  1. Huh, didn't remember that. Maybe because the first time I played GF I was fairly young. And I only played G1 up to the demo before getting G2. Anyway, thanks for clarification.
  2. Fond memories of feeling good about myself after beating one at a lower level than I should be come to mind.
  3. Quote: The war begins! And will not finish ever!!! Choose your side! Choose your spells! AND PREPARE YOURSELF FOR THE LAST WAR!!! THE WAR OF THE WORLDS!!! Technically a war that doesn't end can't be considered the last war since in this context last would be synonymous to "after which there is none", and the whole point of an infinite event is that it has no end. GF-wise, I don't really mind the change in graphics, although I do agree that the new Shaper graphic could be better.

A hundred thousand kingdoms and only three major characters to populate them? Sounds pretty cerebral to me. I have just finished "A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" by Alexander Solzhenitsyn. Its first person narrative and standard respectable hero with standard, respectable morals somehow are surprisingly good. Also surprising is that for a book about a man imprisoned in a Soviet prison camp it's not a "downer". Not to say that I don't sympathize, but the book doesn't leave one with an overwhelming sense of sadness, in fact the main character describes the day as being a good day. What else have I been reading (besides forums)? The text to Geneforge 1, which I bought a half-year ago because it's the only GF game I haven't played beyond the demo (this is my second playthrough, decided to try and go without canisters). Also the text to a freeware game called Iji (which is pretty text-heavy, for an action-platformer). I recommend it to anyone who likes text and action/platforms. Also, maybe an extra hour (or five, as in my case).

  6. Could be a beta screenshot, it's off the G2 main page. I'm really stoked about Marian because I think it has immense potential to surpass Aquaria in every way.... which I'm sure we all realize is a difficult thing to do. I don't know if I'm allowed to say this, but it will not have free-range 3-D movement. We're still on an indie budget and aren't trying to do anything beyond our scope And it will (and already does) have amazing artwork, please have no fears about that! Short form: have faith! It may not be Aquaria 2, but it is a beautiful, ornate, fascinating story in an amazing world. Think Aquaria's prettier and more mature older sister." Anyway, I'm not really too bummed over Aquaria's unresolved to-be-continued ending. Making an immediate sequel is more of a "corporation" thing to do. They have the cash to blow on it, and in fact many end up splitting or taking away a part of their game, saying "this is for the sequel". Bit Blot doesn't really have any cushion funds to fall on if Aquaria 2 ended up failing to produce enough money. Besides, it's nice to take a creative break and then come back with something fresh.
  10. Yeah, I was talking about getting the fourth dream. Also, what happens when the clock runs out of time? Unrelated to Fallout, has anyone here played Aquaria?
  11. Actually, I believe the stolen stuff goes to one of the Den's merchants, not the bar lady. I remember wasting a lot of time on the Vault City/Gecko chain. So much so that I actually ran out of time on the GECK quest. Had to reload and get a car because of that, but the car's totally worth it. Also, I highly recommend going to San Francisco as soon as you can and helping the Brotherhood guy there. You can get BOS and Enclave power armor early on, and also some pretty useful weapons.

During a playthrough of G1, I noticed that a couple of names have meanings in Russian (or maybe another Eastern European language). Two that I remember are the servant mind in the Abandoned School whose name was Povralus, and a Sholai in the Refugee cave whose name was Solyniy(sp?) In Russian, Povralus could translate into "the liar" (a shame that he actually tells the truth) and Solyniy would pretty literally mean salted, or salty (covered in salt). I got a laugh when I read a dialogue that went something like "he points to himself and says "Solyniy" ".
  13. So are you looking for an rpg or just a really immersive game? (that could possibly be an rpg)

It's a common term to describe how it is that we can entertain ideas that we don't actually believe in, like magic and goblins. Suspension of belief would be like a Christian pretending to be an atheist for a while, to see what it felt like. The way I understood it is that he was implying that the phrase "immersion is broken" is synonymous to "my disbelief is suspended" which I thought was a typo. I'm assuming the way you understood it was that he was implying that "immersion" is synonymous to "my disbelief is suspended", which is true. Really, both could work in the context that he used them.
  16. Tried it just for the hell of it. Funny how many people don't want to talk to you when you don't have a webcam. What's also funny is that when you do find someone to talk to there's not really much to say. It should be text only, methinks.
  17. Originally Posted By: Alorael I'm also not entirely clear on why "immersion" is the goal of a game. I want to have fun, I want to enjoy the story and gameplay, and I want to be challenged. Nowhere in there is "immersion" a priority per se. IMO immersion is an important part of a good game. If Geneforge wasn't immersive you wouldn't care about whether it's ethical to enslave serviles and use canisters because none of it is real. Take for example Chess; Chess is all about gameplay, zero immersion. You don't play chess for the story, you play chess to challenge yourself and prove that you're better than whoever you're playing against. Traditionally, in a role-playing game you tend to play the role of someone, usually someone interesting. Without immersion that role-playing aspect disappears and all you're left with is gameplay. Even in a game like Rogue there is an "I am going through a dungeon" kind of sense of immersion. Rouge or Geneforge without any immersion would consist of "Fight this monster. These are your tactical options. Go." So maybe immersion isn't a goal for all games but it definitely is for an RPG. 18. Geneforge 2 was the first gf game I bought, although I did play the demo of g1 before that.
  19. Poor hungry unbound... looks like it's gonna have to make do with rebels
  20. I wouldn't think you can win. It's like playing Rouge without a final dungeon.
  21. I find that graphic shifting is different for all people. Some people are affected, others are not. I played G1 after completing G5 and found no problem getting used to the graphics and interface. However, sometimes I find that some of the graphics shared between the games(GF and Avernum) kind of diminish the experience for me. To clarify, when I see a mage in Avernum that has the same graphics as a shaper, minus the symbol, I still think "Shaper" in my head. Same goes for shared graphics with items and terrain. It just makes the world a little less unique.

Also, I have no idea what a Hecatonchire is, care to clarify?
  23. I've always wondered what a Facepalming Hecatombchire was... now I know.
  24. Actually those could apply to GF also. I wouldn't think one would worry much about hygiene when they have world domination to worry about. Especially if they glow.
