Fyoras remind me of Charmander, which I use as my starting pokemon in most VBA games.

So much so, that I usually name my fyoras "Charmy". 049.gif
  2. I've never tried to purchase stuff online before, but booking a movie/railway ticket is relatively simpler, once I complete the one-time authentication to prove that I really am that guy who claims to be me 122.gif

I had my eye on a nice T-shirt in inkfruit.com, but they are asking for Paisapal payments. Hmm.

  3. I had used Kaspersky on my PC. It made everything so slow (to be fair, I only had 256MB of RAM), that I uninstall-ed it and decided not to use antiviruses.

That was around four years ago. All executables on my PC are now either corrupt or infected, to the extent that I wasn't even able to re-install Windows XP until after I boot-disked from Linux and went on a massive deleting spree. frown

What, really ? We were taught that binary is low level, assembly is middle level and C/C++ (and all the rest of it) are high level. grin

I guess the term 'high level' was just loosely used to mean that they are as similar as is possible to a language which humans communicate in.
  5. What language were you thinking of learning ?

I'm no expert, but I think its good to start with 'BASIC'. Its usage of simple English words to perform elementary operations makes it quite beginner-friendly.

Then move onto C/C++. Once you know how a programming language works, you should have less trouble understanding the flow of control of a new one. After all, they are just different ways of instructing a computer.

  6. Well, I dunno. Dolphins are so cute, I'm not sure if I can bring myself to actually eat them.

  7. In the Windows version of A1 and A2, using the arrow keys moves your party in the directions perpendicular to the cardinal directions N, E, W and S unlike that of the later games.

This can be irritating as most pathways and doors are located along these directions and you have to either mouse your way through or use the numpad. But neither of them is as comfortable as using the arrow keys. And many laptops / some keyboards don't have numpads.

I've made a tiny little subprogram which maps the Numpad keys 3,7,9 and 1 into the corresponding arrow keys Right, Left, Up and Down. With it the player can move just as in the later Avernum games from BoA onwards.

That reminds me of what I've always wondered about since I learn that Jeff just wrote a game (Exile) and when it turned out to be a success, he just quit grad school and turned game making into his profession - just like that, and all by himself. He's a real genius and I regard him as my Guru.

Where and how did he learn to both design and program games ? I'm a game-making enthusiast and I dream of emulating Jeff, but if I just quit college and declare myself to be an indie developer, I wouldn't get very far. So how did Jeff do it ? He didn't go to any game development course, did he ? Did he just read books on the subject of computer game design?
