That sounds like a cop out to me. Even if you can't treat a gunshot wound, surely you can sell your luxury items and donate that money to a hospital? Maybe take an orphan in off the street? Hell, there's heaps of stuff you can do, but people won't do it because it inconveniences them.
-
I don't see how that is relevant, given that I'm not the one crying 'Think of the children'. If you care about 'the children', go and actually make an effort to help them, instead of using them as a talking point for your political bias.
-
YES! I reiterate: YES!!! If you genuinely care about a particular topic, you should be willing to act. If you don't act, then you are merely paying the issue lip service. It's all well and good to tell *other people* to give up something they enjoy. But strangely enough, this same person won't actually inconvenience *themselves* to improve the situation. Such people are insincere. Put up or shut up. It's that simple. Put up, or shut up. ξ Nope. But you are much less likely to get shot if you don't antagonise people. That's a fact. Some people would call my strategy of 'not pissing people off' to be self-defense. I don't. Self-defense are actions that protect you when you are actually be attacked (turning your body to avoid a knife thrust hitting vital organs, using a tazer, running away, putting a barrier between yourself and the victim). De-escalating a conflict, or preventing one in the first place, is something different, but just as important. Dr. Tin Your right to life is *not* affected by gun ownership. It is affected by misuse of guns. If gun ownership really bothers you, then move elsewhere. If you're worried about getting shot, act in a manner to reduce your likelihood of getting attacked. Unless you're a gangbanger or soldier, the chance of you getting shot at is neglible.

Geneforge 3: Broken vlish and...

On Gull Island? 50% What advantages does a Shaper have that an Agent doesn't? -
So you're against people defending themselves with a gun because some people who claim they used a gun to act in self defense might not have actually been under threat? Seem like specious argument to me. You're essentially disarming thei population (against their will... typical) because the right to bear arms might be abused by a few. If my life is put in mortal peril, I feel morally justified in taking any means to defend it. Just because there are people in society who are happy to be mown down like sheep does not mean I'm obliged to feel the same way. If you're so worried about kids and gun crime, here's a thought. Sell your PC and house and donate that money to a child who has lost their parents due to gun crime. Or become a doctor and treat young gunshot victims. Or work in one of those social programs where they reform gang members. Otherwise, I'm going to call BS. You don't care about the kids. If you genuinely cared, you'd actually make some sort of self sacrifice, instead of expecting *others* to give up their guns. Gee, how easy it is to expect *others* to reduce their quality of life for your cause, huh! Why not? If you don't stalk, harass, or threaten people, then what do you have to fear? It actually reminds me of the public outrage when a McDonald's worker suggested she might spit in a rude customer's hamburger. Why would you be worried, unless you're a rude customer? Act with a little civility and avoid conflict, and people won't have a reason to feel threatened. The expection to the rule is the occasional person with a mental illness, or a violent career criminal. Yeah yeah, I know, even normal people who have a bad day and are pushed can (rarely) resort to violence. But if you don't get in their faces, that won't be a problem, will it now?
-
<p> Why not? Why is one not permitted to defend themselves from life-threatening harm simply because the assailant is going to beat them to death with their fists, instead of stab them with a knife or shoot them with a gun?As for their kids... stuff em. If my personal safety is on the life, I couldn't care less about some stranger's little bastards.

Geneforge 3: Broken vlish and...
Brocktree replied to Brocktree's topic in Geneforge Series - Originals
I had the same problem with the Vlish for a Shaper with 10 magic shaping. There is no real justification to be a Shaper. Agents can shape almost as well as a Shaper, but also allow you to gain a significant amount of mental magic. Daze is arguably more overpowered than Vlish (Daze autohits and almost always dazes, whereas terror and charm often miss if you don't pump spellcraft to about 15). -
To all the individuals here who want to ban the one means a citizen has to defend themselves, I have to ask. What's your alternative? You can't take away a citizen's means to defend themselves without providing them with another means of defense. Will you provide them with a 24 hour bodyguard service? Will you pay for that? Or will that be another tax-payer funded service?

Yep. And how many battles did they win versus the United States? It wasn't the regular army which caused American soldiers grief. It was the asymmetrical style warfare practiced by the guerrillas (ie. regular citizens who picked up a gun).

Geneforge 3: Broken vlish and...
Brocktree replied to Brocktree's topic in Geneforge Series - Originals
I realise that I misrepresented what Slarty said in his broken vlish thread. He stated that vlish are superior to Tier 3 creations (which they are), not Tier 4 creations. My bad. Anyway, I restarted as an agent and shaped 7 vlish early on. Even though I got them as early as possible (skipping most of the fighting on Greenwood Isle and shooting straight for Diwanya), they have trouble hitting high level enemies on Gull Island. I traded in four vlish for a Rothgroth, and have noticed a massive improvement. The bonus hitpoints and high physical resist you get from a Rotghroth really makes a massive difference. -
Militia are no good against a regular army. That's why America won the war in Vietnam.

Are you contending that bringing in some gun control regulation won't result in successive attempts to bring in even more gun control regulation? Who are you trying to kid? I live in a nation which *has* gone down the slippery slope. We got rid of automatic and semi-automatic weapons, then we had a buyback on handguns, then we got rid of imitation guns, now even toy guns are under scrutiny. Give them an inch, and they will take a mile. Or as the Dutch say, give them a finger and they will take an arm (in Dutch, of course!). Dantius, I expect the police to do their job, which is to enforce the law. If idiot lawmakers ban toy guns, then police officers are paid (from my taxes) to enforce this BS law. Of course a bit of leniency and latitude is nice, given that policing is a human profession. Nevertheless, the core issue is that the law is nonsense.
-
I know of someone whose antique replica pistol was confiscated by police when attending residences for unrelated matters. You might think that your scenario is laughable, but if a cop has a bone to pick, you'd better watch out. Edit: Hell, in America, they arrest kids for opening up lemonade stands: http://mynorthwest.c...ealth-inspector And you think they wouldn't arrest you over a toy gun, if the regulation was in place? LOL.

Who? Huh? Wha? That statement doesn't even make sense, and English is my first language. How can a country do a 'good job'? A good job at what?
-
You're calling me stupid, and you don't even know what country I'm in, and the relevant gun control regulations and restrictions? Talk about jumping the gun.
-
True, the law is unlikely to be enforced unless you go around brandishing a light gun on the street. Then again, who knows. The police might come to your home for an unrelated matter (eg. domestic call) and see the light gun. Yeah, the chances are pretty slim, but it's still ridiculous that this possibility should even exist in a 'free' (hah!) nation.

Despite being a PC loyalist and anti-console gaming snob, my first memories of video gaming was actually playing House of the Dead at the local arcade. There is nothing more fun than testing your reflexes out with a good ole fashioned light gun. Recently I got my hands on House of the Dead for the PC, and have been toying with the idea of purchasing a light gun for it. Unfortunately, apparently anything that even 'looks' like a firearm in my states is restricted. In otherwords, I run the very real risk of being fined/jailed if I possess this accessory. This is where gun control leads, folks. You can't do sweet diddly squat, the nanny state makes every attempt to squeeze the fun out of your life. Oh well, looks like I'll get a fight stick peripheral instead, and play some Street Fighter First Strike instead.

Starting Geneforge 2 Torment Style
Brocktree replied to Cmiller's topic in Geneforge Series - Originals
Magic Shaping is by far the best choice. Eyebeasts are completely overpowered in Geneforge 2, with an aura of flames attack that stunlocks almost everything. This is why they were toned down in Geneforge 3, and the rotghroth ended up being the top Tier 4 creation. -
Because town water tastes terrible! In the country, we used tank water. People turn their noses up at drinking water which has run over roofs, through gutters, into a tank. But it's filtered. And let me tell you, it tastes like actual water. In town, the water has a horrible metallic bleach taste. It's a sad day when you can't even get an unadulterated glass of water.

Geneforge 3: Broken vlish and...
Brocktree replied to Brocktree's topic in Geneforge Series - Originals
There's no way that vlish are more powerful than the fourth tier creations in Geneforge 3. No way. Slarty went a little overboard there. However, they are by far the *best value for essence*. Twenty essence for the ability to slow an enemy (and therefore reduce it's damage by at least half) is outstanding. However, Rothgroths have oodles of health and a hard hitting acid attack in addition to their slow effect. If I could afford it, I'd rather have 7 rothgroths instead of 7 vlish. However, you can't obtain that much essence in game, so you need to compromise. -
Like Alorael said, the only faction who could go toe-to-toe against the Empire would be the vahnatai. However, there is no good justification for the Empire to attack the vahnatai, or vice versa. The Empire has no interest in taking the deep caverns, and the vahnatai have no interested in conquest on the surface. Furthermore, there is no way to fight a conventional war between the two, since they are separated by a massive system of descending tunnels. In Avernum 6's ending, it's mentioned that the Empire fragments due to civil war.

Another member on this forum has perked my interest in Geneforge 3. Geneforge 3 is my least played game in the Geneforge series (although I actually dislike Geneforge 4 far more), so I'm a little rusty. After reading Slarty's thread on broken vlish, I'm doing a run through. Yes, the vlish are indeed broken. However, I've discovered that a second creation is also hideously broken, yet gets next to no recognition. The rotgroths in Geneforge 3 outclass the other 4th tier creations so bad, it's ludicrous. I never realised up until now that they had a slow attack, but this pretty much means that anything they hit is going to miss every second turn (at best). Of course, vlish can do this as well, and for only a fraction of the essence. However, rotgroths inflict acid damage (rarely resisted), and lots of it. Better yet, they have tonnes of health, and high acid and physical resistance. Since you can get them early on Gull island, you have some time to level them up before the endgame. So instead of absorbing your vlish and replacing them with gazers, replace them with a rottie or two instead. Rotties and vlish complement each other perfectly. If you face a magic damaging opponent, have them focus on your vlish, then beat the tar out of them with your rotgroths. If you face a physical damaging opponent, have them focus on your rotgroths, and have your vlish hang back and pelt them with bolts.

Yes, the bug applies to all items that purport to boost creation strength. -
GF2: guardian claymore or puresteel blade
Brocktree replied to Micawber's topic in Geneforge Series - Originals
The stats visibly increase. However, they don't offer the bonus to hit and damage that the increase in strength should. Bonuses to intelligence, dexterity and endurance work fine. To get the puresteel soulblade, you *have* to be a Taker. You get it from a dialogue option with an Eyebeast in the Taker research labs.
