  1. If wer'e already talking of wolves, what's your take about "Grimm"? Myself I'm halfway through the first season and so far I like it.
  2. Usually you can be sure after two weeks, call them back once at the end of the first week, if they still give you the run around about waiting to review more candidates then it's probable that you are not very high on their list.
  3. In A5, unlike any game previously, the unlock spell is used to remove the arcane part of the lock while tool use is used to actually force open the lock; they are completely unconnected. Therefore giving your mage the tool use job will probably make him lag behind in arcane levels (or so to speak).
  4. A4 is pretty much A3 but in the underworld with the addition that the empire has mellowed down and so there are dissidents who want the empire to be cold and ruthless once more. in A5 you play a group of empire soldiers sent to hunt down the dissidents and in the end decide whether you want to kill the dissident's leader or kill the general who sent you on your perilous quest. In A6 you find out that Jeff decided that in A5 you killed the dissident's leader
  5. Does having two houses of government (federal congress and senate) actually help balance the system? I could never quite understand this.
  6. I shudder at the thought of Larry Nivenn's supposed Galactic shockwave being actually true and not just an imaginary plot device

Anyway, I am kind of confused by what you mean as proof. *If you mean proof as in scientific proof, then you need to remember that sociology and state sciences are very soft sciences. As you probably know it is very hard to prove something in a science like physics then let alone in the social sciences mainly because, as House puts it, people lie. Even if you put the surveys anonymously people are more incentivized to lie to you about their ill-doings because it will mean a higher chance of them being caught the next time. *If you mean proof in the legal sense then ** Firstly you must assume that both parties are innocent until proven guilty (as is practiced in modern law) until sufficient proof of their ill-doings are shown to the contrary, which, if as is you say is unattainable, holds them all as innocent of the act. And as I see it, modern law is set up to protect people from being wrongly accused and the rich who can hire enough lawyers to swamp the opponent side with enough useless information to prevent them from reaching the core of their inquiry and that are charming enough to convince either judge or jury (depending on the type of tribunal) that an alien could have done it and made it look as if their client did it. But since we have no better system we have to make do with the current one which at least grants some protection to the innocent. **In order to show their guilt you must show motive, means, and a "body" or the act itself. ***The motive is held by any voter, superpac and party, to win. However another motive might be to sully your opponent by sending people under the pretense of his name to commit voting fraud. ***The means is money and manpower, that while they might not swim the English Channel for their candidate, will jump through hoops if it might mean getting him elected. ***The act itself is the big question, and if you actually do catch someone in the act, how can you tell which motive drove him?! For all you know the party that knew he will be caught, set up a deal to open a bank account in one of the offshore banks in his name and place 750000$ for each year he will spend in jail or prison and be given to him when he is released. I had it better framed in my mind but it is late and I'm tired, so I will leave you with this for now.
  8. What I could never understand is why if a company is doing great but the stock all of a sudden plummets, the company may find itself in dire straits.
  9. If wer'e already on the subject of voting and voting rights for foreigners this is how they do it in The City of London: Which is separate from London the city as can be seen here:

  11. True or False? Eating vegetables while eating meat or poultry is bad for you because the acid level required to break down the meat in the stomach ferments and spoils the vegetables.
  12. Good bye ratt, I hope you have a great time in college

  14. Well, I can see how they may add the Exile and first Aver trilogies, the nethergate games and maybe the first 3 geneforges that now have problems running on modern computers, but the newer games seem out of scope for GoG (as the name implies) so I don't know if you should expect those to be ported, they don't need GoGs magic touch. Anyway I'm glad someone took my suggestion from a while back to use their expertise of turning unplayable games (machine wise) into playable again
  15. From what I've gathered from the conversations in these forums is that at the end of A6, the kingdom is pretty much destroyed, with half of it belonging to the Slith, the other half belonging to the dragon and the rest to the Vahnati. There is no Avernum for Jeff to make a game in. By the time the Empire succeed in rebuilding the portal it would probably already belong to Melanchion and as he is not very hostile and the Empire has become more docile and respectful of other races, they will probably won't try to rebuild Avernum which is and was (coupled with the Vahnati) their greatest enemy. The only way I can see a sequel is if it will be Avernum 7 : Reconquest of the Abyss. 400 years in the future an emperor rises which reflects the old thoughts and attitudes of the old emperors and one of the descendants of Melanchion has ticked him off and so he sends an army to take over the Abyss once more and tap into its unfathomable riches. Now just incorporate a band of adventurers like was done in A5 and you have your backstory.
  16. I've read the first book but couldn't continue it was just too grotesque for me and the ending at the desert too weird. I guess I just don't have the stomach for so much intrigue. I do still wander what is the enemy from the north, but not enough that I would go through 2 more books of backstabbing and kid kicking. (insert short clip of Kyle kicking Ike here)

I apologize if this annoys you, but for me playing BG2 even with the pause turn option was extremely confusing. I could never understand when someone was busy doing something (such as casting a spell) or whether he finished doing it and whether it failed or succeeded ; and to top that it always seemed that by the time any of my casters finished casting their first spell the enemy has already dished out three (which lasted four times longer than any of mine), half my group was paralyzed another quarter was held and the rest were charmed. Having a small carriage capacity didn't help, I will always prefer the old castle of the winds setup for item carrying, a backpack where the number of items that can be stored is dependent on their size and their weight not a set number of slots, and a free hand where you can carry something else if so you wish (and if you're strong enough it's another backpack). All in all (and again this is only my experience) it was a bad and frustrating experience for me.
  18. I'll pass, the reason I like Jeff's games is because they are turn based, not real time, it seems most of the games these guys did were real time.
  19. here's something a friend just posted: A comathematician is a device for turning cotheorems into ffee
