here my 2 cents, if anyone is interested. ive been a spiderweb customer since the early days (im talking 3 digit exile registration codes). i've bought every game up until avernum 5 ... at this point i lost interest. jeff seemed to be removing the funnest parts of the game (crystal souls, etc), because they could be abused. (spending 2 hours trying to capture sulfras might be a bit silly, but removing the whole concept is even worse). after a couple years absence, nostalgia got the better of me, and i bought avernum 5. this was a mistake. it is a woefully boring game. by the end of the game, most of the spells being cast are exactly the same at the start of the game. massive battles... gone... alliances... gone... controlling other units... gone... new ideas... gone... the same old spells cast over and over again... boring... i hope spiderweb software has some original ideas for their next series...
