That was probably only a *filler*; an excuse for spamming through a signature. The links had nothing to do with Spidweb's games Yeah, but you get custom resolution setting software on the web, you might want to try those.

Yes, its difficult not being able to join in when the mac-users are celebrating. But it would be much better if, when the windows version comes out, a new, fresh & from-the-start forum is begun, exclusively for windows, instead of us having to use the existing one which already has 259 threads. This way, we are not deprived of the the pleasure of posting. Someone begins to say something and then a mac user, who has been following the Aeftp forum from its infancy, puts in some full-stopping post like "We've already discussed this issue.Check before you post."

(S-SM-IA) Okay, but what are my options ?

I like Spambots - just think how dull life would be without them. In any forum, they provide that occasional distraction which we all crave for. Poke them all you want, they'll never poke back . PS : Of course, that doesn't mean I encourge spammers. -
(S-SM-IA) So I calmed the Alpha down. What are my options ? I had come over here to investigate the case of the missing shaper. Can the Battle Alpha talk? I ask it "Creation, who is your master? And where is he?"

I don't think he's a bot. He didn't put in links (major giveaway!!!) or even drop names in that dental treatise of his. We're probably hurting the poor chap's feelings. First post and all, with a suggestion included, and all we do is question his originality by hurling accusations at his face. So he likes to write dental treatises-great-we tell him politely that we are RPG maniacs and are not exactly as interested in them as he seems to think, and then suggest (diplomatically) that he is *perhaps* in the wrong forum and then, to be even more helpful, we find an online dental community and put him into it.

Creations without a human around. Rogues, of course. Usually I would have attacked without thinking, but something tells me that this battle, if it comes to that, won't be a walkover. I approach the battle alpha and say "Creation, move out of my way."

@MMXPERT: Which RPG games have you played?
-
(I'm a typically arrogant loyalist shaper.Hm, this game is becoming very interesting.) I express my strong disapproval in having them call him "friends". That isn't ideal shaper mentality; serviles should always be afraid of their masters, which is the only way to ensure total obedience. I warn him that if he continues in this way, he'll be thrown out of his post. Or worse, that he'll be considered a rebel. ("And should I elaborate on how we treat rebels.....?") I create a roamer, and take the road to the hills in search of the missing shaper.

While success in RTS depends on your facing the oncoming enemy horde with mouse-quickness and dexterity with the keyboard (action oriented), in the turn-based ones like Avernum and Geneforge you can carefully consider your options, while sitting comfortably on a couch with a cup of coffee. Makes a lot of difference to whether you come out victorious.

So its only a technical issue and not any kind of secret society (not that I really believed it was anything like that of course, but still, I was wondering).

My Vlish and I escort the servile back to the southern town, intending to take it back to its caretaker.

Oh, yeah. (S-SM-IA) (Surprise : I thought this was one of those roamer-with-the-gem fooled-you situations.) Anyway, I create a couple of vlish, and attack. Starting with the icy roamer.

Hi, you must be a pure avernite. Haven't seen you over at the Geneforge forums. I notice that there are several members over here who have registered exactly at 12:00 pm. Surely, it can't be a coincidence.I suppose you wait until the clock ticks twelve, and then click the register button ? Though the idea is rather amusing, it does look pretty good on the profile. Edit : Actually, all of the moderators have apparently joined at 12:00 pm, so my assumption doesn't hold true. What is this all about ?

(S-SM-IA) I take the path leading off the road. But what about my unfinished fight with Trenton the Servile ? :whine: And whats a batterang ?
-
Too slow, my friend. My turn. I yawned (Forgot to mention that I'm an experienced shaper and have seen a lot of these kind of things). Then I looked at my Vlish, casually pointed a finger at you, and said "mmpf" (elaborate commands are quite unnecessary). My vlish, with a flick of a lazy tentacle, cast a charm spell which completely controlled your mind (servile that you are) and made you raise your blade to your own neck and cut it off. Harsh, I know, but that's shapers for you.
-
Right. So lets play. Do we select a move based on our attributes? If so, I create a Vlish to help me in the battle. And then I retreat to a safe distance (couple of steps - I'm a shaper after all). Your turn. (PS : I would liked to have cast a war blessing too, but I'm sure the shaping cost me all my AP)

They don't reproduce (at least in the stories), but they do come in both male and female varieties. They were humans in their past lives, but they sinned, so they got recreated as Asuras. Alamvusha was an evil rakshasa who fought for the Kauravas. He used his shape-changing abilities to trick and kill the son of Arjuna (Arjuna is one of the Pancha Pandavas). Alamvusha was killed by Ghatothkacha, the rakshasa-son of Bhima (brother of Arjuna & member of the Pancha Pandavas). Ghatothkacha was killed by Karna, brother (but rival) of the Pandava brothers using a divine arrow, which he had saved up for his fight against Arjuna, but was forced to use it against Ghatothkacha instead as the rakshasa was turning the tides in the Pandavas' favour. All this is part of the Mahabhaaratha("Great War") between the five Pandava brothers and the hundred Kaurava brothers. (well, didn't mean to go so deep, but couldn't help myself )

You'll probably have time to play through all of the second trilogy, maybe even twice if you're good at it. The ETA is 2 years, from what I was told*. hm, always wanted to do this kind of thing. okay, so I take Shaper, Shaping-Magic and Infiltrator/Assassin.

I was pleasantly surprised to find "Rakshasas" in Avernum; It's a term I've been hearing from childhood. Also known as "Asuras", they play an important role in many stories from the Hindu mythology*. Wonder where Jeff got the word. *In the myths, Rakshasas and Rakshasis (female) are demons with special powers who go around causing trouble for the humans and saints ("sanyasis").The words originate in Sanskrit.

What's FTW ? (Google says it stands for "For The Windows" ) & btw, are you the same person who was once Trenton the Slith?
