  1. So the party will consist of one user-controlable character and two computer-controlled characters?
  2. While Avernums 4 thru 6 required 1024x768, the upcoming game, Avadon only requires 1024x600. This would allow the leftover 1024x168 space on the iPad to be used by any touch controls that would need to be added. From what I understand, Jeff is making Avadon a little bit different to make it easier for regular people play. Maybe the type of people who own iPads? It looks like the iPad is getting lots of momentum, taking the place of people's netbooks. The iPad app prices are generally much higher than the regular apps are. $9.99 and $14.99 are pretty common from what I understand. It looks like there are currently 10 million iPad users in the United States of America. The vast majority of them probably look on the App Store at some point. Everybody likes games. And surely there are some people who enjoy tactical RPGs. With this being a new game, Jeff very well might have decided this would be a good time to re-write anything that would need to be re-written for his compiler to compile to the iOS platform.
  3. I've been checking Jeff's blog everyday waiting for the his thoughts on the Apple App Store. Thanks for the link!
  4. I notice from the link Dantius posted that the Avernum 6 beta application was only open for two days. It's been nearly a week with Avadon, so maybe he isn't getting very many applicants.
  5. Is anyone else checking their email much more often than usual?

And as everyone knows, technically correct is the best kind of correct!

Happy April 20th everyone! On this day in history: Hitler kills himself. Columbine High School is massacred. Johnson Space Center is taken hostage (1 death, 1 suicide) Mahammad is born. Holidays today: 4/20 (Cannabis Consumption Celebration Day) L. Ron Hubbard Exhibition Day (scientology holiday) Ridván (a holiday of some obscure religion) Feast Day (a christian holiday know one's heard of) Many people have their own gardens. *snip*

    Yay!

So, in this pic the US government is trying to get the terrorists, but the terrorists keep hiding in their holes?
  9. Stone dagger is "2-12 -1" ; Iron dagger is "2-12" ; Steel dagger is "2-12 +2". What does the "-1" and "+2" do?

  11. Question: Would said novel be in the choose your own adventure format?
  12. We will never get zombie armies if Nikki keeps scaring the zombie-creating scientists with her common sense. They can't eat our brains if they are on a space ship to our enemies home planet. None of the zombies will escape.
  13. They just don't make walls like they did 200 years ago. Oh, I've accidentally "punched" a whole in the wall before. It was pretty easy to fix and it was not noticeable at all that there had once been a hole there. I was surprised. The dumb texture stuff that goes on sheet rock must have covered the umm lines between the old sheet rock and the new sheet rock. Personally, I am afraid of your landlord and would avoid talking to her, but she might notice the wall repair people coming in to your appartment and come inside to check it out.

    Thanks for fixing it.

    Jeff's New Game

3D with sprites would be AWSUM!!!!! Is it possible that he is making the characters and doodads in 3D and converts them to sprites for his games. The characters and doodads in Avernum 6 look kind of like they were made in 3D to me. Avernum 6 screenshot In screen shot the shelves look pretty 3D and so do the characters. But then those buckets of water look like we are seeing them from a different perspective than the shelves and desks.

    iPad

Oh, wow! You're right! And it will work with the Keyboard I already have! This will make Avernum on iPad way easier to play. The trickiest part will be holding the iPad up while typing on the keyboard and managing the games inventory with the touch screen. Is there some kind of stand for it to hold it up while I'm like riding in the car or whatever. I drew a picture of how it could maybe work, so you can see what I mean. Cause it would be hard to hold the iPad and type on keyboard at the same time. Also there is a close up picture to see better.
  17. i listen to 102.1 while i play avernum 2 at kdfc.com. i hate the ads, though.

    iPad

The iPad has the same screen resolution required for Avernum 6. If only it were as simple as adding buttons for moving the characters around. If only Steve would make us an iPad with a keyboard. He could call it an "iBook".

    Jeff's New Game

I really like that in the Spiderweb Software games you can move your characters around during battle (unlike dragon warrior or final fantasy for example, where battle is just a menu). I also like that there are no random battles (in that you can see the enemies on screen before you fight them). This puts Spiderweb Software way ahead of other games. Combat is much more interesting in his games. I've only played Avernum 2 so far, but one thing I have trouble with in Avernum is determining the distance or elevation of tiles when there is lots of variation in the elevation of adjacent tiles. I think it would be cool if the new game was in 3D (instead of isometric or whatever), and players could rotate the camera to get a better view or see behind things. And also characters could be able to go underneath other characters, like with one standing on top of a bridge and one standing underneath the bridge. And maybe standing at different elevations could effect things, like higher elevations could give archers a farther shooting range for example, but standing at lower elevations would hurt their arrow-shooting range. Maybe there could even be flying monsters that melee characters would have trouble with. Maybe throwing a rock at someone could do more damage if you are standing on a ledge above them or even melee would do more damage if standing on a ledge above the enemy standing below.
  20. So, if my four characters each get 25 experience from a battle; If I had completed that battle with just 1 character, would he have received 100 experience? Also does Experience division work the same on all SpiderWeb software games? Thank you thank you thank you in advance!
  21. Training In Intellect is about the same as training in Priest or Mage, except training in Priest or Mage also makes your spells stronger. Intellect, Priest, and Mage all equally help your maximum mana. So, if it costs 10 skill points for another rank of Intellect, but only 5 skill points for a rank of Priest, It would be better to get two ranks of the Priest because it will give you twice as much mana as that one rank of Intellect. So, in conclusion, in my opinion, your priest and mage should have some points in the other magic skill. You could combine them and just have one caster, but I prefer having two casters.
  22. The first 3 games have resolution of 800 by 600. iPhone has resolution of 480 by 320. Where would all the controls go? Would we constantly have Look, Talk, Priest, Mage, Inventory, Minimap, and Info button on the screen? I guess you could just have those 7 buttons in a column on the right side of the screen. The game wouldn't show your inventory or the mini map unless you click the button for it. He would have to either scale the graphics down (which probably wouldn't look to well), or the other option is to display about half as much on the world map (which would require a lot more scrolling). Then further hurting your vision is that their isn't room to show the mini map with all this and you also have six buttons that must constantly be displayed. I guess you could just have 1 button called "menu" to access all the other buttons you would need. This would be a lot of work, and I think it would be a lot more tedious to play on the iPhone / iPod touch. The best way, in my opinion, would be to reright it with brand new graphics designed for the smaller screen. If he does anything for the iPhone, in my opinion, a game designed especially for the iPhone would be best. all the graphics, town layouts, dialogue, battles, etc would be especially designed for the iPhone. It would probably be more enjoyable for him to make a new game than to remake an old one, and it would have more potential income for him because it is a new game that no one has played before.
  23. I rolled an archer in Avernum 2. I couldn't find any place that sold arrows in chapter 2. Now I'm in chapter 3 and I still can't find an arrow vendor. By the way, he has a Yew Bow and 10 unused Iron Bolts. Should I train him in some other weapon? Also does strength increase archer damage? I'm under the impression that it only help with melee weapons.
