  1. Then thats that. I got stopped at the ogre. My character didnt have enough to beat him. I tried numerous times. Prally better off not playing avadon or avernum series as they are meant for parties. I dont know, avadon takes way too long for me to either lose or win a battle. I remember the average battle taking half an hour. In avernum it sucked too, but at least with avernum it was reasonably ok. Then there's geneforge, the battles last 1 minute. I dont know how everyone else can spend that much time on one major battle. I mean it's one thing if you have a chance to win, but what if you spend 1 hour, thats an hour wasted.

Edit-sorry, this post was meant for another thread.

  3. Well like you said, the only that could write the game would be if the plot makes sense. I still think that what makes the geneforge games so much different than other games is the class system. When they say that each class plays different, they really do mean it. Ive played countless games in the past and the characters say different, but they are all mostly the same.

Adding the 2 middle ground/1 weak area would be new and innovative as you'd get more out of the physical stats, but you'd be more of a jack of all trades which is good i think. Definitely be interesting figuring out the classes for g6.

  4. Im kinda really stuck. I just got into the taker lands and am at the taker toll road. However, there are a freakish amount of really high health rogues to the point where even parry is no match. I may block 5 hits, but when one hits, thats 84 damage from a fireball. I didnt think it would get this hard. My damage barely kills 1 or 2 creations in a swipe. Any suggestions?

  5. I was thinking about possible ways they could bring about a new audience for geneforge. Somehow, the shapers are all gone, beaten by a much stronger side. That side also destroyed the rebels as well. You get the choice to follow the new way, the old shaper way or the rebel way.

-1) New Classes-There will be 3 of each of these guys. They will be average in 2 areas and weak in another. However they get 2 levels of stats-str, dex, etc. and those stats cost 1 less than usual.

-2) 2nd set of new classes. These guys are weak in 2 area and EXTREMELY STRONG in 1 area. The strong area has all skills cost 1 point. They also, being naturally talented, start with 3 levels in general skills.

I would really like for the games to continue as i am running out of ones to play smile

  6. Ok, I am now done with the first party of Aerie. I now have to go against the ogre. I am currently confused however.

    1) It states in the middle column middle skill that that increases wolf level. What else increases their level?

    2) What is the difference between war chant and war blessing? My wolf has one at lvl 3.

3)What exactly do your summons get when you increase their level?

Ive played about 70% of the game and didnt take it seriously with a party and lost interest. Im not really about the party type games. Any game that can be soloed, ill give it a try. I didnt find that the dialogue or companions were that great anyway. I had sevilin and the mage. I found them to lack purpose. If i do play a npc game, its got to be like Baldurs Gate otherwise i lose all interest. The companions were ok, but that and the skill specialization part of the game, need to be worked on in future games. Aside from that, the game is pretty cool.
  8. I am almost done with g2 and i decided that i should give avadon more of a chance. This time i am playing a shaman and solo on normal. I am trying to decide what to do in certain areas of skills. I have heard that dexterity gives bonuses to certain skills like call the wind, etc. However i have noticed that when i added a point to dex, it didnt register more damage under the ability. I was going to only focus on dex and int, but now not so sure.

  9. I am I would guess, almost done with the game. After sacking the facility for zakary, i am now going to sack the barzite facility. I am siding with the the shapers (servants) and to be honest, it makes a lot of sense in a way, at least to me.

Barzites are obviously insane, i havent even met the takers that much and i know they are insane. Then there's the awakened. For this game, i find that the awakened make the least sense. In order for you to deal with a really serious problem like in this game, you have to have real strength, but sensibility with it. And the awakened just dont seem to be capable of holding their own against the others. While the barzites have strength, they are delusional along with the takers. Servants, though they are fake in a sense, are willing to do evil to prevent a lesser evil. It makes sense in this game.

The only thing im gonna say about the difference from g1 and g2, is that alot has changed. My parry is only 12 and i am taking on mages that would normally destroy me in g1. Its a good thing, but the guardian can really be too over the top. Once im done with this, i am anxiously awaiting g3. Bet things have changed yet again.

  10. You know what the problem is, i dont have enough parry, quick action and even more so, enough chance to hit. I could easily remedy that with more points into blades, but soon blades will cost too much as well as parry already costing too much. I might have to boost endurance or possibly luck even though i dont want to. Im not sure really. Luckily, like everyone sais, the guardian is a tank.

But having several drayks and an overpowered defensive strategy are not mutually exclusive.

They aren't mutually exclusive, but my argument is that you are better off picking one strategy or the other (offense blast vs defense bottleneck). You argue you are better off mixing. I think at this point we're just repeating the same things to each other. We can keep doing more and more permutations, I can explain how the 100 damage the drayk does is not the point, you can explain how you think it is, we won't get anywhere.

I know what you are trying to say and i get it. There is no use going back and forth. But guardians still in my opinion should have at least 1 ally when surrounded by more than 3 enemies. Maybe im not playing right, but when i get surrounded by 5 battle alphas, Im a guardian, ive only got healing spells and minor blessing spells, i dont really have many other choices. At least not to my knowledge. Ive only played the 1st game and this one so far, so I dont know.

The reason being that guardians still are average at shaping, so why does the agent do melee which she is average at, when she is great at magic? Why bother. The guardian is said to be able to shape decently, yet he cant branch out at all. It makes no sense as in g1 a guardian can be decent in shaping. Ill say again, 3 shaping classes, of the 3 only 1 shapes. That makes no sense and thus agents and guardians shouldnt be called shapers if they dont use it.
  13. I have a parry of 8 and my sword skill and quick action is 8 too. I am lvl 15 and playing on norm. I find that i cant beat the serviles that wield acid batons as they nearly 1 shot ko me. The reason why i might need to put points into dex is because i only have 20% acid res. Parry is good but i want to find a side like the barzites that i can join and reap the battle training benefits. The only side that gives good training so far is awakened. Servants dont give good training and its becoming a chore to reach barzahl.

Ive been trying to reach barzahl and have powered my way through the lower/mid region up till the bridge.

The one thing I dont get with all this is that there are 3 classes in the game and only 1 of them uses shaping skills. The guardian and agent only use shaping as decoys. I was going to make my guardian a bit of a commander but luckily i didnt waste much points on shaping. Really a disappointment.

  14. Now i used luck quite a bit in g1, but in geneforge 2, luck's rise in cost makes me wonder if 1% to evade and hit chance, and 1 added armor is worth it. Are those still the actual things you get with it? And what is this h.e.r. in simple terms. Edit-Found that last bit, hostile environment resistance. Still same question, what is that?

The reason im asking here is because h.e.r appeared her too. Sorry if this confuses.

  15. I might give avadon a try later on. However, this time i am going to max everything I do (sidequests, etc.) so i get the best stuff. The only reason i find the avernum games to be hard is not because they are hard but because it takes forever to kill a group of five regular monsters while solo. I know this was intended for parties, but hopefully jeff makes avernum like avadon when it comes to battle disciplines. Lots of area attacks should go to weapons skills like arrow, blade, spear. I always never liked the fact that the only area affect attacks were from magic or priest spells.
