  1. After just watching his casual connect, I would say no. Jeff most likely would deal with anyone if they had graphics he could use or sounds. From seeing a lot of his interviews, he doesn't seem like he would think of expanding. But who am I to know.
  2. I dont think redbeard will die, at least not for another couple games. He's probably going to be a central figure in the 2nd game and he might die then or in the 3rd. As for awesome characters, Ive yet to meet Erika in Avernum's remake so its subject to change.
  3. Im playing through Avadon a second time and one of the things that made the game much more replayable than the other series is the characters in Avadon. Redbeard, Miranda, Moritz-Kri and Zhethron are all awesome and very well done characters with Redbeard at the top of the list. Ive played jeff's other series but so far it seems like Avadon's characters are just so much more unforgetable compared to the other series jeff made. Redbeard's quips and discussions that he has with the main character were sometimes funny, and at the same time-deathly serious. I guess that was one of the things that jeff figured he did with the character. He made him a ruthless keeper, but with the jolly charisma of the nicest guy; if you do what he says. There were a few other really cool characters but they were mostly in the Geneforge series as I havent completed any of the Avernum series. Alwan and Greta were both awesome in Geneforge 4 and Greta more so in Geneforge 5. Im not finished/at the middle with A:Escape from the Pit but Ive heard that jeff mentioned he started getting better in his writing later on.
  4. I just survived my 2nd interview today, some of those questions require a skill of 5 in bs.
  5. Thats friggin awesome randomizer, thanks for the advice. I still do think that missiles must have a place in gene forge 4 and up. Getting out of range of double attacks that some of the powerful enemies have is crucial. I had no idea that missiles were viable in gene forge 1 and 2. Since I beat 1, Ill try your advice on gene forge 2 when Im done with g3.
  6. Im currently loving missile weapons in Geneforge 3. Im plowing down enemies with my ranged weapon guardian to the point where I really wonder why I used melee in the past. Whats really cool is that because gene forge 3 made missile weapons awesome, I'm starting to wonder if they are equally potent in the other games as well. For geneforge 4 and 5, you lose out on that extra round before closing with melee, but still are able get out of range of a double attack from certain monsters that have extra attacks. For geneforge 1 and 2, I don't think ranged weapons would work as I'm told that dexterity doesn't add to their damage. Either way im really looking forward to making a Agent that wields ranged weapons in the future as it sounds like something new and unique to try. Has anyone else made ranged weapon experts in some of the earlier gene forges or in g4 and g5?
  7. I know its very early to be discussing this but last time I spoke with Jeff, he told me he was determined to make spears more powerful due to sliths making an appearance in the 2nd game. Now I really dont care if sliths overpower dualwielding as much as Id rather there being an actual reason to use spears in the game over sword/board and dualwielding. Im more thinking of how jeff will handle traits and race statistics/bonuses. I know that the races will determine a few new things but I figured jeff would give a few small race-specific bonuses with the rest being the same as before. However, regarding the bonuses that each race would have I thought humans should get dual wielding bonuses and a luck bonus (d and d humans?), slith get hardiness, poleweapons and small bonus to lethal blow, and nephils get a medium lethal blow bonus and bows. If sliths get a bonus of hardiness and spears, there will be an actual reason to use them as sword and board wont overshine them. Add in lethal blow and you have a pretty viable build. Does anyone else have any ideas on this, the anticipation of the next remake is really awesome!
  8. Im lvl 15 and was talking to King Micah about killing the Slith boss that needs to be taken out. I have the key and my party has pretty decent gear. My question is should I lvl a little more before fighting him or can I take him down? Im not really sure whether King Micah has this as a major quest to be done right away, or something that is way in advance.
  9. Avernum 5 and 6 and i think even 4 run on my mac which is brand new. So does Geneforge 3, 4, and 5. On a side note, geneforge 1 and 2 run as well on my mac. By the way, Avernum 4-6 almost forces the fighters to put points into dex, strength, and endurance, and even intelligence if you want to use anatomy.

What does annoy me is when games only give you meaningful control over one character and leave everyone else's actions up to the AI. Yeah it would be really cool if there were more games like that. But Im not really sure that jeff would make his new/next series off of that. He said in his blog/interviews that when making games in the future, he would draw on everything he did in geneforge series.
  11. Im not sure I understand which system is being analyzed. Are you analyzing the old system of spiderweb where you get 5 skill points or x skill points per level and they go up per 2 levels. Or are you referring to the new system in avernum escape from the pit and avadon? This is the article where jeff discusses the system- Jeff Vogel http://jeff-vogel.blogspot.com/2011/08/dont-ask-questions-until-player-can.html I personally think the new system is better in almost every way. You can much more easily spread your stats out and skills as well. If you say want to make an offensive melee fighter, you can put points into strength every level except 5th where you would allocate a point into endurance for defense. Or every 3rd level you would allocate into endurance for a more defensive melee fighter. Traits and skills help make this more simple as well as they work more in unison. The old system was more freedom but the problem was if your like me, and mess up with placing points, you can make the game almost unplayable. Your ideas for agility and luck are great and would be really cool, however I dont think jeff will make a major change.
  12. Wow, cant believe I slipped and forgot BAK. I probably should have listed Betrayal at Krondor and other games as you playing as a party of characters that are already made, allowing you to make them anyway you want. I myself have never played those games so I wouldnt know just how the characters react. Has anyone played the krondor series at all?
  13. The best way I prevent people from getting destroyed by lightning is by making sure that one person is the sole person who is getting attacked by that creature or creatures. The more people that get hit with lightning the worse it gets as the more people that have to be healed. The challenger trait (which everyone usually hates) is actually very useful and it DOES work very well with just 1 perk in it. I generally allow my tank who has high hardiness/parry and bonus endurance traits to attack that creature{s). Parry allows for deflecting of melee/ranged when it happens, and hardiness and endurance take care of the rest of the magic attacks. While that is going on I use my other warrior who has high damage/more offensive to take down the other enemies that are attacking my tank from afar. My mage then blasts the other enemies and heals my tank when needed.
  14. There are some games that allow both sometimes although they are rare. I remember when playing Avernum 1 one time, I created 2 characters (a fighter and a mage/priest) and was allowed the chance to join up with one other warrior. Knights of the Chalice didnt allow that, nor did Pools of Radiance-Ruins of Myth Drannor. The only other game that had that that Ive played was temple of elemental evil. The cool thing about that particular case was that, some of the party members that joined, were literally worse for your party than most of the monsters and would stab you in the back at their first chance.

There's too few of them altogether.
  16. As for the geneforge setup, I guess you could say that its a create a party rpg, although it leans towards the summoning the party members when you need them. I chose like both but I would say that there really should be more create a party rpgs in general.
  17. Ive thought on this for a while about party-based roleplaying games and want to see what you all think. My preference would most-likely be about equal. I used to not be able to play the create a party rpgs, but now I like them as much as the create a character rpgs. What do you all feel about these types of rpgs? Create a party like Avernum and Nethergate? or create a character like Geneforge and Avadon?
  18. Most definitely Shadowbolts Skull...

Congrats Sylae, always great to have you here
  20. One of the things that is not random but still a little weird is turn order. Since my tank with no quick action/and or dexterity is my 1st party member, he goes first if you toggle turn acts in roster order. Whats weird about this is that sometimes he goes first and before my 2nd fighter can go (who happens to have 9 quick action) a few of the enemy will go. I dont know what is better roster order or who's ever quicker.
  21. I got the full game avernum 6 in a giveaway on gog but im a little reluctant to try it. Avernum 5, was hard when i got to lysttek the beast. Thats usually where i give in. But the review says that avernum 6 was much more simplistic.
  22. I just beat avadon again this time for a shaman with the other 2 allies i havent used. Really just a great game. Im currently taking my time with avernum eftp but cant play it as tomorrow ill be on vacation and my computer at home is the only one that can play escape from the pit. After giving up on geneforge 3 after i lost big time, I need another game i can play and have a somewhat casual experience with. I dont want to have to number crunch and be extremely crazy with stats. I just want a game i can enjoy the story. The only game ive never played at all and didnt get stuck in, would be avernum 6. Ive read a few reviews after i got stuck in avernum 5 and the reviewers say jeff really fixed alot of the things and made the game much more user friendly. I tried avernum 5, but never can get past a quarter of the game. Is avernum 6 more like avadon where it is more casual or should i just wait until avadon 2 for my mac? Im just looking for a casual game to play a bit on the train ride tomorrow and possibly when i come back.

The guy's responsible for a lot of fun that I've had. Yeah, I just applied to a gaming job in seattle and i second that notion. Instead of a beer, id buy him his favorite pizza that he raves on in the manual for him. I must be the only who reads the manuals, lol.
  24. many thanks to you all! It turns out that there is something very weird in vista and 7 pcs sometimes. What happened was my computer didnt want to show all of the files to me, which made no sense. It was located in geneforge 3 saves which only was able to be seen when you do a search in the c drive. In a search of geneforge3, it was listed even though if i went through the other way, it wouldnt be seen. But still without you guys to point the location, i still would be in the dark. Many thanks!
  25. Just checked that folder. Nothing there. Its probably in the most random place, if its anywhere at all.
