a family tradgety or something.

    Nov. sadness?

Just ordered Avadon at your ridiculously low price. Thanks for the deal. But what is the November sadness sale? Why the sadness?
