Both of these links are dead. Any chance someone has a copy of this somewhere? I'm mainly curious about the damage ranges of the various Tinkermage turrets.
  2. Does it mean that the character wearing them, if they heal people, will do +x% more healing? Or does it mean that they'll receive x% extra healing? Does it work with potions, wands, and other consumables?
  3. Any tips for a Blademaster doing this on Torment?
  4. The single biggest thing I'd like to see is something that tells me how many action points I'll use to move to a certain location. It's really frustrating to think you're clicking 7 squares away (so you can still shoot) when really it's 8, and now you can't. Likewise, when you're trying to move in range and attack by clicking on the enemy, it would be nice if it gave you an indication of whether or not you'll end up moving close enough before attacking, or if you'll spend all the AP on movement. There's a lot of times with my sorcerer where I assume he's in range, click to attack, and he spends all his AP running around some obstacle to get closer and runs out of attack APs. Then he's just left standing there out in the open like a moron. These things are always avoidable if I count squares out, but not having to count the squares manually would be a huge UI improvement.
  5. Thanks. Just found that in my quest log too. Doh.
  6. I was hoping to do a Blademaster/Sorcerer/Tinkermage party. My main class is Blademaster I just got to Avadon, became a hand, and now have everyone but the Tinkermage available as a party member. Where can I pick him up?
  7. Torment is definitely all about picking and choosing your battles. You'll likely spend a lot of time half-completing a dungeon, having to run away from the final fight, and then coming back in a few levels to finish it off. Also, I don't think I'd even try Torment if I was going into the game blind. That worked on Avadon because the game was so linear, but for Avernum you really need to have a good idea of where some of the spells, trainers, etc are, because you really have to make the most of every single thing you are given, and take advantage of things as soon as you can feasibly get them.
  8. Well, try a harder difficulty and let us know how it goes! Complaining that it's too easy while higher difficulty modes are available to you seems kind of baffling. It'd be like me complaining that the game is too hard when I crank the difficulty up to Torment!
  9. I don't know if any of you guys are familiar with the Stack Exchange network. It started out as one website, Stack Overflow, which is a Q&A site for programmers. It works differently than a forum in that they try to be pretty strict about keeping the signal to noise ratio high... someone asks a question, people post answers, good answers get voted up, bad answers get voted down, and non-answers get deleted. Anyway, the idea took off and now there are a bunch of other non-programming Q&A sites, such as Gaming.StackExchange. It's got a pretty decent sized user base and chances are that if you've ever googled a question about Skyrim, you've ended up there (if you didn't end up at UESP first). Anyway, I'm bringing this up because I've asked some games about Spiderweb games there, such as Geneforge 2 and the latest Avernum. The problem is, none of the hardcore Spiderweb fans who play the games seem to be on that site. I usually end up self-answering my questions once I figure it out or get the answer on the forums here. Why am I bringing this up? Well, first off, I think it's a cool site. In addition to being a good place to get answers about games, they've also been running a lot of contests with free giveaways lately. Since February, I've gotten a free copy of Kingdoms of Amalur, a free copy of Mass Effect 3, a PS Vita, and a 42" television. And all it required was asking and answering questions about games I play. I'm actually not trying to advertise their site here, though. I'm trying to do the opposite. It makes me a little sad to see awesome games like Avadon and Avernum hit, and they don't really make a wave on the site. I think getting a few more people there who ask and answer questions about it would be a great advertising opportunity for Spiderweb games and maybe draw a few more fans in. And Spiderweb games are full of good Q&A opportunities. Anyway, I'm not affiliated with the site or anything like that. I just think it's a cool place and would love to see some more Avernum and Geneforge questions there. I've actually got two on there right now waiting for answers.

  11. When I played Avadon, I used the game tweak that made switches sparkle a little bit because it was too hard for me to see them normally on my monitor. Does Avernum have hidden switches like Avadon, and if so, can I tweak this game as well to make them more visible?
  12. I don't know. Pretty sure the same thing happened with the Avadon release too, and from what I read on the forums, that wasn't the first time. Whether or not Jeff does it that way as a little bonus to eager fans who know where to look, or if it's just a security oversight that he doesn't feel is particularly high priority to fix, I've never seen official word either way on it. I doubt he's terribly stressed out that people are downloading and buying his game a few hours early. Based on how it went for Avadon, I fully expect the official link will be up in a few hours anyway.
  13. 1. Click on the link to download the mac version. 2. It should take you to a page where the download begins automatically. You can cancel that download since you don't actually want the Mac version, but stay on that page. 3. Right-click the "click here" link on that page, which will give you the direct file download for the Mac version. Copy the link location. 4. Paste that link into your browser, but change the file extension to .exe. 5. Enjoy the demo!
  14. Any truth to this article that we're looking at an April 11th release date? Regardless of the actual date, is the Steam release expected to happen at the same time as the main site?
  15. Okay, turns out that there is a different path in the dialogue tree that I hadn't taken, which leads to her giving the quest, which I could then immediately tell her I'd completed. On the really small chance someone else runs into this, here's how you get the quest. When talking to her select the following: 1. "What do you do out here?" 2. "You are having a problem with some rogues?" 3. "You support the killing of a fellow creation?" That should give you the quest. After that, when you talk to her the option to turn in the quest should be in the top level of her conversation tree.
  16. I found Learned Darian in Darian's Sanctuary, but I did it after completely clearing the Rising Bridge map, including the mad battle beta there. Darian refuses to sell to me, saying she needs the items for defense while the battle betas to the east are still around. As I said, I cleared them all out to the east already. The walkthrough on GameFaqs suggests Darian will give you a quest to kill the battle beta and sell to you once you complete it, but she's not actually giving me a quest. Did I screw this up by killing the battle beta before she ever asked me to, or is Rising Bridge not the area she's talking about?
  17. From what I understand, if you use enough canisters in Geneforge 2, you'll end up with a different ending because you end up driven a little bit mad. So far, I've used 0 canisters, and don't plan to use any. However, I joined the Awakened and have the chance to be altered by Tuldaric so that I can use the highest level spells. Will the act of being altered (but using 0 canisters) have the same effect as if I just go ahead and use all the canisters in the game? Just trying to figure out if there's any point in getting altered but then ignoring the canisters.

So nice I actually bought Avadon there (when it was on sale) after already buying it here during its initial release. Sure, I can always download the game here. And for one game, that's not hard to keep track of. Keeping track of 200+ games I own, though, if I had to get each one from each developer's site, gets out of control. Jeff's been around a long time and I doubt he's going anywhere soon, but that's not true for all developers. For instance, a few years back I bought a digital copy of Devil Whiskey (an indie Bard's Tale-ish game) when it came out. I'll be damned if I can find a way to get a new copy of that game though, since the website for it is now in a pretty sorry state and they haven't responded to my support requests. Unless, of course, Steam disappears. Then I'm screwed. But in this case, I'd rather put all my eggs in one very sturdy-looking basket than try carrying 200 baskets. Anyway, based on my own inability to be patient and on Jeff's answer, odds are really good I'll buy this from him when he releases the Windows version, then buy it again when it is on sale on Steam.
  19. I'm assuming this game will end up on Steam like Avadon did. Any idea when that will be?
  20. I think I'd pay twice as much for that version of Avernum. Don't tease.
  21. I recently beat GF1 and ran into this same issue. I found out I needed the crescent stone so I came back to the wastes and kept entering and exiting the zone trying to get the Thahd to spawn and getting frustrated that he wouldn't. And then I noticed a stone sitting on the ground. Turns out I'd killed the Thahd my very first time in the zone and never even noticed the stone he dropped, since I wasn't looking for it at the time and it just looked like any other stone. So I'd been trying to make him spawn when really, I'd already killed him. Might want to stare at the ground and see if you have the same problem I did.
  22. Even though I already own all these, for the Steam price, I'll buy them all again there. Thus proving a fool and his money are soon parted!
  23. Man, I got to that point in the game and was basically like, "Redbeard, you've got your problems, but the heck if I'm going to let someone manipulate me into fighting you." So I never even tried to fight him. Just didn't feel right. Honestly, by the end of the game, I was feeling pretty bad for helping my party members out with their side quests. They were starting to seem like a bunch of whiny babies.
  24. For the record, I played through on Hard, but for the most part found it too easy and have decided henceforth I'll play future Spiderweb games on Torment. I had to average my answer for "previous games", because I did Avernum 1 on Normal, Avernum 2 on Hard, and Avernum 3 on Torment.
