Who will the Keeper in Avadon 2 be? (Spoilers)
Death Knight replied to Denizen of Terrestia's topic in Avadon Series
One of the funny things about Avadon is that while certain things about it I dont like as much as geneforge, the story is amazingly good making me want to play it again. The only series ive played that had a story on par in my opinion was probably baldurs gate 1 and 2 and the first 2 geneforge games. Edit-Another thing that I am wondering about the next game is whether dexterity will be as much of a powerhouse to invest in as Avadon 1 was. I think dexterity could be made a little less useful that way endurance can be made more useful, like in the new Avernum Remake. -
Who will the Keeper in Avadon 2 be? (Spoilers)
Death Knight replied to Denizen of Terrestia's topic in Avadon Series
It has to be Redbeard, even if he isnt keeper, he will be an integral part of the story. He's the coolest character in the game and I cant picture the series without him. Well...if jeff makes a second series later on, then maybe redbeard will be gone. -
Once avadon 2 is out, he'll be back for good

Grand Poll Results, Part 1: Demographics
Death Knight replied to Punctuation rains from the heavens's topic in General
One of the things i didnt understand was what i should put under politics. I dont follow either party, never really cared about politics as it seemed to not make sense, and any effort i tried to make to understand it, resolved with failure. To make matters worse half of my family is democrat, the other is arch-conservative tea party. -

I happen to think that if avernum 1-3 could be altered to look like avernum 4-6, that would be even better. But of course this is a lot of work. Has there ever been a modding base of fans for these games? Am I understanding you right that you're saying that you like Avernum 1-3 more than Avernum: Escape From The Pit, but you like A:EFTP's graphics more? Then what did you like better about A1-3? It would be possible, I think, to use some sort of resource editor (and a graphics editor) to insert A:EFTP graphics into A1, though it wouldn't make it quite look like A:EFTP. And it would be sort of a pointless exercise. What i liked better was a few things. 1-The lack of battle disciplines. I found that they made fighters to be very much the same as each other. Well aimed blows seemed to be the only tactics used. Also i much prefer the geneforge system where skills decided how you made your character, not just 10 disciplines, of which 2 are used regularly. 2-The skill system and the skills included. The system allowed for more replayability as you can specialize in any skill without a skill tree to hold you back. Also the assassination skill was awesome. 3-An actual much more balanced system between sword/board and spears. In avernum 1-3, swords were actually close to spears in damage and there was a much more balanced system then in Avernum Escape from the pit. This one really annoyed me. In the new remake sword and board is useless, spears are useless, the only fighter there is to make is dualwielding as it is really the most powerful type of weapon class.

Grand Poll Results, Part 2: Game Ratings

Very informative chart slarty! I was surprised by the deathmatch results. -
Is that really true? You can get through geneforge 1-5 with a fyora?? Thats gotta be really hard but if so thats pretty friggin cool.

Thats my avatar which is a portrait that some talented artist drew of artemis entreri.
-
Well thats alright. Im just wondering. The games are great, but if someone redid the graphics to 2nd trilogy, it would be a 15/10!

A:EftP - This game sucks so bad...
Death Knight replied to diipadaapaa's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2011-2018 remake versions)
I don't think this game sucks. I think that although the old game has a lot of things i like, this game is much more simplistic and easy to play/get into. -

The reason i don't mind when jeff does linear is because your getting such a great story regardless. However, a lot of the nonlinear games are really fun too. Most fun i had with avernum escape from the pit was just sneaking and evading groups of monsters to get to places like that would normally destroy a lvl 5 group of adventurers. Geneforge handled the stealth system the best i think out of jeffs games though with avadon coming in a close second.

Thanks, I might do that though i don't think id play that way the entire game unless i get really good at that game. Is there a game where you think was ridiculously hard on torment or are they all just tough?
-
Well i had to wonder about this as i know that i doubt i will ever try it on any of these games (unless i happen to know a game that well). This question is for slarty and anyone else who plays on this difficulty. Just what is different about torment in the games on spiderweb software, other than it being incredibly hard? Is there some sort of different way enemies act?

Assassination as a skill was everything that i loved about those games. Playing blades of avernum with that in mind was so much fun. The reason i like it is because it's very unique in that you basically aim for your character to gain so much experience so that you eventually get critical hits on people and eventually (mostly all monsters) that are less talented than your character. Its got to be one of the coolest ideas for a class. Whats even cooler was the classes you can create with the older games with assassination. Use swords, assassination, and rely on bows for a backup archer or marauding type rogue. Put points into resistance, hardiness, assassination for a mage killer rogue. Put a lot of points into anatomy (another favorite skill) for an assassin rogue. The list goes on. -

Avernum had flashy graphics in this version. That wasnt what did it in to me. What got me annoyed was when all the cool skills were taken out. Assassination? Gone. Anatomy? Gone. Quick Strike from BOA and later, Gone. Quick Action? No extra attack. Those were all the things that were completely roguish in nature. Backstab you say? Thats more an avadon skill than a rogue skill. Assassination was one of the coolest skills in those games because it was so unique. Ive yet to see a game that has had such a unique and cool take on rogues. -
I voted for avadon, geneforge 1 and geneforge 2. Those are my favorites because i just love reading the story that was in those games. Not that the other geneforges arent cool. I cant stand the avernum series.

Its true that the build I'm trying on avadon isn't ridiculously powerful, but its normal difficulty and fun all the same. I would never make it on torment or tricky difficulties. A lot of things that i like to try don't work on torment. When i play through avernum 2 remake, i might try a new party with 1 warrior, 2 archers (probably nephils) and a priest. The 2 archers likely wouldn't work on torment.

I am playing a guardian on normal difficulty and i have some trouble with this fight in kratoa kel with guardian makar. I got past all the fights before hand by myself and occasionally with stone helpers. I currently have 2 stone helpers left that i healed to max health but we can't seem to do enough damage to makar as we run out of health by the time his robot is dead. Makar by himself is a tank and he takes little damage each hit, what sucks even more is that i can't leave until i kill him. Can anyone give any advice on this fight? My stats are fine as i put all my points in strength, parry, endurance, quick action and melee.
-
What i usually do and i likely will for avernum 2, 3 remake, is add strength every level with endurance every 3rd level. So lvl 3, 6 and 9 get endurance but lvl 2, 4, and 5 get strength. Avadon's system allows for a little more freedom because most of the time the characters can hit most enemies with much less points into weapon attributes. Im making a shaman right now that is the complete opposite of my blade master that wielded bows my first game. Endurance every level with dexterity every level.

Congrats to you jeff, I hope to see avernum 4-6 next.

I never completed gene forge 3, but i still liked it more than the 4th. My favorite was gene forge 1 for the story and building up suspense with gene forge 5 being my second favorite, which i am nearing the end right now.

Acteon, I have to agree with you on Geneforge. Jeff could remake all the geneforge games linear or nonlinear and i would play and replay them over and over again regardless.
