  1. Each change would be for one tile. These would be for small changes such as adding stairs or trap doors to lead to your second town, not for major things like redoing buildings. Edit: The main post has been edited to clarify this.
  2. Quote: Specify "changes". Not quite sure what you mean by that...
  3. A while back I made a post in the New Contest Ideas thread suggesting a contest where each of the contestants has to make a scenario taking place in the starter town, Warrior's Grove, and without changing any terrain, but the contestants are allowed to add as many characters, items and special encounters as they want in order to make an original scenario. The idea is that the scenarios would be short, and not a lot of work to make. After thinking the idea over I decided to make a few changes to the original rules. The new rules are as follows: 1. The scenario must take place in the starter town, Warrior's Grove. The town boundaries will be set to the edge of town so the party cannot access any outdoor sections. 2. You are allowed to make 5 changes to the terrain of Warrior's Grove. A "change" would constitute modifying a single tile, not a larger area. These changes would mainly be for adding entrances to your second town. You can also make changes to the default graphics. Each graphics change counts as 2 changes, unless the custom graphic only appears once in the town. Torches are a free terrain, so you can add as many torches to the town as you need. 3. You can make as many changes as you want to characters, items, encounters, and scripts. The only changes that count towards the 5 are changes to floors, terrain and graphics inside of the starter town. Sign text can also be changed without counting to your 5 changes. 4. You are allowed 1 large-size town of your own, which can be connected to Warrior's grove by using the move_to_new_town() call. There are no restrictions regarding custom graphics, terrains or characters used in this town. If you think anything about the rules should be changed or clarified, say so. I have created a very simple Warrior's Grove scenario entitled Bats in the Belfry. It can be downloaded here. (Same version for Mac and PC since there's no custom graphics.) Obviously I didn't put a ton of work into it; its sole purpose is to illustrate the concept of a Warrior's Grove scenario. It should take five minutes or less to beat. Would anyone be interested in participating in/judging for such a contest? If not, what are some other contest ideas?
  4. Keys are special items. They won't appear in your inventory. You can see them by going into your journal (click the icon of the book at the bottom of the screen) and then viewing Special Items. That's where it will show which keys you have. To use a key, just click on the door it opens and it will open automatically. Probably you're just trying to open the wrong doors if it says you don't have the right key. Are you sure there's only 2 other locked doors?
  5. I just finished Peter Watts's Blindsight for the second time. It's by far the best hard science fiction book I've ever read. I started reading Starfish but it's just not as good.
  6. I say, to be fair, we keep it simple and say every review is worth 1 point, no matter what. This will make the scoring easier to keep track of, and it will make sure no one holds out on posting reviews for extra points.
  7. Well, if people choose to wait so they can post their review as the fifth, they could run out of points, couldn't they?
  8. So, what's the deal? Are we definitely doing a scenario play-through contest, or what? I think we should set up a group chat on AIM so we can work out the details sometime soon.
  9. I would have volunteered, but I'm honestly terrible at combat and I don't really play BoE all that often. If that's not a problem, then I guess I could help. Duck in a Top Hat manbehindthecurtain.n-at-gmail.com Almost None
  10. Quote: Or we could set a few gameplay rules, make a path of scenarios to accomplish, and see how far people could get without reloading I like this idea, but I'm almost certain I wouldn't get too far.
  11. A scenario playthrough contest could be fun, too, and it might help me get back into designing, since I've been running out of ideas lately.
  12. Quote: I think you'd have to allow sign text to be edited; what about items? Yeah, the only thing that I think should not be allowed to be edited is the terrain (including webs and crates). Characters, items, scripts, special encounters, sign text, and even the starting location could all be changed. Also, I think designers should be allowed to make small changes using set_terrain() and set_floor() calls, but nothing huge like completely redrawing the town.
  13. How's this for a contest idea: Everyone starts a new scenario, including the basic starter town, Warrior's Grove. Then, after deleting all characters, special encounters, dialogue, area descriptions, etc., and without changing any of the terrain, everyone makes a 1-town, 0-outdoor section scenario by adding as many characters, encounters and dialogue as they want. I think this would be better for a short contest, as we could all realistically be done within at least two weeks. Plus we would probably get a lot more finished products than with the last contest.
  14. My scenario (The Black Crown, Part One) is already available at my Blades website and on the Blades Forge.
  15. Am I the only person who doesn't like the idea of working with someone else's ideas?
  16. Oh, I was thinking that you meant we'd all contribute to a single scenario. I actually like the idea of doing multiple scenarios and passing them along, but it might get a little confusing with all of the loose ends. My main concern is that we could run into problems with mixing up SDFs, so the scenarios would all have to be extremely linear. And how would we judge that contest, anyway, if the scenarios were all shared efforts?
  17. I think if we were to do a contest where the scenario was passed along, we would have to come up with a general premise/plot together, instead of letting the first designer come up with all the details. That said, I'm not sure I like the idea of a contest where we pass it along. If we did something like that, we would end up with only one new scenario, full of plot flaws and inconsistencies. I think it's better to just let designers do individual scenarios and end up with more high-quality scenarios.
  18. I think a contest where everyone has to incorporate the snow tileset could be cool, or christmas-themed scenarios. I think variations on the same scenario would be a little bit boring, since no one wants to play the same scenario over and over again. (Maybe we could have a group AIM chat like with the last contest to work out the details once we have a basic idea.)
  19. I think the fountain graphic you're talking about might be here. Just scroll down to the bottom, and it's part of a larger sheet.
  20. Sorry I haven't gotten an epilogue in yet, I was just waiting for the log since I missed the ending. I'll send it soon.
  21. I had that problem before when making a cutscene. Are you sure that you used erase_text_bubbles() before each new text bubble on a character?
  22. I finished Blindsight by Peter Watts a while ago, and absolutely loved it. Since then I picked Starfish up from the library, but I'm not liking it as much. The writing is very dry for a book taking place entirely underwater.
  23. Quote: I will need a friendly, delightful soul to do the Mac conversion for me. I emailed you a converted graphics file.
  24. Yeah, I intended to post it in the review forum in the first place.
