  1. Thanks, I got DesktopUtility after you mentioned it, unfortunately it doesn't help much. I found a Spiderweb folder in Library but there were Avernum savings only. Maybe problem is there's an Admin and another user on my Mac, I don't know, what is for sure is that I can't find the new saved games as well, even if I'm playing them. Strange.

  2. The Vanathai shall be "a hard bone to gnaw", literally translating what we use to say here (they were helpful guys in Avernum 6, weren't they?).

I also hope to find active whips, it's too bad whips are not weapons in Spiderweb Games... I know, maybe they would be too much Indiana Jones taste for a Fantasy game but, it might be thrilling to slash a Slith chief or an Ogre mage grin

  3. Thanks, I transfered Avadon manually from the old Mac to the new one, so it's hard the computer placed or copied by itself saved games folder in a different place than Applications folder (that is where they are now). I mean, the new games might be where you write but old ones are in the Applications folder and don't work.

However there's no "Containers" folder anywhere on my Mac, according to manual search and Spotlight.

There's a "Sandbox" folder in Library and it's empty.

Do you think I could recover the saved games placing them elsewhere or it would be a loss of time?

  4. I passed Avadon and saved games on a OSX 10.7.2 (Lion), they are in the exact position in Applications folder, that is where they were on the other Mac, but Avadon application doesn't show them at start. I read that with Lion the saved games folder should be placed somewhere else... where, please?

  5. I'm not much into computer games, except for Spiderweb ones, so the statement is "Great Game" comparing to other Avernums and Avadon, which I liked the most before AEFTP.

I began playing Escape from the Pit on December 18th, played intensively and with a little help from my friends I finished it today. There would be much to say but it was said already, and much I already forgotten, however one thing is for sure: it was as a trip that was really worth to.

Only one minor criticusm I have and that's about the written story after the end of the three main quests. I expected to find detailed and customized highlights as in Avadon, where i.e. if you killed or not killed Zephyrine the general situation and conditions of the Lands was told to be different. The Avadon end-after-the-end intrigued me in the way I was pushed to have another go and try to literary better or however differently shape the future.

In AEFTP this detailed and customized end is partly missing. I wouldn't say that Avadon end story was "useful" because you couldn't change a thing of your playthrough, but it was a, say, fullfilment, and I am a bit disappointed not to find the same commitment here.

I'm definetely lost with the fifth brooch.
I collected four, have been to the surface, killed the Emperor and... you know how it ends with only four brooch, damn.
Problem is I don't remember where were some of the brooch so I don't know the place for the missing one. I could always visit all the places you kindly wrote about but it's a lot of time.
I own the Ivory, Platinum, Pearl, Malachite brooch. Please tell me where the last one is.
  7. I've done main quests in a different sequence, as a not enterely intentional result of the aim to follow a most linear path in game. So I finished Final Gauntlet first, then Grah-Hoth quest and I avoided to take quests in Blosk and Almaria until these main ones were over.

Now that even those minor quests are over, I can't remember where to find some items and a person, in quests I already have been through in a previous, interrupted and not saved playthrough.

    1) Can't find Demel in Blosk (Savage Gardening). I searched the area throughly and I suspect he's not in Blosk. Where is he?

    2) I found the Ivory, Platinum, Pearl brooch. I still miss two of them.

    3) Have five crystals to repair Crystal cave, I miss one.

    Thanks!

  8. I use to do the very same with the "leg-up" in the beginning of all Avernum games, so the party gets XP and reach a stats/skills/traits standard quicker.

I noticed weapons are less effective comparing to other Avernum and Avadon, as well, at least until about two third of the game, when the sum of traits plus special weapons bonus contribute to build a dual wielding character that here is really more effective than a pole warrior.

Pole warrior was not the best fighter in Avernum 6 but the gap in Escape from the Pit is wider; here you can use two swords, one blade hitting the main foe and also another close to him, and the other sword hits once adding special features as fire, so sometimes you strike three times in one hit the main foe with side effect too. All this while the pole warrior is stucked with a main hit, the side foe one and his stikes are weaker, in terms of points.

Archer special items and bonus are good and very few foes are immune to the side effect of a Lightning bow. For this reason, quest after quest I understood I better have given magical war skills to more that one or two party members, and

I was however so used to rely more upon magic that Runeward Bones in Grah-Hoth place put me in serious troubles.

Magical skills seem to be far more effective, vital and costful in Escape from the Pit, I honestly don't understand how to give higher magical skills to everyone in the party without cheating more than a bit with money.

  9. I noticed two minor quests I left behind were cut from the quests menu, after the end of the Grah-Hoth main quest, like to find a guy to deliver something to and a different one to collect a bounty. Some minor quests are still in place, I mean those which don't really end, such as the iron bars or the ale one.

I did not meet any in game warning about this inconvenient fact, maybe there is one?

In Avadon there's a warning before entering last part of the game, which well indicates how proceeding means to loose the quests still to complete, or anything else you where up to untill then, because the place is a physical point of no return.

In Escape from the Pit you can go where you like after Grah-Hoth quest, so I don't understand why is it like this.

Then I own 18 wisdom crystals to use, good to know! smile

With regard to the Vanathai, look for a place far NW (level 3 dispel barrier) and you could get a very good piece of armor... wink
  11. I saved 18 for a different reason, my game is not finished yet (Final Gauntlet done, Grath-Hoth close to the end), however I collected them because from time to time in game there's people talking about a wizard gone mad trying to use crystals to revert the teleport and escape tothe surface. I'm not that sure they referred to wisdom crystals but I held them, you know, just in case.

Now, if there's another way to use them I would like to understand how it works, and sorry I am not sure I understood what you are going to get, why, when and how you "buy them out" in the mentioned village to obtain "the restock".

  12. Thanks Jeff, Escape from the Pit is a masterpiece *

I saved the game seconds ago before confronting Grah-Hoth in his throne room, and took a picture.

I won't forget this thrilling moment, when Time is suspended and my Party focus on their best skills getting ready to fight.

I took three pictures along the way, another one in Sulfras place, of she and her fourteen demons; and the draw of the surface after Final Gauntlet, a precious moment.

    * and it is affordable too cool
