  1. Thanks Lilith, or Thriel, or what ever name you go by now.

Actually I've been spending my time donating to bake sales lately. I've raised over 1k for my charity and I'm quite happy.

As far as flamers mentioned above, you're probably the worst. If any single person chased me away from this site, it's you. For what it's worth...

I was not a big fan of A6 or Avadon (thought I bought both), but quite enjoyed AEftP. To each their own.

Not only very true, but by far the best response I've received on this forum. To each their own.
  3. I haven't logged in for quite a few months due to the very negative reaction I received from the community about my comments for Avadon. I'll admit, I wasn't thrilled about Jeff making a remake of a remake for the upcoming game. But I decided to check it out.

I see now many different prices for Avernum Escape from the pit on several different websites. Not to mention, there's no demo version for the iPad and that's a completely different price. I thought, starting with Avadon, Jeff switched to a universal system that I could use regardless of my platform once I bought the game. Guess not.

I remember Jeff's blogs where he defended his price scheme and said to hell with opinions otherwise. Seems he caved.

I've watched Jeff, an extremely talented game developer, go from great to crap in two years. Not to mention his community flamers make you feel unwelcome if you express your point of view. I will not be buying the new Avernum. Sorry.

No he doesn't. He simply provides you with the opportunity to do so. It's entirely up to you as to whether you are willing to commit mass abortion in order to obtain a non-critical game item.

Sure, the sliths may be at war with humans, but that doesn't excuse a crime of this magnitude. Just imagine what would happen if the sliths did a thing like that to a human village, the people of Avernum would be enraged and rightly so, but in reverse its ok? How is killing a bunch of babies going to be of any help to the war?

As a previous poster pointed out, this isn't some sort of political or ideological war with established rules of engagement. It's a no holds barred war of survival. Avernum is a harsh, barren land, and both the sliths and humans are not living their by choice. There is a finite amount of space in the caves, and both sides have spilt blood for every inch of territory taken. If the slith savages had the opportunity, they would indeed kill Avernite civilians. This is shown conclusively in Avernum 6.

It's easy for you to get all high and mighty about them taking drastic measures to survive, but at the end of the day, its either Avernum or the slith savages.

Why should you be able to have your cake and eat it too?

It's worse, Jeff rewards you for killing babies...

    Good job
  5. Slarty, I don't think torment should be removed. I think it should be adjusted to provide more options. I don't think it should be easy. I don't think it should be hard. I just think it should be playable to those that have warmed up to Spiderweb games.

As far as other games go, well we're really in another ballpark. I really liked Escalon 2 (well the story was awesome until the end, but mechanics were great and difficulty was up to the player).

Anyways, to clarify, I don't cheat, and I never will. Thanks for the constructive input.

  6. Well, thanks for being a bit more reasonable in your responses, maybe I didn't make myself clear enough to begin with so if that's the case I apologize.

I guess I'm taking more of a comparative approach to Geneforge which, perhaps I shouldn't do. I'll admit, the respec feature is a great addition. But, as you highlight, the middle path seems to be the only correct path for advancement.

Anyways, I'm offering my input because I think I appreciate Jeff's games as much as you do. Thanks for your responses.

  7. It’s interesting to see the utter lack of interest some of you have in evaluating the specific complaints of people playing this game. I guess it’s easier to say you’re an idiot for playing on this difficulty level than actually understand why someone is having difficulty.

I offered my opinion because I’ve played the Geneforge games on torment, and I enjoyed it. The Geneforge games were challenging, and yes, sometimes aggravating. But in Geneforge there were options. If you got stuck somewhere, you could go somewhere else. There were many ways to build your characters. Oh, and I remember, when I did a torment play-through on Geneforge 5 and commented on how I didn’t use mental magic, I was flamed as well because nobody thought it was possible.

In Avadon, there are not as many choices. The plot is linear. If you get stuck, where do you go? I guess I just need to play exactly like Lilith and everything will be great. Maybe some of you should listen instead of being so condescending. It’s not appreciated, and it’s making me question whether or not I’ll be back in the future.

  8. Hey, I have respect for what all the mods claim about the game. I'm sure most of you do find torment easy. In fact, I'm sure there's a strong correlation between being a mod and being a beta tester. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm just wondering, are you mods the market for Jeff's games? Is your experience comparable to what the average gamer experiences? I'm pointing this out because it seems as though it's been an issue since Avernum 6. You can discount my opinion (and others, though I don't speak for them), but are you really helping Jeff build a better game? Maybe..I don't know.

No Slarty, I think the appropriate analogy would be it's like encouraging amateur athletes to compete in professional sports. That, I'm sure, would encourage them to quit.

Let me clarify Lilith. The game is not difficult on torment, it's unplayable.

Maybe for you. Plenty of us enjoy Torment. But it's not for everyone.

Frankly, it's hard to think of a one-word description that would capture this idea ("many people will find it unplayable, but some will enjoy the challenge") better than "Torment".

This statement is probably quite accurate from what I've read on the forums here recently.

I have to question then why the newly added "metals" portion of the game would actually guide or encourage "many people," or in other words many customers, to play an unplayable game. Do you think that was Jeff's strategy for good customer retention?
  11. I think I have to agree with the above statement about playing a different game on a different difficulty level. My first playthrough on normal was great, I rated the game a B. On my torment playthrough, I rate the game a D. I'm probably going to stop playing, I reload far too often and win battles far to infrequently. I've played geneforge and avernum games on torment before and never had this much difficulty. I haven't even gotten to the difficult fights yet. Unfortunately this good game gets an F in balance. Hopefully this improves in the future.

  12. I've finally had some time to play through Avadon and I thought I'd share my thoughts. Overall I rate it a B. For comparison I'd rate Avernum 6 a B- and Geneforges 1,2, and 5 an A+.

The plot was well done for the most part. It had new ideas and maintained Jeff's underlying "Evil Empire" theme. I didn't find my first playthrough on Normal too hard or too easy, but I'm finding my playthrough now on Torment pretty challenging. I find it much better balanced that Avernum 6. The medal achievements were a nice addition, but I agree with an earlier post that they shouldn't be difficulty based.

The linear plot was a bit disappointing. I hit the level 30 cap way too early and it wouldn't have been so bad, but there were many skills that were unattainable at 30. There definitely should have been levels available beyond 30, even if the experience requirement was sharply raised.

Just my thoughts. Thanks for the game.

  13. You can do the same with Macallan in Stonespire. Just be sure to close the door behind you before you talk to her so she doesn't run off. Once you complete the "Contact Khyryk" quest you'll get experience. If the door behind you is closed she won't leave and you can repeat the dialog again and again. You can do this trick if you're a rebel or shaper, just make sure you don't turn Macallan in before completing the quest. If you're a rebel, you can still turn her in after you're done taking advantage of the ...well whatever you want to call it.

  14. It's interesting you post this question, I once wondered the same about my servile. My servile would get stunlocked every time, and I mean every time, with submission turrets. Although I can't offer any quantitative data, I didn't notice the same effect on other playthroughs (I admit not always an apples to apples comparison). While I have no hard facts to back up my support of your claim, I agree 100%

  15. I think most of what you want to do is possible. I always used to join alwan's faction first for the shaping skills.

You need to join Taygen's faction to get into the Dera vault portion with the healing skill canister, yes. Also you'll need to join Astoria or Ghaldring for the "break the line" quest. Control core B can be accessed without joining Alwan, but the quest will be exactly opposite that of Litalia's (you can do both though).

You can still talk to Alwan and Astoria after leaving their factions if you want to get the Trakovite ending.

I'm pretty sure ending with Ghaldring's faction is safe no matter what you do (besides attacking him).

Don't forget to loot the foundry section for each faction you join.

Don't ever answer a reputation question until you absolutely know you need to. You can save these up and use them to switch factions at will.

If you plan to join Tagen, you can still kill Platano after you do the "aid Platano" quest and join his faction after you do so.

If you have any other pointers, let me know. Good luck.

PS - craft 5 or so charms - ghlaak eye + lightning gem + demon bile + rotghroth fang

  16. This is pretty cool.

Items 499 and above are not real game items, but they still give the strange tiles. Some you can equip and some are useable. For example item522 is a D sword that you can equip in the cape area. Lots of fun to be had...

Actually though be warned, many of the items will lag the game unbelievably. Clicking on others will crash the game. There are stable items 499 and above, but there are many that are not.

  17. I agree to an extent. While A5 is a big improvement on A4, A6 is..eh..mediocre at best.

The Geneforge series is fantastic. A4-6 I can live without.

I'm looking forward to the new series myself. Jeff has a lot more talent than most game writers out there. Let's hope for the best.

  18. The spiders go hostile anyways after you take the eggs. They don't immediately go hostile, but when you return they are all red little spiders. I stole the eggs before I did the dragon shaman quest, now I can't get credit for the quest.

Am I the only one sick by this game? While the story line is ok, I'm not enjoying it anywhere near as much as other Spiderweb games. Some parts are insanely hard and all the missed quests and/or bugs are annoying. I may put this game aside for a while..
