  1. Great information, and I appreciate people sharing their tactics and ways of using different spells. What is the ettiquette on sharing external information/sites/guides? I recently found a pair of guides over on the Steam Avernum Discussions section that I think could be quite useful for players here. I don't want to overstep, or spam if linking to other sites is not okay. Is there a way to do this right? -Hr
  2. I know it's possible to avoid the trials by doing or not doing certain things. I'm not certain the full list. Below in spoilers I have put the two choices I think effect how many trials, if necessary, the Vahnatai council requires you to do to get their support. Could someone please add the one choice I'm missing, and/or confirm the correct list of choices? I know I've done this successfully before, but my searching failed to turn up the full list. <spoiler> 1. Reawaken the sleeping Vahnatai in the Coffin Caves. 2. Complete the ritual to pay homage to the Vahnatai spirit that calls you out on your journey from the side island. </spoiler> Many Thanks, Hr
  3. Randomizer-Thank You! That was what I needed. I also finally realized there was a huge part of the Tower I never explored in the middle, containing the main Portal. I had mixed it up with the Van Portal in the corner and the fake Pylon outside :D. All good now. -Hr
  4. I need some help with getting the Pylons to start working in Avernum 2 remade. 1. I have visited and touched many of the Pylons, gaining their phrases. 2. I've gained Mage Clearance-is this sufficient, or do I need Castle Clearance? 3. I've tried using the outdoors Pylon near the Mages Tower, no response. 4. I've tried using the Pylon inside the Castle on the left/west side, it gave a phrase, nothing else. 5. Portal to Van. Lands works to send me there and back, no change. What do I do to get the Pylons to allow me to teleport? Do I need higher access? Speak to someone specific (who)? Special quest? I don't mind spoilers, been going in circles between Castle and Tower for a while. I tried searching the forums but could not find the answer. Many thanks
  5. When planning and building your characters, how much focus do you put (if any) on getting the Adrenaline Rush Battle Discipline? I ask because I've noticed what a large boost this can be in combat, and I find myself focusing on it above other options, at least for two of my four characters (the melee and archer types). The challenging part is with the priest/mages: Do I go for combat skills and delay the stronger spells? Or go for spells early, and wait on the action point buff of AR? I'm not saying one approach or the other is best, but given some of the awesome theory crafting and number crunching posts, I would love to hear what other players choose and prioritize. What do you focus on getting in the first 10 levels? What tradeoffs do you make to get one thing earlier? -Hraffy
  6. TM Paladin: Thanks for clarifying that. I had wondered, give the number of useful one handed weapons that add bonuses to things other than melee attacks. I love the way Jeff creates meaningful choices with interesting tradeoffs. I like games where there is no one overwhelmingly obvious right answer. -Ed
  7. For example: Archer has bow as primary weapon they are shooting. Their melee weapons equipped are Goblin Cleaver (plus 1 to Deadly Blow) and shield (minus to hit chance). Is the bow they are wielding effected by the modifiers from these? Likewise, would equipping 2 melee weapons apply the dual wielding penalty to the bow being used? Avernum 3 remake if the version matters. -Hraffy
  8. Ah, my thanks, found it finally. For some reason I never noticed that section opening when I toggled the cleaning crew. For anyone else having trouble, click the spoiler for a screen grab: -H
  9. Would someone mind posting a screenshot of where it is? I've cleared the Filth Factory of enemies, but I can't find it anywhere. Release Cleaning Crew switch opens the room with treasure chests, but no spell book. I bought the hint book, but it only says that it's in the Filth Factory. Many thanks, -H
  10. Thank you all, this is very helpful. Off to slay goblins and more -Hraffy
  11. I searched the forums a bit but wasn't able to find much on this. Where or what quests are good for the early game leveling, from the period when you first leave the starting fort on? I ask because I keep running into enemies and quests that kill me in this area. Is there a particular quest chain or area where lower level monsters and tasks can be found? Many thanks, Hraffy
  12. Okay, scratch that. Man do I feel silly-found it. There was even a map note, that my eyes just skimmed right by. Many thanks -Hr
  13. Excalibur-Thanks for the tip on the worms-will go with better timing now Re: Western, yes, that's the quest. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find where it is that you go to check on the digging. Everywhere I find in anyway north of the fort is blocked or deadends. If anyone knows of landmarks, or where to go? I've found the guarded entrance to the ogre caves, and explored a lot of the area, but can't find anything north, or digging. Clues? Directions? Please? Many Thanks, Hr
  14. Two quick questions: 1. I'm trying to get the notes from upstairs in the Tower Colony, in the area where you have to avoid a ___ in the center of the map. I've noticed that there are a lot of blind worms. I manage to kill them fairly consistently, and their hellhound friends, but more worms appear each time I return. Is there a secret to getting past the worms? Do they respawn? Or is it a timing issue? 2. Western Excavations: Went to the camp inside the abandoned Vanatai fort, spoke with their leader, was told to go down some stairs north of the fort, and avoid the ogres. I found the ogres, but can't seem to find any stairs (or anything else like it) north of the fort. The maps in this region are making me tear my hair out in their complexity. Any information on where to go? Many Thanks! -Hr
  15. I've been a fan of the first three Exile & Avernum games for years, and trying my hand at 4-6. I love 6-lots of good gameplay and writing. I've read the spoilers on skills and traits and races, and find them very useful. One question that I haven't seen answered so far (forgive me if I missed it) is how people prefer to allocate skills? EX. I'm starting with a mix of DT/EW, DT/PS and DT/NM: Is it better to max out my stats-Int, Dex, End, Str? Or my direct skills, like Priest Spells, Mage Spells, Melee, Pole Arms? Or my supporting skills like Anatomy, Spellcraft, Blademaster, etc? Or is it better to mix and match, say two point str, dex, end, two pole, two defense? If I have, for instance, PS, should I ignore raising Priest Spells? Add to it slowly, every few levels? Or quickly at the start/end of the game? I know skill allocation will vary depending on what I want, but I'm curious-what makes a good pole arm fighter? mage specialist? Stats or skills? Mix or Focus? Many thanks for any advice on this. -Hr
