Yeah, it is a great laptop. Set me back a grand, but I figure it is still a great deal. And if it can last me the next 5-10 years, I will be happy When I don't use it I am keeping it in a box under my bed so it will still look like new haha

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834998051 I did some searching and decided this was a good one, because it had the highest newegg rating with more than 10 people rating it. Do you think that would do the trick? I am not sure how large you mean when you say "large diameter fans", because I really have no idea the average size of a cooling pad fan.
-
Haha I never have done that. I remember when I was younger hearing about people who had burned and discolored the skin on their thighs because they did that; when I finally got a laptop that was enough to scare me into never doing it. Thanks for the recommendation; I will avoid gel pads
-
I assume the first sentence you meant cooling pad rather than heating pad. What type of cooling pad do you have?
-
I am unsure as to whether or not I should get a cooling pad for my new laptop. My current laptop that I use overheats like crazy, but it still works with no damage that I can tell. I usually go on this laptop for several hours a day (many times up to 12+ hours) and have done so pretty regularly for the past 2 years, and it still works despite the startup warnings that "last time it did not shut off properly" or something along those lines. Anyways, my new laptop that I got is here: http://www.hhgregg.com/hp-envy-touchsmart-laptop-with-intel-core-i7-4710hq-processor/item/NV15K081NR All the specs are the same except mine has 12 GB DDR for some reason, I don't know if that would matter in your assessment but just in case. Anyways, not being a computer guy, I wanted to ask you guys whether or not that type of laptop would benefit from a cooling pad. I am only going to use that laptop for making music, but I will probably use it for several hours at a time when I do use it.

Sounds good, you're a lot smarter than me ha

Well yeah, it's obviously very productive. I am saying that if it were myself, it would be a ridiculous notion that I wouldn't even consider attempting, especially on an "off semester". I was having a stressful enough time with 4 classes, and they were business courses; some of those sound like they are more work intensive than what I was taking. Plus, classes run approximately $1000 where I go and it is not a big name university. I would not be fond of taking a class I did not need just for the experience. And I do not think a first year spanish class will be very helpful; if you are intent on putting on your resume that you understand a second language, you will need much more than just a semester of spanish. And math is a subject that if you do not keep up with it, you forget most of the concepts after a semester or two. At least that's how it is for me

That's your idea of fun? Taking 6 courses that don't even count to your degree? Are you rich, and/or don't need a job? I would go job searching, or spend a free semester getting caught up on videogames, or work on my hobbies. Anything but 10 hours a day doing schoolwork.

Always carry at least one orb of sight and/or sapphire around, so you can cast magic map. That way you don't miss any of the hidden areas in any dungeons, and even towns, cause there's a lot. Some dungeons won't allow you to cast magic map, but the orb of sight still works, so I'll try and buy as many of those from the random vendors as I can. Even outdoors, I'll use the orb of thrlani to fly through the mountains and island hop, cause he puts a lot of stuff outdoors too.

Who still plays EXILE III AND BLADES OF EXILE?
Vexivero replied to Ircher's topic in The Exile Trilogy
It wasn't a crashing issue, I just couldn't figure out how to run an emulator. I'm not a computer guy by any means, like a lot of people on here. My problem was that I thought you simply needed an emulator and that would allow you to run the game; rather, you need an emulator to install an older version of windows, and then you can install an older game using that older version of windows. I only recently figured that out. -
Who still plays EXILE III AND BLADES OF EXILE?
Vexivero replied to Ircher's topic in The Exile Trilogy
I'm 24 now; I first started playing this game because my dad used to find demo versions of games online for me to play, and this was the only game I kept coming back to. Originally, it was Exile: Escape From The Pit when I was I think 8. Then I eventually got curious and searched online for Spiderweb Software and came across their website, and started playing the other games. I only ever had the demo versions, though. So a little less than a year ago I decided I was going to finish all of the Spiderweb games I played as a kid once and for all, just to give some closure to myself. I haven't done that yet, but it's something that'll probably happen in the next few years or so. I've tried a few times over the past several years to get an emulator working so I could play the Exile series again, but every time I just couldn't figure it out. I finally buckled down and spent a few hours figuring it out probably a good 4-5 weeks ago, and finally got dosbox to run my stuff. I spent a few days playing the first Exile and then jumped to Exile 3. I've been playing that for about the past month, and I'll probably jump to BOE pretty soon. I've just been raiding the Troglo fortress (if you enter the Troglo fortress through the giant layer, they respawn every day, so you can kill the troglo lord every day and farm him for magic plates, lifeshields, or magic halberds and sell any for 2000 gold each) and reselling the loot to the merchant in Lorelei[Yes, I've been doing this exact same procedure for a few weeks now, sad I know lol], then farm the merchant for skill potions. So now, I have a god party. I can walk into any town and kill their guards fairly easily, but at the same time it's kind of taking the fun out of the game. So I'll probably switch games pretty soon. I don't think many people play it anymore; these forums are barely alive. But the Exile series is still the best imo. Nothing can beat a 6 person party. -
Lol, I don't know what anybody else thinks of this, but I found it hilarious But yeah I agree, I didn't like the feel of the second Avernum trilogy. It worked for Geneforge, but I think that's because there wasn't a "you move, I move" system like Avernum and Exile. I'm sure it's got a technical name, but I have no idea what that is. I found myself beating A4, and it was really fun, but the replay value just isn't there for me.

Completed every (steam) Spiderweb Game on Torment!
Vexivero replied to Juan Carlo's topic in General
Congratulations! That's a monumental achievement, something I'll probably never do. I myself have mostly stuck to the Exile series, first Avernum trilogy, and Geneforge games, although I haven't bought the Geneforge bundle yet. I feel if I do, I'll put it above my other priorities and won't stop until I finish; 5 Games could take some time to complete. I also played the really old Nethergate once, but never the remake. If you want to waste even more time, I'd suggest getting an emulator and playing the Exile games. Spiderweb has released all of them for free now, too. Respawning dungeons and 6 person parties ensure you'll waste a lot more time on this game than any of the newer ones. I'd suggest playing both the remakes and the originals, though. Just like Avernum was a remake of Exile and AEFTP is a remake of Avernum, they have the same storyline but the gameplay is vastly different. At the very least, you can get the demos and see how you like the gameplay. Tbh I'm not a fan of the first Avernum, but A2 and A3 I really liked. -
Ha, that stuff still works? I thought companies prevented you from doing that nowadays. Thanks sylae, I'll check it out. Still open to new and better options, although Vegas seems to be the one right now.

I've been doing some research and sorting everything out in the past hour or so...looks like I'll be going with Vegas. Thanks Gwynbleidd

I'm guessing someone on here has done some sort of video editing before, so I'm looking for suggestions on what type of video editor I should get. I've never messed around with a video editor before, but here's all I need it to do: --Be able to place images into the video --Merge the video with an mp3 track. So the original video footage I took would be muted, and in place you would hear a song. Any suggestions? Thanks

Nope it's just a dungeon. Kill the quickghast. You can ask him 'teet'(h) and he'll attack you, but you can just go ahead and attack him first it doesn't matter. There's a secret door behind him with a button. You can escape without doing the center, but if you have move mountains you can enter the center of the crypt and kill Gorvifal.

Just to clarify for anybody else who might stumble upon this, you can put a Dark Wyrm in your Soul Crystal using a hex editor, but the graphics are screwed up. I think this happens cause I'm running it on dosbox, but more times than not when I try to summon it it'll freeze my game.

This is what I took away from this thread

Yeah, it's like an advanced paint, so at least I'm not totally in the dark about what to do. I've been messing around with it and there's a lot of foreign stuff, but I'm starting to get a grasp on how to do the stuff I want to do. I think I'll stick with GIMP for now
-
Thanks for the quick responses! I'll be sure to check them all out, but I'll probably give GIMP a shot first since all three of you mentioned it

I have NO experience with using photo editing software whatsoever. In fact I took my old version of MS Paint and installed it on my newer computers because It was something I was familiar with and I didn't need to use any advanced functions. I'm not looking to do anything crazy with the graphics I'm editing, I just need to do lesser stuff that paint is incapable of, like changing the hue of a picture (like if it is a bluish picture, change it to a reddish color), and removing the background of a picture so it's completely white. I'm guessing there's at least one or two people who are proficient using stuff like this, so any recommendations on photo editors for that sort of stuff? Also, I don't mind paying for software either, but if there's something free without a trial I'll take that too. I just want something quality that'll make it easy for me to adjust my graphics.

Eh you're right. I could've sworn I caught that dragon near the slime cave in a previous run.. Then again, that might've been Avernum 3, or I probably just attempted it. I was looking forward to pissing off a town and summoning a swarm of wyrms to wreck everybody
-
Just wondering if anybody has been able to capture it in a soul crystal? I'd really like to get it if it's possible.

Summoning is useful when you fight monsters that drain your spell points, like Mung Demons and Eyebeasts, cause they'll drain whoever is next to them. Even then, though, you probably don't need them if you have an advanced party. Otherwise, it's fun to summon a bunch of creatures to fight for you just to stretch out the combat. —Vexivero, who almost never summons as well. In the Exile series, his parties usually end up becoming so overpowering that summoning is a ridiculous option. Once one acquires the spells Avatar and Antimagic Field, it is basically game over for any foe.
