Yeah logic really doesnt belong here

This is awesome. I wouldve never thought that there is such an active community for making these scenarios well over god knows how many years the game has been out. Props to op!
-
Huh, really? I thought that since none of the crpgs ive played had those classes it wasnt in. It must have just been on d and d the game.
-
The one thing i never did play and understand about d and d was when they added the psychic warrior and psionicist to one of the later editions. They have those classes in Knights of the Chalice 2 from indie game-maker HeroicFantasyGames. I never actually did play them though they looked like an interesting new change to the class rules. Ill have to give them a try when they release the next game.

I just finished a5 and decided that i never actually got the chance to beat any of the original engine games (a1, 2,3, blades of avernum and nethergate-Resurrection) I played a1 a bit and it was cool. I played nethergate though and i really thought the setting of nethergate was much cooler. However what about blades of avernum? Ive heard that a lot of people that couldnt get into a1, found blades to be fun. 1-I am looking for a game with a set mission, something like avernum, but not the whole exploring 80,000+ lands. Maybe more linear, what would be good for that? 2-If i did get blades, Ive heard that there are numerous editors that allow for new scenarios. How do they work? Are they just expanded on your already made characters or do they affect the endgame. If there is no set level, ill try to do all of them for one party if that is possible. How do the editors work?

2nd edition is my fav. Any other edition would make bg1 and bg2 unsoloable.

On the topic of geneforge, i find that the game starts out fairly easy, then goes to moderate, then turns to freakishly hard. What makes things difficult is that geneforge unlike other games such as avernum, is much harder in that the choices you make skill wise impact you more if you are a guardian/agent. They impact more because you are the only character usually. This happens in avernum sometimes if a character in your group slows you down. I made a thief type character in a4 and he slowed down my other fighters as he couldnt hit anything. The only game i can compare it to is eschalon book 1 and 2. In that game you really want to improve the skills that do the killing first, then focus on other skills later. I always usually get caught in the jack of all trades mindset. Thats what kills me.

Either way, forget all this negativity. I just hope that i can eventually get through any game from spiderweb on normal. That might sound sad, but ill keep hoping.

You have to understand that the imbalance between characters is immense. In geneforge 1 and 2, you are almost forced to play certain characters as the other characters dont perform nearly as good as the others. In g2, the guardian is the king almost to the point where playing an agent was pointless. In g1, there are no protective skills to help against getting hit all the time. You essentially have to hope that you dont get hit for 140 damage, otherwise you reload numerous times. There are alot more people than you'd think that find jeff's quirkyness crazy.

I think that you might be right, but has it always been so horribly imbalanced, even in exile and original avernums? I mean the geneforge series is so imbalanced that i think jeff should allow all users that bought the originals to get the remake at 50% off.

I know its a pretty weird question, but never in my whole life have I not been able to figure out how to find the niche in each game. I avoid games i would not be good at such as racing games and first person shooters. Yet every game i have started and completed at spiderweb software, has been played on easy. Ive tried normal and was good in beginning, until after that which i switched to easy. I cant seem to find a game which i am able to beat on normal. Is that really sad and do i suck that much or is jeff just trying to give you a run for your life?

Entreri may have been a villain but some of the things he said made some sense. I found that his approach was very different from drizzt's and always wanted him to win their fights, though entreri didnt. Salvatore said in an interview that if he was writing the books based on fact, that entreri would win as he was more dedicated to just fighting. The reason he almost stated that drizzt wins all the time, is that salvatore has numerous times stated that he roots for the good guys.

If you want to play a single-player strategy mmorpg (makes no sense but true) then play depths of peril from soldak. In reality you are in a city where you are competing with other character class heroes that not only do stuff, but will outclass you if you dont defeat enough monsters. Aside from that, its the only rpg where your lack of doing something has an affect. In my opinion, its a better version than all the weird people you meet on wow or diablo 2. Much less stress. -

Ive heard a lot about a series that salvatore wrote where each main character dies almost in every series. Is that the same one?

I read the homeland book and found that that and the rest of the first and second trilogy were great. What happened though was once the books went on, i drifted from drizzt and got more interested in artemis. As time went on, i found that artemis made more sense in most of the books. Drizzt needed his friends to survive, whereas artemis needed no one to survive. That lone badass approach was awesome and inspired me so much that from then on i only play finesse rogue characters in crpgs.
-
Ive been through all books except the recent ones with the ghost king, etc. I love the drizzt books and even more so the artemis entreri books. I find that their personalities mesh well with my own, not so much drizzts but especially entreri's. I was actually hoping that there might be some sort of type characters in some of the series here that i havent played, though redbeard reminds me of kane from rotp. Anyone else on these boards Ra Salvatore fans?

Ive played diablo 2 from 2002-2010 with four 1 year breaks in between every once in a while. I finally managed to get the courage and with a friend of mine, defeated the ubers. I can say one thing about all that-it was a complete waste of time. Sure it was maybe a little fun, but all it really was was work. Work at trading and getting the items. I stopped playing most action/rpgs because of the nothing gained nothing earned mindset that it requires. If i am going to play a game, i want to remember why i enjoyed it and what made it fun. Not just because my character is uber strong. What makes a game fun is what is happening in the game, not what level it takes to get the best skill in the game. Maybe why i like geneforge so much is because the story and setting can never get old with me. Jeff could be in his 80s (with me in my 60s) making geneforge 10 and ill buy it no matter what he did with it. Certain games just click. One of the things that i liked about avernum 1 was the setting. However, though i am not a nit-pick, the graphics werent the real turnoff for me, it was more the free roaming of your characters. I like a set world with no random encounters. However, with avernum 4-6 you get the set world, but with less cool story. The reason that the story of the later avernum's turned me off, is because your right off the bat working for the empire. In avernum 1 you are essentially in it to escape and survive with no dedication to a crazy authority. Sounds much more interesting than the former. -
This looks cool-Where do I start
Death Knight replied to Valdain the King's topic in Second Avernum Trilogy
Although Avadon is not my biggest favorite, Its the only game with actual party members that interact. Its also the closest thing nowadays to Baldur's Gate series. Whereas Avernum 1-6 are more like icewind dale series. The characters in your party dont talk or interact, but you are into it more for the story and to make a cool character as the class system is practically custom char all the way. The only thing I was surprised about for Avernum was the stories in the games. I found that of avernum 1, 4, 5 and 6, the only story I felt got me engrossed was a5. Then there's geneforge. Its essentially-Pick your character class like avadon and that defines how you will play. What also defines the game is the creatures, the great plot and the ability to play the game differently. Of the games spiderweb makes, the geneforge series is not only the hardest (which most would agree), its probably the most diverse. I would go with avadon. Jeff's just started on npc relationships, and i think he will do much more in the future down that alley. Aside from that, if you are interested in epic turn-based battles, avadon is your choice, although avernum rewrite's around the corner. -

No word yet on whether they act as passive skills, active skills, or both. Spells and battle disciplines are still separate from both stats and skills. —Alorael, who believes the way that battle disciplines are acquired remains unexplained. You might unlock them by having enough of the right skills, like Avernum. You might choose them as skills in their own right, making them almost identical to Avadon's abilities. They might work in an entirely new way. Im hoping that jeff keeps them as they are in a5 and 6, with need to unlock but not actual need to put many skill points in each one of them like avadon. That is what was cool about avernum 5 and 6. Adding the avadon battle disciplines is cool though. The reason that i dont want him to do it is because you already have to make your character right with stats, then skills, if he adds battle disciplines into the mix the way avadon does them, thats going to be too much. I think that jeff wont do that though.

Hmm..does anyone know where the 3 drayk leaders exactly are? Ive looked all except 2 levels and i cannot find them.

Wow, either im really good or these creatures have no confidence, im going to go with the latter. I just got confronted by a drakon boss (cant remember name), the tool was so lame that after i was about to kill him, he ran away. Talk about a cowardly creature. He's like 15 feet tall, and hes running away from a 6 foot tall guy with a sword/shield. Its kinda funny really.

So i lost because i wasted points on intelligence? I only put 2 points there, i figured that shamans use intelligence. What i should have done was put 4 points in dex and 1 in endurance and do that every five levels.
