So they were a distraction? That's kind of ironic. I always figured message boards in general were just giant distractions. Well, at least now people won't be distracted from the main distraction.

I agree, *i. I actually wasn't being sarcastic in the bit you quoted. Schools should definitely be able to filter things on their computers. I guess I got a little off topic going into censorship, which is totally different, as Enraged Slith said. An important similar topic, none the less.

This might not be what you meant, but I don't think the government should be able to censor anything in people's homes. We've reached a level of technology where censorship should be by household, not national. I don't even like how radio and TV are so heavily censored. Schools and businesses, on the other hand can filter as they wish, their house, their rules. Yeah, I know public schools are the government, but they need to assume there is at least one kid with very conservative parents and plan for that kid. Can't have him seeing his first pair on a state owned machine, God forbid. Chose "I said no" in the third question even though child porn was mentioned in one of the answers. Child porn isn't so much censored/filtered as it is straight up illegal. It simply existing is illegal, as it should be, so censorship shouldn't even be an issue there.

You think Josefo's stuff is more realistic? More detailed maybe, but the proportions are all distorted and cartoony, with the tiny feet and huge, cringing faces. They also look meaner in general which I like atmosphere-wise. You're right though, in saying that it's got a different feel to it. Definitely darker. Maybe not what Jeff's looking for.

The children take their stolen wares to the lady who runs the bar. Walk past the children while in combat mode to avoid getting pick-pocketed.

Infiltration successful. It was hilarious. I highly recommend a stupid play through for both Fallout 1 and 2. I don't think 3 is the same in this manner. Edit: Oh, for ammo, kill the two merchants in the Den, the second town you go to. You get all kinds of guns and drugs (which are as good as cash) from them, and no one in town will care that you took them out. If you still need more ammo, that's exactly what all those random encounters with mercenary groups are for!

Wow, Josefo's characters remind me of the old Aeon Flux cartoons. That's a win in my book.

I don't mean to rag on you, I just think it would be terribly tragic if you missed out on the rest of that awesome game, especially if you liked the first. In the first town you visit, in the house of the guy your supposed to meet, you can just steal his BB gun, he won't mind. Though you'll probably want to barter that to the bartender for a real 9mm, and then take any left over cash to the bathhouse when you've finally got your gun. The ladies love a guy that's strapped. Man, that game was so great.

I also thought it was great that you got to both work for him and get the option to kill him in the end. Every character should be like that. Gladwell gets my vote. I also respect Solberg for making the ultimate sacrifice for his country. As for characters like X, being mysterious and having little face time with PCs leaves a lot of room for interpretation. They had as much personality as one assigned to them. I didn't assign too much. Not one of those overly creative types, I guess.

A6 - 2nd Set of Quests from the Castle [spoilers]

Hmm, the second set of quests involves: the Tower Colony, Almaria, and the Western Excavation. I'm not sure which of those two you did, as the portal quest is not part of the set, but you should be able to do whichever one you didn't do regardless. In fact, I'd recommend it, as it's always good to do all quests available. For the Almaria quest, speak to the mayor of Almaria. It sounds like you didn't go beyond Fort Remote yet, though, so you're more likely looking for the Western Excavation. Pass Fort Remote, go all the way north through the caves beyond. It's quite a journey, but at the end of that path you will find those you're looking for. -
You can kill them. It will net you an egg sack for Gladwell. That frees you up to kill the other GIFTS without even talking to them.

I remember having trouble finding that pylon. I'm pretty sure it had something to do with the way explored land is the same color as unexplored land, so it is often difficult to tell if a cut off tunnel is unexplored, blocked, or a stairway down. If I had to pick one thing for Jeff to change in his newer games, it would be to make explored lands a different color. -
If you don't have any paper cones on hand, a instead. That's why I always keep a couple of them in my wallet.

It might be worth mentioning that one does not need to speak with Gall at all to advance the main plot. I killed Hrramen-Drayssa before learning about Gall but it did not ruin my game like I thought it would. You can still rescue the other Drayssa and get the message without talking to any of these people, it seems.

Burning implies changing the molecular structure of something. Ice melts when fire is involved, but water has the same molecular structure as ice, so it did not actually burn while melting. There might be some kind of process that involved turning frozen H2O into something that is not water that I do not know of. No, ice can not be set on fire if that's what you are asking. Mainly because ice does not exist at the same temperatures that fire exists at. Technically neither of them exist at room temperature.

So 45% of people prefer Open Worlds to the 10% who prefer linear ones. Unless nearly all of the New and Crazy voters prefer linear worlds, that means most people preferred the open worlds. I wonder if this is because they don't realize that linearity is necessary to tell a good story, or if they just genuinely prefer openness and options to following a single plot. I actually feel that way myself, playing a game doesn't need to be like watching a movie for me, it can have next to no plot and I can still have a great time wandering around doing odd quests and such. Avernum 5 and Dark Waters felt like movies to me, with the plot moving in a single direction no matter what you did. No openness. I guess I agree with the majority here in saying I prefer that openness to linearity. No matter how good a story is, I play rpgs to make decisions, you know?
