Not sure why it's a tie with everyone else though. It does pretty low damage in Exile. You could stand in it for hours with healing spells. Also, I think area effect spells would work through it.
I was counting it as a tie because eventually both sides will die. (I think once quickfire's spread a bit it's not possible to dispel it fast enough to stop it)

The Exile party uses its prep time to surround themselves with a ring of force barriers, and casts quickfire outside the ring.
Wins against everyone from a game without Dispel Barrier, ties against the others.

Never have I so much regretted losing my superpowers.

How am I supposed to answer the last question if I found Dark Souls easier than Witcher II?
-
Well of course. His machine should not expect to run very well Thief 4, or next generation of games. That trouble on Thief 4 is expected.
But he should not be having such troubles at Witcher 2. His machine is worthy to play that one fine, so I think we can try to help him troubleshoot to what is the problem on that one.
He's below the minimum system requirements for it, so I wouldn't really expect much in the way of performance.

"It's fast in the menus and slow during the actual game" is not the sort of slowdown that indicates a memory leak.
It's also unlikely that the problem is caused by the page file.

Note that an SSD, although amazing for reducing load times and whatnot, will have essentially no effect on the FPS you get.
The limiting factor is probably the graphics hardware. Integrated graphics tends to be pretty weak compared to a separate graphics card, and options for a laptop are rather limited anyway compared to on a desktop.

I would love less predictability in item drops. Not many people would just replay the same battle/event over and over again just to get a better item. It would defeat the purpose of surprise and variability that I find so interesting about the concept in the first place.
So you haven't played the Diablo games then?

It's more likely to be a crappy radio/antenna in your laptop than the OS.
You can get external antenna that helps when reception is bad (eg this sort of thing)

Human babies are already about as undeveloped as they can get without problems. Premature babies require special care and have a much higher mortality rate than full-term babies.
Lay more eggs to make up for it.

When I need to tell which direction is left, I just grab some cobalt-60 and watch the beta decay.

I don't want to learn Russian, because then it would annoy me too much when things were written in fake яussiaи

You did get a +1. Look at the number under your avatar, just before the word "posts".

RPGs need towns, because they're by far the best place to set NPCs on fire

Greg Egan wrote a novel (Schild's Ladder) where that happens (although it happens at half the speed of light so there can be a story).
It's pretty cool.

Which, come to think of it, is pretty much what we here in the US have now, except only one party seems to have effective internal discipline...
Which one? I assume you mean the one you like the least?

That does seem to be the case. I'm still not sure why, though. What's so great about swords? In what sense does the idea of a sword 'work'?
I've always assumed it's because stabbing is one dimensional but slashing is two dimensional so you have a better chance of hitting.

The annoying thing is that it isn't hard to encrypt those mails, since most script languages have gnupg bindings.
But most users don't have (or care enough to get) the capability to read encrypted emails.

What Exile/Avernum you begin with ?

I started off with the demo of Exile I. I didn't actually like it all that much and preferred Realmz. But somehow I came back to Exile, and played the demos of I-III.
Blades of Exile was the first one I actually bought, and it was very much worth the money.
